This Q&A came from Ed Frawley's 2024 new online course "Train Your Dog to COME When Called." There are 57 Videos totaling over 4 hours content to watch. There is also written content in every segment of the course. This content would add up to a short book of material. It's our feeling that everyone learns differently, some learn by watching videos or live seminars, while others prefer to read written material. Our course content covers both methods.
The recall is the most important behavior our dogs must learn. The COME command is not a conditional behavior. This means when the training is finished, the dog doesn't get to choose whether or not it wants to obey. It learns that it must come every time or it will suffer serious consequences. This is the only command we approach in this manner.

In my opinion and experience...the straight sit is important for focus, and controlling drive and spontaneity, they are able to put and keep their focus on you, and helps them not be distracted and run after somthing....In a regular situation and others I imagine.
