"if you don't have curly or wavy hair naturally... devacurl will not make your hair curly" is honestly a statement i need to hear RN. i learned recently that i probably have wavy hair, and can get and keep waves with curly girl methods, and yet i keep thinking "but are they real though? am i just making my hair wavy and it's fake but staying around because of this stuff?" but like... it's probably not the case at all. it's probably just... wavy, and finally has the moisture + lack of BRUSHING THE HECK OUT OF IT that it needs.

I felt the same at the beginning of my wavy/curly hair journey. But that was all because I thought I had bad behaving straight hair, coming from a straight haired family that taught me to brush and brush again when my hair misbehaved. What obviously made the problem worse... Now I know that wavy is a curltype and not a bad sort of straight hair. And since I treat my hair as curly my hair thanked me by becoming even curlier.

I feel the exact same way, I feel like if everyone did my hair routine they could get the 2c/3a hair type I end up with. But then I realized that’s also not the case because my hair closest to my face is very loose waves and almost straight. I know, it’s ugly and doesn’t match the rest of my 2c hair but no matter what I do I just can’t seem to get it wavy! I scrunch and apply a lot of product but it ends up straightening a few minutes later naturally.

My hair right now looks exactly how your hair looked before. My hair is color and heat damaged and I’m starting to treat my hair a lot better. I had tight ringlet curls when I was a little kid, then it became wavy/straight, and now it’s a lot wavier. My mom has insanely curly hair and I’m just hoping and praying that if I start following the curly girl method and I lay off of the heat and dye, my hair will eventually become curly. Fingers crossed lol

My hair used to be straight, but it has started to wave/curl but my mom and sister, who both have stick straight hair, are convinced it is straight with a little bit of wave. We just got into an argument because they refuse to let me try different products, because it's supposedly a waste of money, and I'm trying to act like my friend who has had really curly hair since birth. They say I don't do my research and ya de ya de yada. My hair looks like your before pictures and it's curling more. They are so infuriating though!!

I started the curly girl method about 2 months ago and my hair is in that weird phase where it’s curly/wavy when wet, but the curls then fall out when it dries and it becomes frizzy. I used to have curls like yours when I was a baby and I’m hoping it goes back like that. Your videos are really helping me!! ❤️

My mom got the sample size set (still costs). The "no-poo" made my hair so greasy. It could just be that I have fine hair, or that I have low porosity hair (some products just sit on my hair rather than soaking it up). Or maybe it's just not used to it, I dunno.

Paulina Beauty - If you have been dying and/or using hot tools a lot, that's why it's straight on the lower end (damaged area) and curly at the roots (new growth you've been pampering). Just so you know not to give up! The straight ends can be "retrained" to remember the curl pattern, but you should keep working at it and trimming it off little by little as it will never actually be as healthy as your virgin growth! You might know all this already, but if not ...! Hang in there (from another life-long CG 😀👍🏻)

I have curly hair, kind of like yours, but I don't really know how to style it. When I get out of the shower, the more it dries, the less curly it gets and it gets kind of frizzy. I've been using the "curly girl method" for over a year now and haven't seen any major results. I'm not really sure what else to do.

My hair has always been really curly but I didn't embrace it until college. I never went through a phase of straightening my hair often because it would take a looooong time but I did secretly wish my hair was straight. I'm not sure what to do as far as a haircut goes. I've had my hair both long and short but never really had a style. It's kind of just there lol Do you ever do different hairstyles (updos, half up, etc) or do you primarily leave your hair down?

Cheryl you are probably discovering because you realized at 40 that you've hit the "maintenance mode" and if you mess with it , it'd be a solid decade until you'd grow 5 inch on a bare scalp. I really don't understand why y'all are trying to force hair to behave in a way they were never intended to. Curls are god given and natural .

Hello! I've been straightening my hair for over 15 years. Never liked the hard/ wet look of gel and mousse. Straight was in when I was growing up. For various reasons I'm now wearing it wavy (and growing it out) thank good for KZbin and cream products! I like your candid style and your " before" waves are kinda where I'm at now. I only started about 2 months ago looking at your waves now gives me something to look forward to. I hear it can take up to a year to see your true curl pattern. Btw I used to braid mine too it looked nice but anything's better than straightening.

I have like a tight 2b ish type wave. It doesn't form those spirals until it gets down to my shoulders. But the thing is if I don't do something to "activate" the waves, they really don't appear. My hair just has these somewhat thick body waves on it's own, As it gets really long, it turns back into those 2 dimensional S-type waves. Anyone else's hair like this?

Call Me Swivel Hips the length is probably weighing it down, if you’re willing to choose curly over length you could cut it a bit shorter, or get layers, which helps bring out curls more!
@HM-xe3mq
@HM-xe3mq 6 жыл бұрын
I have similar. The back of my hair is like a 2c wave. But the front is more 3a because ringlets are starting to form. 4 months into the CG method and i'm already seeing the slightest difference. I recommend you just follow the CG method (curly girl method) and avoid the bad ingredients. Getting short layers might help
@callmeswivelhips8229
@callmeswivelhips8229 6 жыл бұрын
Oh I wash my hair with nothing but water. Though I have been thinking about green tea rinses and onion juice treatments. Maybe even rice water. I also do not like layers in my hair. I wish I had 2c hair, but I really don''t. I see the most definition on my current routine. I get definition all the way to my crown, so I know I've really maxed out for now. But my hair is still short. So I will see more spirals as it continues ot grow in over the next year. That's cool you're seeing results though. I hear the CG method really works when coming off a conventional routine!

A salon severely damaged my curly hair by over processing. I retrained my curls as you said by using products with no sulfates, silicones, or parabens as well as scrunching and diffusing. Add regular trims on top of that and it's getting better. Thank you for your video!

Snapshot Shawna - If your shampoo and conditioner contains sulfates and silicones, you're only damaging more new growth by continuing to use them just to "use them up"! Remember hair on average only grows 1/2 inch a month and only 1" a month for the truly lucky! Why continue to ruin your new hair for the sake of a product? Give it away to a straight haired friend instead and start repairing your already damaged hair and saving your new growth now!

But I have a daughter whose hair is exactly as you described yours growing up. Only brush it when it's wet after you've washed it. Try using some leave in conditioner and scrunch it and let it air dry.

I love you hair and the high lights in it at the ends. I started my curly hair journey since yesterday. I have colored hair brown on top with blond ends. I was my hair once, maybe twice a week. The day after that was the only day i would straighten it. So i have everything non devacurl (also read some bad reviews on it, but I guess it is not available here in NL) the only thing in my products is dimethiconol. It is in all besides my hair oil and mouse. I had no mouse good mousse in the house so I used gel and was quiet suprised about the result. It got really wavey and some small curls. Can’t wait to continue and see where it will be in half a year.

OMG! When i was younger, I had insane, big, doll-like curls that were everywhere! And all the old ladies always wanted to touch it ( you probably know what that feels like lol, ) and every time I visited my grandma she would brush it, DRY! And it hurt *so* bad, but everyone just thought I was overreacting, and that experience honestly made me really terrified of my grandma for so many years, and I was like only, six or seven years old back then. Then when I grew a bit older, I started needing to go to a hair salon, but I *hated* it! They would do the exact same thing my grandma did and I would just cry every time, it hurt so bad ( we also tried hiring a hairstylist to come on house visits, since I was scared of going to the salon, but she wasn’t any better. ) I’ve just been surrounded by people with straight hair, so no one knew how to take care of it properly, and I think that has honestly damaged my curls so much, since I’m 20 now and I only started getting to know curly hair-care this week. And now I’ve been watching all these videos of girls with the same type of hair as mine, saying that washing your hair a little ( if at all ) is actually how most curly gals take care of their locks. And now I find out about DevaCurl, and I am SO gonna try it! ( wow, so sorry for this book I just wrote lol, you don’t need to read it 😂 )

I used to have straight thick hair when I was a little kid until I was 8, then it became damaged and dry and just a frizzy mess. It wasn’t even curly, it was weird. And everyone would make fun of me n shit and I became so insecure so I started straightening my hair. And now I’m so fed up of it, your video really inspired me and I didn’t know so many curly gurls are suffering with my same problem. Respect to all my babies ❤️❤️

My hair now looks like your hair in your senior year! Your hair now is my goal 😍😍 Do you think diffusing is a must or really helpful when it comes to curl definition ? I typically air dry after putting in products but my roots lack volume and curl definition , my curls don't really form until a couple inches down from my scalp 😄

I do thinking diffusing helps quicken the curl memory process but it's not necessarily a "must" but that's just my suggestion (:

so the more you diffused, the more it brought out your curls? I've never used one but have wavy/curly (much curlier when it is shorter) and i'm curious if my curls will come out more. my hair now looks like your before, just some more curls. your hair is gorgeous btw!

I love your hair so much!! Your curls look so bouncy and pretty! I have a few curls at my roots that look similar to yours but the rest of my curls look really stretched out now. I would say some of my hair is 2c hair but the rest is mainly wavy and my roots are usually flat all the time. I was born with curly hair too but I started wearing my hair curly about 4 months ago now because I used to straighten it all the time and it was really damaged especially at the ends. I recently got a haircut specific for curly hair but I still don't know how to manage it exactly or style it. Any suggestions on what I should do?

That might be a reaction and it might be you only noticed your hair coming out (keeping in mind your supposed to loose like 100 hairs a day (or something like that))I myself loose what seems like a lot of hair when I shower (I don’t brush) but I only shower once or twice a week.

Cup Studios Yeah , I thought that May had been the case , or even me just adjusting to it , so I tried it for a month or so . But my hair honestly became noticeably thinner and it broke my heart . It really was a lot more than I had ever lost in a shower . I switched to Shea Moister’s curly stuff and I don’t lose as much . Everyone’s different I guess ! Thankfully , my head likes the cheaper stuff LOL.

This may sound odd but a lot of the ingredients in DevaCurl help moisturize & strengthen the natural protein in your hair. Your hair might be falling out because it has TOO MUCH protein, & using DevaCurl with its ingredients is working to strengthen the protein & moisturize even more which can lead to breakage.

Emi Pellegrino I was so excited to try devacurl. But then I saw a negative review on it. Devacurl doesn’t work on people with low porosity hair because their products are loaded with protein. I did some research and found out that the porosity of my hair is low and found out which products to use. So glad I figured this out before spending a lot of money on it

I'm so glad you said that if you don't have naturally curly if wavy hair devacurl won't work. Someone tried telling me that "anyone can use curly hair products to get curly hair, it's just styling your hair." It bothered me for a while and I went back to straightening my hair. I just started my journey back to curly hair. I was wondering, what would happen if you put regular curly hair products on someone with naturally straight hair?
@lydiagrace9676

I am not sure what would happen cause I've never tried because "curly hair products" are for curly hair. And I'm sure if someone did it would be pretty greasy and weighed down, and probably crunchy and just not cute ahah.

Hello, watching video makes me question a lot about my own hair btw I’m loving your curls!!! I can say that I went through the same thing with my hair. In high school my hair was wavy Ofcourse I would always put gel to keep my waves then as I grew older I started to dye my hair and not only that but I made the mistake of perming my hair curly and that was the end of my waves, they never came back and I also never tried but watching your video gives me hope of getting them back now what do you think I should do?

I've always had straight hair. Like straight hair (my hair wouldn't hold a curl with mousse and a tonne of hairspray straight). And I was rocking a pixie cut on and off for a few years (as in I would visit the hairdresser once a year when the hair got annoying). One time I was growing my pixie out I noticed I had an S-wave in my hair. Out of nowhere!!! So I grew my hair out and I had pretty much 2b waves. My hair was massively damaged (years and years of fashion colours with massive bleaching in between etc). I broke my leg, got a pixie cut again, because I was not able to keep my hair from going Hermione on me with my leg in a cast. And then I buzzed it about a year later (bucket list). Now it's 3 inches long (about 8cm) and it's a bit awkward... like it wants to curl but it's not quite happening XD I'm just trying to grow my hair out healthily and see how my wave does :P Btw your curls are beautiful!

Great video, Lydia! Did you chop your hair to get better curl formation? Since you wore your hair longer once. Or did your hair got curlier nonetheless? I ask this because my tailbone length hair has difficulty holding the curls and is now more stretched out spirals with curls only at the bottom part. I wonder if a haircut might tighten my curls?

Curls don’t always tighten with a chop. I have 3a hair and from personal experience, my hair does just the opposite. The longer it is the curlier it becomes. It all just depends on your curl type.

My hair is curly sometimes. I could never figure out what shampoo or methods I did to have my curls show consistently, so I just stopped trying. Along with heat and product damage, I did Massive damage by bleaching it and am now going to chop it down to a pixie. I want to have virgin hair and so I am going on a curly hair journey to see if I really do have curly hair or not.

My dad has straight hair and my mom had straight hair until she was 28 years old. She got curls when she got pregnant due to hormonal changes and when I was a kid I had really curly hair (probably a 3a/3b) but I let it grow until it was almost touching my butt. Because of all that weight my hair couldn't curl and over time my hair went from really curly to straight. Later in life I cut my hair and my hair got wavy and because the waves were irregular I straigthened my hair every day. Last year I bleached my hair to get ombre hair. My mom got new hair products and told me to try them because even though it was meant for curls,it was also meant for damaged hair (which I had) and I got beautiful waves. Now I'm starting my curls journey and after washing and finishing my "curls" my hair is in between a 2a and a 2b.

When I was younger my hair was straight just like my sisters, and eventually their hair turned really curly. When I got in 6th grade my hair started to change and it started to turn curly from the roots and wavy at the ends. After a while it began to curl a lot more, by then I discovered the hair straightener and I started to straighten my hair a lot. In 7th grade my hair started to just look wavy like your hair before, but In the summer the back of my head was super curly but the top was wavy. Then in 8th grade I would have some curls in my hair and some waves, but then I dyed it and it turned wavy and it was really damaged. Now I’m in 9th and I’m starting to take care of my hair a lot more and my roots are starting to turn curly again and some of the bits in my hair are starting to curl, and I’m using the Aussie curly hair products and it’s helping my hair a lot more and it’s giving it more curl definition. I’m just somewhat confused on what my hair is right now. Both my parents and my sisters have really curly hair and so does my entire family, so I have a feeling that my hair is curly but I’m just really confused and don’t know what to do. Any advice on how to treat my hair?

But then freshman year came around I’ve dyed my hair a lot since and now my hair isn’t the same. My fault. It’s more wavy/straight than it was wavy/curly. Is it possible for me to get my hair back to the way it was ? It was almost as curly as yours.
