Okay sooooo you want to hear about my Taco Bell experience. Here it goes: I worked the third shift (8 p.m. to 3a.m.) and at 1 in the morning people would be coming from the bars, hence us calling it "the bar rush". The first incident was when a guy came in the drive thru and ordered a Nacho Supreme, extra nacho cheese in a "to go cup", and a Mountain Dew. He screamed at me quote "Don't give me no cold nacho cheese. I need it hot". I said "Okay no problem sir" I went to our back kitchen and got a fresh pan of nacho cheese sauce "brand new, freshly made, and piping hot" out of the big oven. Put three pumps of the nacho cheese in the cup and placed it in his bag and handed him his food and drink. "Have a nice day sir". He took the cup out the bag and proceeded to taste it and screamed "I said I wanted it hot" and threw the cup of scalding hot nacho cheese directly in my face hitting me right in my left eye and down the side of my face causing really bad blisters. Second incident: four teenagers came in the drive thru in their kkk sheets and hoods during Halloween. Funny thing was that they were polite, never said anything racially insensitive while I took their order, but they did yell "yte power "as they drove off. Third incident: It was the summer of '94 and the Greatful Dead was having their farewell tour (I think the lead singerJerry Garcia, died the next year). Everyone and their grandmamma got tickets to the concert so of course no one showed up to work but me. Not even management. But instead of just closing the store, they called another Taco Bell and asked to borrow two employees. They sent a new hire who had only been working for a week , and a "manager in training". The new hire didn't know what he was doing and the manager felt he didn't need to help because of his title so needless to say, I did everything. I come in the next morning to a sign on the door that read "closed till further notice". When I went inside, the cops were their and the stores' safe was wide open. Guess who they grilled? Yup, me. "Did you see him turned the dial on the safe"? "Was the alarm set"? "Were all your cash drawers counted properly"? I told my boss, none of this was my respinsibility, I'm not the manager. Two weeks later, they found out that the "manager in training" never set the alarm and came back through the drive thru window and cleaned out the safe.

I was listening to this while at work and I was having flashbacks to when I worked at Waffle House for a few years after a few setbacks after graduating college. I cried after my interview because I could not wait until that part of my life was over. I knew my time at WH was temporary, but I was still feeling like somehow I failed. I thought I was doing right, I went to college, I got the degree, so how did I end up here? Chile! If you have that livestream I'd love to contribute!

Your commentary is like warm soothing water. Thank you so much. I hear you. The way the system is currently set up is to have more people homeless. So the rich can hand pick their workers and we can be happy we have a job! I know my current circumstances are not my fault. I did everything my parents trained me to do and still cannot purchase a home or pay market rent for that matter. It’s just validating to hear from someone else. It’s an acknowledgment of my and our experiences. Keep talking young one. We see you.

It's a business at the end of the day so the hospital looks at the survey's if customers oh i mean patients are happy its more money for the hospital, we get a better status. If we are keeping patients safe its not for them corporate looks at is as more embarrassments for the hospital etc. its all a business very similar to my customer service days. High stress but way more pay. And you think people are mean when they're hungry just wait til they are sick and in pain! :O

But I do agree that the industrialization of medical care is AWFUL. While I think we should work to make sure people are getting a quality experience at the hospital, some of the c suite executives are outta control 😅 I remember there were folks in th. C suite who I just flat out ignored. They want you to cower and be afraid of them. It's weird and gets in the way of actually helping patients. 💛

But honestly don't take it personally because sometimes I have done that, sometimes the customer goes about their day, maybe it's their lunch break or something and they're so tired the "hi how are you" is just drowned out in their brain already and they just wanna get to the order part because they have so much going on in their mind they don't have time for small talk.
