I've been considering bike and backpacking in the ourdoors and it's been difficult to wade through the numerous videos and articles that make it seem like you need an entire kitchen and the mixer to be outdoors but it feels really encouraging to have a straightforward video that describes exactly what I could need, especially from a veteran, so I wanted to say thank you and I'm very grateful for your content. It always brings me a smile to watch your videos and your positive attitude :)

Butter knives are good for opening walnuts. And for not accidentally cutting yourself when you're tired - safe knives. They don't cut into fabrics when storing or traveling with them either. I used mine for peanut butter near the bottom of the jar just last night. They're the best.

The inReach is a really nice bit of reassurance. My friends bought me one after I started doing a lot of solo backpacking and mountaineering, and it's a great non-intrusive way to know I can get help if I need it. It's also been fun for friends and family! I often turn on the tracking, so they can see my progress live, and it's so funny to talk to them after the trip! They wind up seeing all the points where I get lost because the trail disappears, or I have to double back because my cross country navigation just brought me to an impasse.

Have you ever tried Squirt chain lube? It is killer in dry conditions because it hardly picks up any dust and lasts a long time. It is somewhat more expensive than normal lubes, but it's good stuff. Very unique because it is wax mixed with water with no oils. Only problem is you need to let it dry before you ride or it will pick up everything.

Hi, Ryan. I'm getting into bikepacking so this was cool to watch for ideas and reference. I have a small company that makes outdoor gear and we make what I feel is arguably the best utensil ever made (it took us two years so it'd better be good). It's the "humangear GoBites Duo". It's a fork and spoon that nest together and are quite compact. But you can also connect the tools end-to-end to make one, long utensil. I think it would be as long as your butter knife, and lighter too. It's made from indestructible hi-temp nylon, so strong we warranty it for life (yes, let's keep plastic out of the landfills). If you have any interest in checking one out please let me know. Oh, and while we're not a Boulder company (we're in San Francisco) I used to live in Boulder - I miss the Flatirons and McGuckins! Safe travels.

Nice Pee Wee reference. I love you even more! Are your Kleen Canteens double walled or single? Single walls can be used to boil water in a campfire. Double walled would explode. Sorry, boiling would be backup to using iodine. Also, if the water contains chemical contaminants, you can use charcoal from your fire to pull chems from the water. There are life straws that can handle that job.

Ryan.. GoPro has many troubles.. I got the Hero7 black. the GPS Gauges, that tell you location on a map, speed, course, climb, distance on the video footage are 99% useless and inaccurate. I was riding my bike, and the gauge said i was traveling 295mph... and i rode a 7 mile Loop course and the map line showed i went straight. If you use anything like voice command, GPS, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth etc... you only get about 10-15 minutes of use on a full charge.. I turn every thing off (all the special features) because i want to film long trips. Go with this.... I wish i had waited to get the: insta360 OneX or the upgraded, higher quality insta360 OneR camera. there are great comparisons of the OneX vs the OneR. Big difference in quality. It has 360* view and when you hold it out on the long selfie stick, the stick is invisible... (you cannot see it) Looks like a drone is filming you. The older ones are 4K and the newer are 5k video. Incredible. They are getting great reviews..
