Wonderful video man. I also had the same exact experience with stopping Finasteride for 3 months and the same happened! The crazy part is that I started seeing miniaturization even in areas that I had never seen affected before starting (like the crown)

Excellent video! Can you cover Topical Dutasteride? Also do you think there is anything that can target hair follicle mitochondria (current or future) for androgenetic alopecia ?

Hello, I covered topicals here: kzbin.info/www/bejne/jILZiJyZYtabp9Usi=HPBWXzul468Rh2KC. They all fall under the same issues. With regards to the mitochondria, this is not an area of interest to target in miniaturization. The dermal papillae as a unit would be more relevant.

Absolutely no issues, and we should be able to enjoy products like these, even if they are not "optimal" or don't benefit our hairs health. But they 100% don't have any effect on miniaturization. I'll cover all of my hair washing routine in a single video one day soon. It is a very customised approach rather than buying head and shoulders etc.

I’ve been on finesteride for a little over 3 years as a mono therapy since I was 19. (I have naturally thin hair and aggressive MPB). So i’m 22 and what ur telling me is I need to hop onto minoxidil asap either orally or topically? Every year i’ve been on finesteride I seem to go through a shed around the same time I started the drug (january). Hoping this one comes back strong again if not I may implement 0.5 dut once a week and see if I tolerate that. Hoping some of these topical anti androgens in clinical trials workout in the next 3-5 years!

Yeah basically, synergy is key here - one needs to delay the aging of matrix cells and elongate finite anagen. I wish I did this when I was 22.

There are studies indicating that a dose of 0.2 mg daily gives you about 80 % of the effect of 1 mg daily. However, there's no harm in trying. I started at 1 mg daily and experienced side effects (though I think there may have been a nocebo factor to these). I therefore stopped taking the drug for a few days until I felt better and then got on 1 mg every other day and have had no issues at all on that dose. You have to remember that less than 2 % of people experience side effects on 1 mg daily.

Tbh shampoo will not make a difference to hair loss. However, it will make a difference to hair shaft/scalp health and appearance by how it penetrates the cuticle and acts on the cortex temporarily for aesthetic healthy looking and hydrated hair. The products you have mentioned I would disregard. I highly recommend a shampoo range with lower pH values to balance the hair strand/scalp pH. I highly recommend CRLab which I use myself and intend on covering in one video.

Question: when you are losing hair, each hair gets shorter and thinner with each hair cycle. My question is does that happen in reverse when you start taking finasteride. Or does taking finasteride have a one time jump up the hair cycle?
@TheHairChemist
@TheHairChemist 6 ай бұрын
You will get one jump of improvement which will take up to one year to appreciate fully as hair cycling occurs in asynchrony on the scalp. Thereafter for several years you'll see the result maintaining. Eventually, as DHT continues to bind to the androgen receptor you'll notice the gradual decline in future future hair cycles as miniaturization continues to progress at a slowed rate due to reduced DHT levels from Finasteride therapy.
@Nathan47223
@Nathan47223 6 ай бұрын
@@TheHairChemist Would 2.5 mg dutasteride theoretically halt hair loss almost to a complete stop considering it's 97% serum dht reduction and more importantly 80% scalp dht reduction? Finasteride only reduced scalp dht by about 40% so i guess the cumulative dht damage makes sense long term
@TheHairChemist
@TheHairChemist 6 ай бұрын
@@Nathan47223 No Dutasteride also won't stop miniaturization. It is also better to start with Finasteride over Dutasteride. Trying to inhibit DHT to very low levels is physiologically abnormal and likely unwise. There are thresholds to reward vs trade-off when we try to augment/interfere with naturally occuring hormones.

@tomcotter4299
@tomcotter4299 6 ай бұрын
Based on your thumbnail, I’d guess you are a Norwood 3. That’s where there is a lot of recession on both the left and right corners at the front of the scalp. If you also have a bald spot on your crown, then you’re a Norwood 3V (V for Vertex). Finasteride and minoxidil can help prevent further hair loss, but you won’t see anything near full regrowth to a Norwood 1 or 0. You will likely need a hair transplant to restore the front, and probably 2 transplants if you have significant loss in the back.

@@Niko-Suave Agreed, man. I really wish a doctor or someone had told me what to look out for in my 20s, and that I had started finasteride around 29-30 when I still had no visible signs of balding. I noticed that my corners had receded to about a Norwood 0.5 - 1 a couple of years ago at 32 Fortunately finasteride and minoxidil have worked quite well for me, with very minimal and manageable side-effects. Now I'm basically back to Norwood 0 with nothing but the big two (finasteride + minoxidil). I hope you see some regrowth a as well. A bit of friendly advice since I've probably spent 1,000+ hours researching different therapies and experimented with them on myself: 1) Stick with the big two medical therapies. Don't stop if you experience minor side-effects. Those are temporary, if they occur at all. And 2) Use both for 1-2 years before you seek out a hair transplant. Due to the length of the hair cycle, that's how long it takes to see the final result you're going to get from medical therapy. Every hair counts. You want to be sure you've gotten as much as you can get out of finasteride and minoxidil before you start dipping into your limited reserve of donor hair with a transplant.

It is a real and unnecessary risk. You should stop using finasteride at least 1-month prior to conception. And you should make sure your pregnant wife avoids any contact with the drug while carrying your child. That means you should not use a topical version of finasteride during the pregnancy, since that formulation is easiest to transfer to another person’s skin.
@dallaslooksmaxxer3505
@dallaslooksmaxxer3505 6 ай бұрын
I think it’s more of a precautionary thing. No recorded incidents exist that prove that finasteride use had any adverse effects in terms of pregnancy. But still, the drug isn’t exactly compatible with female physiology. Best to avoid it and in any event talk to your physician.
