What a gorgeous collection. Spotlight is a dangerous place for me lol. I went in yesterday to get a couple of invisible zips for my first Hazel dress (making it out of a salvos queen sheet), and had to walk past the clearance fabric. I ended up spending $87 on fabric and they are so pretty I have no idea what to use them for. Lol.

If there’s enough fabric, that beautiful vintage fabric with the big stylized flowers(around 7:45) would look amazing as a short quilted jacket, centering that big flower on the back

I'm enjoying looking through your fabric stash. I'm about 12 minutes in and you've just shown us the last of the mustard tones pieces, a seersucker tablecloth. I think this would make a fabulous skirt in the gathered waist style your favour. I do understand your reluctance to cut into some of your fabrics as I have fabric like that too! Ok, time to watch some more ...

I love that you reuse old fabric and give them a second life!! I am actually looking to buy vintage fabric online (prices are high, but thrift shops are quite far from my home and good things are meh, not so much). And the idea of using tablecloths or bedsheets, mind blown!! Hahah!! Dunno why I am so nervous at the thought of attempting sewing a project for myself. I actually did a dress for my daughter years ago, first and only clothing project ever and I recycled an old pillowcase and it turned out okish. I guess I'm intimated of making mistakes, especially on a larger scale and ''wasting'' fabric. I dunno. You're inspiring! Just going for it!

Oh man I love looking at fabric collections! mine is very heavy on the blues and greens - I do love the reds and yellows and oranges but most of them don't go with my skin tone. I can't even wear lilac because my skin basically looks lilac, so I am vicariously enjoying all those warm tones. If you live near an IKEA, here's a recommendation from someone who works there - IKEA As Is section. They have ex-display bed linen there, as well as discontinued items, for a discount. I bought three double/queen cotton lyocell blend dark turquoise flat sheets, and that's...a lot of fabric (off the top of my head 240x260 cm). I used something like half of one sheet to make a wearable toile of a vintage shirtdress, and I still have two and a half sheets left! So it's perfect if you want to make something like a really full skirted dress, or a pair of pants. I also made a dress out of an IKEA kids doona cover and wore it to the Christmas party, the staff from the Childrens' department recognised it immediately. But I have of course bought way too much bed linen from the IKEA As Is section. Oops. So I recognise the "shopping at your own workplace" problem! IKEA also has fabrics but they're sort of...thick, for the most part. Good for cushion covers or something like a structured pinafore, but nothing particularly drapey or fluid.

I had a similar experience when I went to the LA garment district where there are streets filled with stalls of fabric. I was kind of panicked when the fabric I was buying was just thrown on the ground to be measured out then cut. I didn't think about it in the beginning but they don't have cutting tables. So this is standard for the smaller shops. I was alarmed because it was 10 yd of sheer fabric I was really worried about getting snags LOL but definitely was paying for the experience 😂

I can’t wait to see what you’ll make out of some of your vintage fabrics. I also like how you color coordinated your fabrics. I just reorganized my sewing room and I think I’ll do the same with my fabrics. Thanks for the ideas! 🥰

Hello, it’s the first time for me to comment on your channel, I recently subscribed and enjoy your videos. I live in Kyoto. Nomura Taylor is the most famous fabric store in Kyoto. I’m so impressed you found such a beautiful retro fabrics there, I love them 😍 I usually buy fabrics at the different store in Kyoto, they sell only the last remaining 1 or 2 meters on the bolts in very inexpensive prices, and they carry similar ones that you showed us, and they were the ones that I was considering buying or not for a year!! You encouraged me to get them, and thank you very much for telling us other ways to find nice large fabrics. I also love flea market in Kyoto, too. I made mini napkins. Thank you very much for your beautiful ideas 💡

The best way to learn how to sew is to start simple. Take apart a t-shirt that fits you well and then use it as a template for making an identical shirt. Dismantling clothes is the best way to understand how they go together. Good luck, always keep it simple. There’ll be plenty of time to try more advanced pieces.

The instructions of sewing patterns are unnecessarily difficult sometimes I think. You can find some ‘sew-through’ videos on KZbin that show all the steps which I find really helpful 😊 Also, the more patterns you make, the easier it gets/the more you’ll understand how they work!
