I've been referring women to your videos to help spread the word about how our bodies work, FAM, etc. ❤ Also good to note, if a woman has this issue and her spotting continues even after trying to balance her cycles naturally, she may want to see her GYN. Aside from hormonal imbalance, spotting between menstruation can also be caused by STD's, vaginal infections or HPV related, pre-cancerous cervical changes.

I started taking this recently and it works instantly. On the fourth day of my period i was expecting it to be very very heavy but it was light. Instead of having my period for 7-8 days it was done in 5. That never happened before!

Vitex has literally been a lifesaver for me as an hormonal acne sufferer. I decided to begin detoxing from synthetic hormones (bcp) last September and I believe it was one of best decisions I've made other than becoming vegan 6+ years ago. Unfortunately after the hormones left my body, my face erupted into large and painful cysts. I'm a medium skin tone so I was left with brown pigmentation and scars. Let's also not forget the upsurge of sebum on my face! Ugh I was devastated! I decided to try vitex and did research about the hormonal benefits. After about 2 months I have a decrease in oil production, less breakouts, and my skin is beginning to heal. 😀

This is my first period from the 1st time using it’s been 3 weeks this period is light so I think it’s working cramps are still horrible so we will see how this go hopefully I get my ovulation back ❤

Thanks so much for sharing your experience, Victoria! I've only been charting for a cycle (not even a full one yet) but I've already learned so much, mostly about my own body. I always assumed I was perfectly alright, but I'm now thinking I might have a short luteal phase, so I'll be keeping a close eye on that in the upcoming months. I don't want to take action too soon, although some zinc and magnesium supplements might not hurt. I would be really interested in an update about your cycle, since it's been a few months! How are you doing now? Can you still feel the results of the vitex? :)

Wow! my jaw dropped when you said 14 to 15 day luteal phase! Do you know why some women spot or bleed when they first start taking it and what dose are you taking and does height and weight matter I would think that it would seem that is our hormones.. it’s me trying to find the right balance would be hard it always has been with any supplements or prescriptions

Great to hear that this was a good solution for you! Just wanted to throw out there that bioidentical progesterone is easily available via prescription if Vitex doesn't resolve a progesterone deficiency. It's chemically identical to what our bodies produce!

I’m confused about how to start taking Vitex. I have really irregular cycles that when they come are very heavy and can last anywhere from days to literally months. My period ended a week ago, but I’ve been lightly spotting, which is “normal” for me. So I’m wondering when is a good time to start taking the pills. I have the Gaia brand 1,000mg, the bottle says to take two pills daily. Should I start today while I’m spotting? Or wait til the bleeding stops and start? Also, I noticed in some articles I read, it said to take the pills for 25 days then stop 5 days out of the month if you dont get a cycle. Or take the pills until you get your cycle, stop while you’re bleeding, then take it after the bleeding stops. I’m very confused.

I'm 48 y.o. had what I thought was my last period in February. I spotted in March and April and then nothing. This month, October, I began spotting again. Vitex makes me nasty, uptight, just in a bad mood, but I broke open one capsule and took the tiniest amount with water and voila, full on period arrived. I guess it's not menopause yet after all. Probably my PCOS.

It could be a combo of all these things. You're supposed to stop taking Vitex during your period. And it could take a few cycles for it to even out. I had probably three cycles with spotting before it balanced out again.

Do you chart? Long cycles can be due to lots of things, including delayed ovulation or an underlying disease or imbalance. That would help paint the picture on what's going on! :) And ~35 days or so can be perfectly normal, so I guess it depends on what you mean by long.

Lauren yes I do chart! My last cycle was 38 days and my current cycle is 35 days, and I feel my period coming up. Something I noticed was that my luteal phase is longer than my follicular phase. It seems that I'm having my ovulation after exact 14 days. I really dont know what to do.

Awesome! If you don't mind my asking, what don't you like about the long cycles? A long luteal phase can be a really nice thing to have (you're infertile for longer). Mine are usually 13-15 days and I wouldn't want them any shorter. If you're not having lots of spotting or other symptoms that signal something is wrong, that maybe is just normal for you.

Of course! Definitely not necessarily true. A short luteal phase actually can make it hard to sustain a pregnancy, but there's nothing objectively wrong with a longer one! Lots of women find that desirable

Lindsey Charon I use to take the pill, I was taking it for 6 years. And I stop taking the pill a year ago. It took 8 months for me to get a regular period. And it lasted so long. It is nothing to panic about all the gyn is going to say is wait it out or they will put you back on a low dose of birth control. Don't freak out if your period is long, that is normal too for all that dirty blood that didn't come out in previous months will come when you finally get it. After that you will have regular periods

PCOS sucks. I feel for people with it. PCOS is technically a hormone imbalance. If your progesterone levels are LOW compared to your estrogen levels then yes Vitex should help. Now if you are the other way around, Estrogen LOW, compared to progesterone, then it will make it worse. If you decide to try it, ask your locale Health food store about the two types of concentrations of Vitex. Try the lower one of concentration first to see how you react to it. Take it the first day after your period, then stop taking it when your period begins and then start taking it again after your period ends. Add a Kelp supplement to your diet and absolutely start weaning yourself off of pastas, bread and sugars. Good luck.

No. You should stop for 5 to 7 days during your period. You should also only take it for up to 6 months, then Take a two month break. You should also take a kelp supplement while taking Vitex as it can be a little tough on the thyroid and adrenals.

I see your post was a long time ago so probably won’t help but.....I had the same issue until I switched to a much lesser concentrated type. Apparently there are two types of concentrations of it. The lesser of the two was great 👍🏼 No headache and it calmed the estrogen dominance down.
