Living now 10 years in Indonesia, I can state, it was the best decision in my life. Meanwhile married with an Indonesian woman. Cost of life are minor, in comparison to Europe. You can build a house for 10.000 Euros, a meal for 0,80 Euros, self cooking even cheaper. Health insurance for 3 Euros. No car, no other useless costs. Nice and friendly people, best food. And a paradise for kids. Highest quality of life!

Hi Christopher, I'd also like to suggest a future video which explores how you make human connections and friendships on your slow travel journey. I'm sure it can get very lonely just in your own company travelling between countries, how do you overcome that? Do you seek out chats with locals, tourists, ex-pats who live out in the places you visit for a chat and night out? I ask as you seem a confident guy but we only see you in your videos and I'm sure in between filming you are engaging with people and meeting for coffees etc.. Cheers and thanks for your great content!

Aloha, a fellow retired Kama'aina. I just added up our daily cost of traveling for the last four months (Bali/Lombok, Cambodia, Malaysia). Excluding airfare, the lodging we (my wife and I) are spending less than $20/day We tend to go one step up in lodging, usually one that includes breakfast. ($25-45/night). So surprised by how inexpensive S.E. Asia is. Day after tomorrow, off to Chaing Mei. Living da life, keep up the great work

you can spend less than $1500 a month and live comfortably in Bali with all amenities included (lodging, wifi, mobile data, motor bike rent + gas, 3 meals a day) $6 a meal is on the higher rate for restaurants, if you are adventurous and would eat out at warung (local eatery) it will cost you $2 max and you can still eat delicious local food.

Another excellent video! Thank you! You are tremendously helping me with my anxiety in giving everything up in America and moving lock, stock and barrel to Southeast Asia. What you previously said has stuck with me. Something to the effect of “I no longer have anything to offer the USA and the USA no longer has anything to offer me.“ I currently feel the same way. The food costs here are insane. Keeping it under $20 a day is practically impossible. It’s a full-time job, trying to eat, clean, healthy, unprocessed food.

Video request/idea: I spent most my life in Military City USA, and have many military friends. The consensus among these friends, who are "preparedness-minded," is that folks will be far better off in their home countries in a SHTF scenario. Their main point is that foreigners would be fed to the wolves since we are always outsiders in other countries. I see their point, but don't necessarily think it's that black and white. Would be very curious, given your career background and overlay of your financial market/AI knowledge (since financial or technology problems are primary doomsday predictions), what your thoughts are on this matter. Thanks for the videos.

Your content is always first rate, my friend! A question that is as important as it is impossible to answer without a crystal ball, but curious as to your thoughts: How likely is it that these places you're at will continue to be very affordable? Will a wave of some combination of inflation and devaluation of the USD just come along and wash my dream of a cheap retirement abroad out into that beautiful ocean you're walking along? lol. On a side note, it's super interesting and informative that you mention the high season pricing for accommodations. I was under the impression (thankfully mistakenly) that prices would probably double then. Maybe the main issue would just be actually finding something when things fill up. Do you try to anticipate that and book in advance or just go with the flow? TIA
