FYI, I'm black and I've dated a couple of white girls. None of them realized that their parents were racist until they brought me home. I found this one out the hard way about my mother. Couldn't put my finger on why she absolutely hated my ex who was mexican (he was very dark skin), she wouldn't tell me until I flat out asked if it was because of his skin colour and the look on her face told me everything I knew I needed to know. My sister brought home a light skin Japanese man, and she absolutely loved him, so I realised my ex was just "too dark" for her standards. One of the very man reasons I stopped speaking to her.

Glad the story SEEMS to be heading for a happy ending but one big red flag is OP saying he is GOING to do this and GOING to do that about is relationship with his mom ("I PLAN on returning to NC after the phone call;" I am GOING to stop attending" family events). Maybe I should defer to his therapist's endorsement of this "Civil NC" but I believe you should never base a relationship on what someone is GOING to do, you have to base it on what they have a track record of actually DOING. IMHO, the wife needs to see like a year of OP successfully being NC with mom to move forward. Otherwise, he hasn't CUT the umbilical cord like he says, he has just squeezed it off and the toxicity has an opportunity to start flowing again. Easy to see if the issue were drugs or drinking or excessive gaming, or checking girls on Tinder, for example. A wife would be stupid to try to move ahead if OP said, "I have cut down and am GOING TO quit drugs, drinking, gaming, thirsting, etc." Nah. You show a history of HAVING STOPPED for like a year before even considering resuming a relationship.

Story #1 So, the TOTAL stranger OP hooked up with through a dating app robbed her. What is that phrase I keep hearing? "Shocked Pikachu Face"? I was raised by older people, and my views are coloured by that upbringing, so when I hear about all these On-Line dating services, my mind IMMEDIATELY goes to the model established in my mind harkening back to the decades before computers. Many years ago, before computers and the Internet they had what were called Dating services, Matrimonial agencies, and "Lonely Hearts Clubs" [No, it Wasn't just a silly Beatles song lyric, it was an actual thing]. These services were never very well thought of. Although representing themselves as devoted to bringing hearts together and giving love a helping hand, they were the last resort of the desperate in a world where not being married was considered abnormal and borderline scandalous. There were of course the shy and the socially awkward trying to make romantic connections, but there were also the Cheating spouses seeking a hook-up, Con artists and thieves looking for a mark, Broke and Indolent men and women looking for a Sugar Daddy/Mama, or a seat on the gravy train, Homosexuals looking for a disguise [This in a time where homosexuality was still a crime in many jurisdictions, The world HAS changed], Many of the agencies were fronts for prostitution, or citizenship scams or worse. In general, there was so much baggage attached to the whole operation that they had a bad reputation, and people resorting to one were looked down on as pathetic losers. These days when i read about the relationship nightmares that seem to come out of the Internet equivalent, I wonder if there REALLY has been any change, or if these operations are STILL worthy of the reputation their paper, Brick, and Mortar ancestors established. Of course these days, the dating scene is so hazardous, ANYONE offering a "Safe" alternative will attract followers. Personally I see NOTHING safe about hooking up with a Net-Stranger. At least the old services, the legit ones, made a pretense at screening applicants.
@Resilient_Sage882 жыл бұрын
Consenting to hook up with someone is not consenting to be robbed. A lot of the time hook-ups go fine. It's a personality defect of the person who did something crappy, not the fact that two fully grown humans decided to do the horizontal monster mash.

@@Resilient_Sage88 When one engages in high risk behaviour, one should not be surprised that it comes back to bite you. Even in relationships that start after long acquaintance can go terribly wrong, see the Cheating Reddits for confirmation of that, But there are risks, then there are unnecessary risks. If someone you've known for years can betray you, how much MORE risk is there in opening your home and your self up to a TOTAL STRANGER? She brought home a respectable seeming man and got robbed of $1200 in perfumes. What if it were jewellery? Personal or banking documents? and those are just the MATERIAL risks. But then, these operations have been happening since the Victorian era, so it's unlikely people are suddenly going to wake up to the risks and stop, BUT they should ALWAYS be aware that the risks are there, and like the Idiot who cripples themselves, or worse trying to do a stunt for TikTok, I have no sympathy for people who are effectively victims of their own inadvisable conduct.

@@Voodoomaria Bruh you are victim blaming. Your long-winded diatribe is just word salad for 'Hook-up culture bad' nobody goes into a person to person interaction thinking "Oh yeah this person is gonna betray/Rob me." Get real dude.

I grew up in the 80's and 90's raised by late-baby boomer parents with a lot of influence from my grandparents on both sides. My observations are much the same as yours. I remember the "personal ads" in the local newspaper, and to most people, they were the butt of jokes because they were known to be shady dealings and a good way to get yourself into some trouble. Dating apps are no different than the things you mentioned. Just a modern paint job on the same old concept- same sh!t, different era. I firmly believe that if we'd had the technology back then, we'd be seeing the exact same results. You're right that they're no good. They're predominately about having casual sex with total strangers which, while I don't have a moral problem with it, I do take offense on a pragmatic level. The number of problems such indulgences invite into one's life is long. Unwanted pregnancy, disease, violence, theft, stalkers, child support, jilted lovers, angry partners, jealousy and assorted flavors of psychological and emotional damage. I can't fathom why anyone would want to incur so much risk just for an orgasm. Then there's the risk of death on top of it all. Murderous psychos gravitate towards whatever provides them easy access to victims. Meeting randos on a dating app is very good way to end up on the local news after some poor hiker and his dog find your chopped-up remains in a state park some years later. Furthermore, I think that the culture these apps have helped create has been absolutely terrible for male/female relations, and for people's views on romantic relationships. The bad experiences people have through these apps are leaving them bitter and disillusioned with the opposite sex, and I don't like what I see it fueling. But it's not shocking when one considers the sort of individuals dating apps are most likely to attract- people who are impulsive, reckless, irresponsible, desperate, shallow, judgment-impaired, oversexed, disloyal/unfaithful or have less-than-good intentions. Frankly, I consider the use of the apps to be high-risk, self-destructive behavior simply because of the things I've laid out above. There are some people who are looking for genuine, committed relationship, but I tell them that it's like looking for a spouse in a brothel in the bad part of town in the middle of the night. Even when I was single, I wouldn't use dating apps. I was never so unhappy with my own company that I felt I should wade into the toxic cesspit that is online dating.

@@AngryReptileKeeper Chuckling to myself, Finally, someone who types as much as I do. I think we can both sum it up by the old carnival barker's call; "Ya Pays your money, Ya takes yer chances" Not a chance i would ever consider taking, I have to much dignity and self respect.

Low effort dates attract low value men? That's laughable. Why should a man ever wine and dine you when all it takes is a few coffees and walks for you to invite a stranger into your home and lay on your back?

Story 2: The Lady hit the wall and got divorced and now she’s shocked people are stealing from her and only get sex and leave. That wall when you hit it is hard that’s why you know you stay with the person who loved you and accepted you as you were falling apart. You deserve your fate
