Another amazing breakdown, thank you! I've always been confused about what the "dark" voice in this song was representing. I like your take on it. Certainly I realized it could be Slim Shady but I never thought of it representing his addiction. I definitely see how it could be both things. Relapse is my 3rd favorite Em album. It kills me that so many of his fans trash it because of the accents. They completely miss the brilliance of the storytelling, rhyme schemes and flows displayed throughout this album.

yeah it took me awhile to realize it was his addiction trying to talk him back into using and him fighting it! its a good album!! and yeah it's a shame. A lot of people didn't know where he was going with his music and this album and how unstructured it was didn't help that...but it definitely has some good tracks!! the story telling is next level...especially on this song and in stay wide awake

BTW, at the time, there were rumours that on Relapse, there will be a "Stan 2", of course, until MMLP2 "Bad Guy" is the official sequel to Stan, however the two hidden tracks (My Darling and Careful What You Wish For) on Relapse are the highlight of the double album, and combine the two, is very much like a "Stan 2", it quite an irony that Relapse is probably one of my least favourite album from Em, however it has this song which is one of my favourite song from Em, definitely an all time top 10 if not top 5 song!

In fact, I think in Bad Guy, Em took a page out of My Darling and makes the last verse in a similar style, so corresponding to the rumoured "Stan 2", although Em never admitted that the song My Darling has anything to do with Stan, but it is also story about alter ego. So, depending on how you take it, I personally think Em made the two songs on Relapse with much more depth than any other songs on the album, pure genius!

I love this song and you are so smart oh, I can tell you're not an alcoholic or drug addict, at your age I wasn't either, until I found out I had brain tumors at 25 and went completely blind after having 20/20 vision And they prescribed me Oxycontin 310 a month for 8 years and I wasn't an addict at first probably up till 6 years of it I wasn't because I didn't think about it all day that's what makes an addict 2, what I mean is they say you cross this imaginary line is when all you can think about is those pills what's was in my case I never really drank I hated alcohol I never did anything until I had three brain surgeries which you would think I had an excuse but not for 8 years I didn't in when I finally decided to stop I realized I couldn't because opiates around body addiction and I wouldn't wish that on my worst enemy so I understand Eminem and it sucks when you do it late in life I don't know if he did but I didn't do that until I was 36 so it sucks because my kids were grown and now I have a lot of years sober and I'm proud of myself but I don't even think about it anymore I just know that if I wasn't prescribed those pills I probably would have never been addicted because their body addiction like I'm not saying I never went out clubbing and shit I have but I never drank till I was ready to die and couldn't stop I only went out one night a year and have fun with my friends and that was it but when I got sick my whole life like fucking you ruined let me tell you it cost me a marriage it cost me a house I got a new one now but it took a long time to get it , but thank you for being so smart and knowledgeable about it knowledge is power if I knew when I was young nobody knew about those pills I don't even think the doctors did, and if they did I'm glad I'm suing them LOL but I've been sober for over 10 years so yep I understand that statement but in a way I don't because I don't even think about it I don't even think about it at all it's just my life is normal now and that's it it's like it was before I realized I was addicted to drugs at 36 that's all, but I do understand that some people do struggle with that so I am not putting anybody down don't take it that way please Mia oh, I actually thought you were so much older than what you are wow
