Today I wanted to open up and talk about my experience with severe anxiety (panic attacks, dissociation, obsessive thoughts, and more) and how I've deliberately designed my life to reduce the chances of getting sick with anxiety again in the future (despite a very strong family history and my own predisposition).
I discuss my family history, my own bouts of severe anxiety, and I cover all the lifestyle modifications I've made over the years to improve my mental health (I almost 100% self-manage my mental health).
Like staying physically healthy, staying mentally healthy is something I work at every single day of my life.
I have been free of anxiety for a number of years now - long may that continue! :)

G'day!
I'm Jess Van Den - a former school teacher and science communicator - and I've wanted to make a living online since 1998. But it took me another decade to figure out how...
I started my craft business Epheriell.com as a hobby in 2008 - and in 2010 I went full-time.
I've been 100% self-employed ever since.
In 2013 I also started createandthrive.com to help other makers turn their handmade hobby into a thriving business via a blog, podcast, courses, membership community + more.
I also love learning & sharing more about health, happiness, plants, and how to be more effective as a work-from-home, full-time self-employed creative - so I have all the time I need to do all the things I love.

Anxiety is so, so hard to manage and can lead to depression due to feeling so hopeless. I have agoraphobia, social anxiety, and OCD. I’m taking medication, which has side effects, but I can’t go back to the panic and ceasing of living life.

When you brought up disassociating I could relate so much I have terrible anxiety and I disassociate randomly throughout the day and no one understands. My ex boyfriend never understood me and always jus told me to knock it off. This would lead me to ignore my anxiety but I would eventually explode cuz I couldn’t take the pain anymore. Exploding brought me over the edge to almost taking my life because of how bad it was. As of rn I’m medicated which makes it more manageable but exercise has been making a big difference. I also find the most busy I am and when I have things planned throughout the week I was the most happiest. Thanks for making this video.

Thanks so much for sharing this Jess, I have been dealing with anxiety for the last 20 years and it has only been recently that I have started working on myself and looking at getting to a place of peace. I find it hard to keep things going or start new things because I don't have faith in myself but this year and last I have been working on that. Thanks again x

Thanks so much for sharing Jess. I had no idea that you suffered so much. I can really relate to every word after being through my own journey with anxiety, depression, panic attacks and OCD. I can’t give up caffeine though 😉….Breaking through that period to the other side of anxious times through lifestyle changes and finding ‘ME’ again was so empowering. Sounds like you have some great strategies for life. Very keen to read spark too. Happy NY!

Thanks Elise! I hesitated to share for a long time, but I really feel so passionate about how powerful we are and how much we can change ourselves if we implement the right strategies (for us) - and so I hope what I shared might inspire/help someone else who is suffering like we have.

Girl, this video honestly could not have come at a better time! I feel quite depressive and spiral into a hole, ruminating about 'stuff' indeed! Now that I have just started Etsy/Instagram getting my self out there.... I feel these feeling creeping in and a tonne of self doubt, its hard to battle at times, I try to just get one foot on front of the other. Thankyou sooo much for sharing your story xxxx

One foot in front of the other is all we can ever do! I know it can be hard to get ourselves out of that rumination spiral. Good luck with your business x

Do you still have anxiety?
@JessVanDen
@JessVanDen 3 ай бұрын
Very, very occasionally I might have a momentary bit of proper anxiety (such as a panic or anxiety attack), like, once or twice a year. So 99.9% of the time, I'm anxiety-free.
