Miss Anglophilia

Күн бұрын

My favourite time of the year has begun. Spring is slowly fading and the days are getting longer, sunnier and warmer. My cottage garden is in full bloom, especially my old apple tree and my tulips. Join me on a relaxing tour of my garden, help me make a salad and soup with my first produce this year. Watch till the end to see WHO VISITED ME. :-)
Lunch: Greek-style salad
Dinner: Nettle and sorrel soup
Please visit my blog www.missangloph... for more inspiration connected to my "favourite island"!
FAQ:
Where are you from?
- I am from Bavaria, but I love Britain!! :-)
Why Miss Anglophilia?
- At the age of ten, I had my first encounter with the English language at school. My teacher never tired of telling us inspirational stories about culture “on the island”. And that was it - I fell in love with it all! So Miss Anglophilia is me and it has been for many years.
Is this just about England?
- As for me, it all started with England which we were taught a lot about at school. I was lucky enough to live in England for a little while during my university years. There, I got to know many lovely people - not only English, but also Scottish, Welsh and Irish. So for me, “anglophilia” doesn’t stop at the English borders.
Why do you make videos about your garden?
- Well, I'm far from being a professional gardener, but just like many Britons I'm also fond of watching things grow in my garden. Over time I have changed some corners of my garden to give them a slightly British feel. In my series "My Cottage Garden in..." you can follow me through the garden year. I hope you enjoy seeing things change with the seasons. For me the garden is first and foremost a place to relax. With my videos I try to give you an opportunity to share in that experience with me. :-)

I wish I had such a passion for gardening and growing stuff. It is a lot of hard work to have a lovely garden to look at, such as yours! 😊 I do like nettle tea, but today I actually weeded a LOT of nettles and tossed them onto the compost. Never thought of making soup out of it 😄

Idyllic, Eva. Those are very fancy bachelor's buttons(?). My daughter-in-law is letting some nettles grow for her teas and soups.I should give her your recipe. I'm keeping a couple in my wildflower meadow this year - I noticed they were there today so I will leave them for the butterflies. It was a success last year so I will re-seed again this Sunday. Your food looks delicious and the garden (love your water feature!) delightful. A hedgehog too: perfect!

I think that I have become more British since I left England 33 years ago :) Though I am originally from England though, I don't think that I have ever had nettle soup before!! Your garden is coming along very nicely! Oh wow, look at that, the flag of St. Andrew in the sky 😁 That salad that you made really did look delicious 🥗🥔 Even though I haven't seen nettles in many years here in New York, I think that I would still have a hard time eating them. I always associate them with an unpleasant feeling so I couldn't possibly put them in my mouth, lol. We also don't have Hedgehogs here in America either 🦔😁

Hi Richard, thank you! :) Yes, I know, I've had several unpleasant encounters with nettles in my garden and also before, of course, even as a child, haha! Hello, so nice to hear from you again! You are right, I don't live in nor near Munich but in a more rural area. :) Okay, I'll try to describe it for you: the soup was rather creamy and very pleasant. A bit like spinach and herbs, a tiny bit peppery, but very nice. :)
