Amazing collection, serious goals right there! I love what you said about Breakfast Club, it's a great observation made. How mainstream movies in the Criterion Collection are a good thing. I was a little surprised to see the recent release of The Princess Bride, but it's just like you said, if nothing else it can introduce movie lovers to the collection and then from there they can immerse themselves in countless classics.

Absolutely. People were up in arms about Bull Durham, and I really didn't unstandard the elitist attitude. I really do believe anything that gets folks interested in the collection is a bonus. They can chip away at the titles and eventually, they'll find the black hole the rest of us have fallen through. 😂😂😂 I think introducing mainstream titles can just show what it means for films to get the Criterion treatment and why it's such a big deal. Thanks for watching!! 😀👋✌️

Gavin The Collector ah, well I've been collecting for a long time and July is my birthday month. It's also one of the 50% off Barnes & Noble Criterion sales so I get plenty of gift cards to help offset the expense. I'm glad you enjoyed the video and thank you so much for watching. 😀👍👍

I bought my first Criterion DVD in 1999 (the first DVD edition of "The Red Shoes"). I haven't collected a lot of them recently, not really having the money for them, but I do have a lot of early DVD's with "The Criterion Collection" spelled out on top of the cover and on the spine. Don't have a lot of the "C" stuff yet and only two blu-rays. I definitely recommend any Powell-Pressburger films, of which there are several on Criterion. I see you have a few already. I find their films deeply profound and moving and Powell is an incredible visual stylist.

Glad you got some like it hot, I'm glad classic movies like the breakfast club are in the criterion collection so more people know about these amazing films, here's my recommendations- Le Samourai El Sur Y tu mama tambien The ice storm* don't remember if you showed this one lol.

Lupita thanks so much for watching the collection videos. I'm with you- anything that gets more people interested in the collection works for me. I think the more they find out how many wonderful films are available, they'll be more open to expanding their viewing. I worry that so many miss out because they're reluctant to watch subtitles but I keep telling them that it's no big deal once you do it a few times. Thank you so much for the suggestions- I've definitely added them to the July list. Yes, I do have Ice Storm but not the others. Hope all is well with you. 😀👍👍

Hi, Steph: Lots of my favorites in this collection, but SO many I've been wanting to watch again for years and just can't find them: Valley of the Dolls and Mildred Pierce being too of them. There are also several you spoke about before that I keep looking for. The great thing about watching your channel (one of the great things) is that so many of the titles stick in my head, so if I see the on Prime or Netflix, I know to watch. Still looking for I, Daniel Blake. I guess one of these days I'll see it. I do see that Some Like It Hot as well as His Girl Friday are both on Prime, so I'll catch then both soon. I saw the first one for sure, but SO many years ago. I remember nothing, The Graduate is one of my all-time fave films. Can't even count how many times I've seen it. I love the scene when he is first in the hotel room with Mrs. Robinson and goes to hang up her coat. He's standing by the closet and says, "Wood or wire … they have both." In the late 90s, I was on a train from France to Italy, and Mel Brooks & Anne Bancroft were in the same car. Later, being alone with them in the club car, the inner me looked at her and said that line. The outer me behaved normally. :) Asphalt Jungle is another film I really want to see, and I'm so embarrassed to admit I never saw Rosemary's Baby. I really love Blue Is The Warmest Color. I have a screener copy here and I'll have to watch again or if it's still on Netflix. Funny, it didn't seem as long as it is. I just really liked it. Well, that's enough rambling for one comment, you think? :) Hope you reach 2K soon! You're the BEST!
@MovieChatter01

NipoteZia 😂😂😂I always enjoy your rambling because you're one of my few friends that I can actually talk movies with. Big yes to Blue Is The Warmest Color. So moving and definitely didn't feel like the run time, even with all the reading. I really think you'd like Weekend. It's another that pulls at the heart strings. I wish these came with digital for people who stream but I guess they don't have that capability. Plus, they have their own streaming channel now so I guess that would kill their platform. I also enjoy The Graduate- so many quotable lines. Honestly, the last time I watched Rosemary's Baby, I felt like it lost a step for me. Mia Farrow is amazing in it but the story just didn't pull me in like it had in the past. Who knows. 🤷🏼‍♀️🤷🏼‍♀️ Thank you so much for being here from the start. You have no idea how much I truly appreciate you. You're the best. 😀❤️❤️👍👍

Again nicely done Stephanie 👍 So many movies that I still need to discover, it’s also a little harder to get Criterion’s here in the UK as not all of them have been released. Loads are available for sure but I think the demand for them here in the UK is not as high as it is in the states.

dave f smith thank you and thanks so much for watching. I appreciate the feedback on Persona- I was beginning to think I was losing it. 😂😂😂 Actually, I either read in the booklet or watched an interview where it was revealed Bergman did a lot of work on the project while on morphine. That is something they've accredited to the end product being so abstract and open for individual interpretation. Have you heard or read that?? Thanks so much for watching and commenting. I always enjoy you. 😀👍👍

Music Is A Rainbow well hello there, my friend. Thanks for checking out the collection video. Yes, the channel is doing the slow, steady KZbin crawl- you know. 😂😂 How many movies... Hmm, I'd say between 2500 and 3000 as of this video. I have seen Maiden Heist- super funny and very underrated. It definitely deserved a theatrical release. The films I showed in this particular collection tend to be a lot of foreign language and older films that impacted modern cinema in some way. Lisette tells me when I do these, she writes a list so she remembers what to look for. 😂😂😂 Thanks again for stopping by and checking out the video. Did you like my creative product placement??? I need a sponsor!! 😂😂😀👋👋✌️

You should pick up Blow Up on Criterion too, no film better encapsulates the feel of London in the swinging 60's quite like Antonioni's masterpiece. Oh, & Rififi too, if you like heist films then there's none better. I could make recommendations all night but I'll shut up now. 😂😂 Enjoy.

My personal theory behind Persona is that the entire movie is inside Anna’s head (including the avant garde opening) as a way of coping with her turmoil. But I’d like to know your thoughts on the movie and how you interpreted it.

Just watched Badlands again this afternoon. Truly a awesome film way ahead of it's time! The Big Chill I got, and watched some twenty years later - and was let down. It seemed awfully dated and irrelevant to me now. Sold it shortly after. Shampoo as well, and am a big Hal Ashby fan at that. Just seemed lost and empty to me now. Now True Stories on the other hand I didn't get when it first came out, and I'm a big Talking Heads fan. Had the DVD for a bit, and was surprised when Criterion released it. So getting that version, I don't know what happened, but I finally GOT IT! David Byrne was WAY ahead of his time, and the movie suddenly made sense! It's quirky still, but fits our time now perfectly IMHO. Looking forward to see what you think of it Stef! :-)

DungeonStudio I hear you with the movies that seemed so great way back when. There are some titles that I bump up from DVD to Blu-ray because I loved them but when I revisit them, they just don't hold up. Then there's movies like Halloween and Jaws from the 70's that never lose that wow factor. One in the Criterion that I loved growing up was the original The Blob and when I watched it again, I thought, meh. 🤷🏼‍♀️🤷🏼‍♀️ But I kept it for now. I guess for the nostalgia. I'll definitely do a mini review after checking out True Stories. Thanks so much for watching and I always enjoy your comments. 😀👍
