Exceptional band and one of the Peaceville three (My Dying Bride, Paradise Lost and Anathema) who set a bit of a blueprint for a lot of doom bands who followed them, my own included.

Ahab are a really good funeral doom metal band. Their songs are always about the sea. Their first album is about Moby Dick. You can feel the heavy waves splashing against the ships, when you hear their slow heavy riffs. Awesome Atmosphere. I recommend the first song of that album for a taste. Ahab - Below the sun

my dying bride is much move an atmospheric band thats best experienced by listening to one of their albums from front to back to really sink into their world. if you would ever decide to check anything else out by this band, please make it the music video for feel the misery

I absolutely love My Dying Bride. This song is awesome. The organ sound of the keyboard is perfect for that type of song. As seomebody said elsewhere, if you want to listen to "modern" My Dying Bride, the song Feel the Misery would be a good pick. Then there is the old "hit" The Cry of Mankind, which is magnificent. Ah, if you've never listened to Paradise Lost, then you have a lot of work to do :-), because their career is so long, with many variations in style. Also, I second a comment written earlier, that if you decide to listen to other doom bands, Ahab would be a wonderful choice. They have 4 albums, each one a bit different from the previous one. On the first one, the song The Hunt is an absolute masterpiece to me (well, the whole album is, really, if you can get in the right mood).

Nice review. My Dying Bride is a depressingly good band, but not the first thing I would have recommended you. That said, if you want to challenge your sensors, go for Ulcerate - Drown Within. Intelligent and oh so brutal.
