Okay long story short. I had a similar issue with an exhaust leak, come to find out I had a slight leaks on the bottom side of my header that would quite up after it got warm. With that being said, make sure your header isn’t slightly hitting the angled part of your head and holding it off the mounting surface. Might be it, might not but figured I’d throw it out there for you. Love the truck and the channel dude keep it up

Just build another one. And another one, and another one, eventually one will be good enough it won't blow. Did the same with transmissions in my 454 shortbed stepside Chevy. Tried 4 speed transmissions, first lasted 3 days, next lasted 3 months, then rear end broke, tore up the driveshaft, and killed a 3rd transmission. It's just how it goes with street toys.

@9:44 I'm almost 100% sure that's my old El Camino it's a 71 with 72 turn signals on the front. I sold it way back in 2003-2004. I miss her so much. When I sold it I was running low 10s and got kicked out of Fontana speedway for breaking into the high 9s with only lap belts and no cage. I didn't want to cut her up for a cage and I was daily driving it. It's a fake SS I put all the stuff in it, to turn it into a super sport..

my firebird did crazy backfires on decel to with the old engine because off leaky headers, it pulled in air to the exhaust and made it light the fuel in the pipes fixed the leak no more decel pops

Yeah those exhaust leaks light up any unburned fuel in the exhaust for sure. Rev it up, let off, exhaust leak sucks in oxygen rich air, BANG! My first car was a Chevy Chevette with an exhaust leak and it would shoot 3 foot flames letting off on an exit ramp lol! 😆

I had an exhaust leak on my 78 Dodge truck and at the high rpms when you let off the gas it would pop super loud like that, I think it was creating a vacuum and pulling in extra air in the exhausts and igniting unburnt gas.

Come on craig dude !!! You put a formula cowl style aircleaner and don't run a functional cowl hood!! Even if it just a 1 inch rise make it functional or go full 3 inch cowl hood. It does make a difference with air flow under the hood

Sounds like exhaust leak. HEY YOU EVER WANT TO FIND EXHAUST LEAK OR ANY ENGINE NOISE USE 3/4 heater hose and listen through it you can find it right down to the spot. Rubber hose drowns out all the noise but right at the end of the hose. Send your header out and get resurfaced new gasket and on your way.
