When I trained for a marathon, I would eat a giant 2/3 lb burger the night before my Saturday long run and it worked really well. One time I ate that, then woke up and did a 20 mile run without even eating breakfast before.

Mo Farah needs to be featured by ESPN on a piece or two. Eliud Kipchoge as well. Cool video. I've done 5 marathons, I'm currently getting ready for the Chicago Marathon next year. I wish I could eat a big meal like Mo and then go run after, he's got really good genetics. For me my pre-race meal consists of at 3:00 a.m. is 3-4 slices of pizza, 3 cups of coffee, 2 sugar free energy drinks, 2-3 G2 gatorades. I try to give myself a 4 hour window for the digestion that by 7:00 a.m. all the food I ate will be ready for energy. I know Pizza is not the healthiest or the easiest option on my stomach but that's what worked for me. When I'm on the road to do some of the Marathons in a hotel room with no kitchen I just order Pizza the night before. I can't binge eat the night before like a lot of runners can because I know I'll get hungry mid way through the race. Idk how they do it anyway and not get hungry. More power to them.

Well, that’s more or less what I eat. Toast with jam, coffee for breakfast, lunch is rice with fish and fruit, dinner could be spag bol, chicken and rice, etc. I think my diet’s quite nice but I could do with eating less red meat. I like running around 5k at low pace and I feel good, keep my weight down nicely. Mo seems like such a nice humble guy.

You realize you're judging the diet of one of the best distance runners of all time? Reminds me of those guys who were correcting Usain Bolt's strength training techniques in one video, really? Don't try to fix something that ain't broken... These guys know what they're doing, and I'm sure they have some kind of nutritional specialists behind them, along with physiotherapists etc to keep them on top of the game. Their bodies go through immense training and stress, and they need the right fuel to recover from the damage that's happening. And plant based diet just won't cover that, end of story.
@tedallison6112

Everyone human being is an experiment of one. General principles often apply across the board however training specificity dictates nutritional needs. There's no absolutes.Period.

@dennisz1799

@@stevenciervo7384Don't forget the importance of the protein shake as part of your daily diet. Running tends to destroy muscle tissue, and carbs are not going to rebuild it. Therefore, make it a point to have a protein shake within an hour of completing your long distance workouts. Grilled chicken is an excellent choice.
