It sounds fabulous! Sounds like a mid sixties 289 271HP, only meaner! You might want to look at Vise Grip Garage big block rebuild #2 installment where he gives very pointed instruction on setting valves with stud mount aluminum rockers with hydraulic radical cam. It looks to be fail safe, and something I would like to have known 50 years ago! Could have saved a lot of money.

When using those screw in head studs you should put the head on first then screw in the studs so as not to scrape the head on the threads of the studs and cause some aluminum shavings to possibly fall in the engine

Love to see her come alive again! An idea to resolve noise based off of my recent 351W build in my dentside: if it isn’t valve train, check your intake bolts to see if everything is sealed properly. Had a concerning noise similar to yours that was caused by an air/vacuum leak coming up where a bolt and washer met the aftermarket intake; we eliminated noise once we added gasket maker and totally sealed off space between bolt, washer & intake

I try and keep up on your f100 its been badass to watch you build it. I'm stuck in a rut with my highboy trying to figure out which direction I want to go with it. So far ive made it reliable by rewiring it and upgrading the ignition system, cooling and suspension. Slowly been fixing the body, ive got a bed thats in great shape but i still use the truck to cut and haul firewood so im kind of afraid to fix it up too much.

First time viewer. Nice truck. I've owned many F100's, so that's what made me click. Another viewer suggested watching Derek from Vice Grip Garage as he's got a great set of videos on valve train adjustments and pushrod calculations. I've built 50 motors or more (long ago lost count), but he even learned me a thing or two. Besides being funny as heck, the dude will help you give it all the onions.

Micro ball valves are available to screw into to block for coolant drainage. Luv mine, They are barbed on the end for a hose witch in my case is clear. Mess free..! Draining from the block lets the level come down far enough where if the intake is taken off there is no intake and head port coolant that dumps into the oil galley, or if the heads are removed nothing dumps into the cylinders. If my motor oil is clean i still remove it anyway and re-use it.

I run valvoline vr1 20-50 in my 408ci Ford and it loves it! Plenty of zinc for the flat tappet cam to stay happy. Make sure you have enough preload. When I put my cam in I thought 1/2 a turn past zero lash was enough preload but I had a similar tick to what you have. I looked at my cam specs and it called for 3/4 turn of preload on the lifters and that took away my ticking noise. So just some food for thought!

Keep it carb it Easier to fix also carburetter makes more power fuel injection is a high pressure operated system Which creates heat and kills horsepower with a carburetter you have the atomization of the fuel across the Ventures which drops the air intake temperature creating more horsepower you typically see 10 hp more on the carburetter then on a bolt on EFI system

I believe it to be a rocker, although I checked all rockers on that side and they were tight. I have driven approx 1000 miles so far on this engine and the noise has quieten down considerably but can still hear it from time to time when driving slowly. Just thought I’d share with you.
