Who cares what it cost? This is your bike. From top to bottom, it is exactly the way you wanted it to be. It is beautiful. As someone who transitioned from custom road biking to motorcycles, I found this series fantastic. I can't wait to see this beautiful beast in more of your videos.

That is correct, I also buy cheaper "projects" that end up being more expensive in the end but at least there are new parts on it and made for my taste 🙂

Well if "the way you wanted it" is stock with some fairings it's kinda waste of time. Good YT material, but waste of time.

Tip for drilling holes to a certain depth: if you don’t have a drill with a depth gauge, just wrap a piece of sticky tape around the bit, and stop drilling when you reach it.

The fact that you worked on it from the state it was in until now makes it that much more special than just buying it already finished. By now Im sure you know that bike inside and out which will make it that much easier for you to troubleshoot should you run into any problems later on down the road. Keep the videos coming. We are here to watch, and I love bikes so it is entertaining.

I think the Bitubo suspension is the bike's cynosure. You never see Bitubo in the wild here and its such a process to install *properly*. So sweet to see those particular doodads on top of the forks.

If you are worried about drilling to far in the radiator measure the length of the bolt then tape the drill bit so when you insert the drill bit and the tape starts or about to enter the hole stop drilling.

Definitely worth it considering the end result, and you have the “satisfaction of the accomplishment” factor also. I’m in a similar situation regarding the motor” blowing up at any second”: I bought a second hand R1 where the previous owner installed 13:1 pistons re jetted the carbs ( it’s a 2000) full titanium race exhaust and then put 16,000 mile on it . I’ve beat it like a rented mule for another 5,000 miles and so far so good. But for $2,700 I can’t complain. Excellent video thanks. I’m sure you already know that the front brake is your best friend, but I’m shocked at how many ( American) riders don’t know this. Stay safe !

I converted my old one from street to track, raced it for years and kept changing it. I would never try to change it back but having said that- race bikes are serviced pretty much every weekend. Unless a stress thing happens from being flogged or crashed it should be a sweet ride for many years.

I absolutely think that this whole process was worth it. I can tell you I have bought bikes just to fix and sell, and also bought bikes to keep. Whatever the circumstances, the ones that I worked on the most, I felt a greater connection to and therefore felt more comfortable riding them. Your R1 looks great and I feel like you have a stronger connection to it because you know its ins and outs, you can't buy that and I hope you really enjoy it.

What a transformation! The blue works really well with your silver wheels. Having said that, I think the colour scheme on your dad's R1 is probably the best, not only on a Yamaha, but also on any bike 😍. If you want to minimise the gap under that tank nose cover, could you use some thin double-sided velcro? Re the horn, do you have a roadworthy test in SA, (similar to the MoT in the UK)? If so, I'd imagine a working horn would be necessary for a pass.

To each his own and that blues absolutely nothing I would pick, but I love watching this channel and I'm happy that you're happy with the result and FYI for the future, those tank covers leave a quarter of an inch all around the bottom of the tank. They do not cover the complete tank for some reason.

When it comes to those metal parts / belly pan, you are not missing the brackets. They bolt on the cat, but yours is missing. You can not run them with a straight pipe, but there are others that make custom pans for the straight pipe set ups The only thing to consider is, if you are shopping for them, make sure that it's for the stock fairing and not the race ones. They are cut differently

The R1 looks awesome, your videos rebuilding your R1 has inspired me to buy one also. I bought a 2015 Yamaha R1 in the blue and silver livery, it was also converted for track use but most of the OEM parts where available. It also has upgraded Ohlins suspension in the front and back so that was a big plus Only thing i have to do is register it. but for now it looks awesome next to my MT09SP 2023 Anyway, awesome bike you got there and i love the new fairings

Cracking job my friend, I would have definitely done it the same way, 8m not just saying that to kiss arse, but those racing parts that were already on it are worn in, where as if you had bought the parts to put on the $12k bike, you would have had to learn the set up, where as most of that work had already been done. If you add the cost of those parts and add to the $12k bike, you would have to add the time and energy spent to fit and dial it in. Therefore by the time you're finished you would have a bike where you would never be able to make your money back if you ever sell it. Keep up the great work and I look forward to what you have coming next. 🇬🇧

Ex-race bikes on the road are bonkers! I rode an 09 CBR1000RR of a friend that was converted back from track to road (in trim only), that thing had a CRAZY powerband, 2nd gear half throttle over 6000rpm and it would just start to power wheelie. Compared to a stock CBR1000RR, it was a night and day difference, and it's not like any stock modern liter superbike is sluggish by any means.
