A girl with waardenburg syndrome came into the store I work at the other day and was shopping for makeup and had such low confidence. She kept saying she wanted to wear fun colorful makeup, but it wouldn't look good on her. I told her "All you need is confidence and anything can look good with that. You're unique and beautiful. Do what you want with your makeup." and she seemed so happy and bought all the things she at first was scared to try.

My episodes are very unpredictable and anything can trigger an episode.

happens to me all the time too with bipolar and psychosis. I got used to not letting it get to me as bad anymore, and to just educate them instead. Plus, with my disorders i haven't been able to work for almost a year, and now it's pretty obvious to people that I'm not lying, since I've had 20 jobs this year that all failed lol. As unfortunate as that is. I've also learned to defend myself by saying that I am not ashamed, and I'm not striving to be "normal", that is fine to accept who you are, and deal with it in a positive manner. I don't like when people try to make me feel better by saying i'm probably normal cuz i don't act crazy, it's just tiring. I'd rather it be accepting
@PsychosisFun8 жыл бұрын
When I was in college, one girl in my drawing class kept asking all sorts of questions of what it's like to "have a mental disorder". She was fascinated and wanted to understand intellectually. It bothers me when people do this. They want to understand, but they ask in completely the wrong way and still don't understand me in the slightest when I try to break it down for them. But, I digress. I love myself. This "disorder", which merely means not organized, is something I have accepted as a part of me and I revel in it. It just happens to be extreme, keeping me from being able to even apply for a job.

Your original Waardenburg video was the first video I saw by you (a while ago now), and honestly, when I looked at the thumbnail I could tell that yes, you did have different looking features from the people I know. You looked strange to me - not in a bad way, I never thought it was ugly or horrible, it was a . . . good strange, if you know what I mean? I was kind of just like "woah, that's new. This guy's gorgeous, though" (as you said, you didn't realise you were a girl at the time, so my thought was "male" - definitely still drop dead gorgeous and rocking it as your true feminine self, hun). And you're absolutely right. You shouldn't need some sort of validation like "oh no, honey, God, no, you look so normal!!!1!" Normalcy is boring, yo, who wants to be normal?

Just saying, Waardenburg Syndrome is not a disease, but not all diseases are contagious. That misconception can be problematic in itself; when I say I have an incurable genetic disease, that doesn't mean you can "catch it" by being around me, drinking my drinks, sleeping with me, etc. It just means, "An interruption, cessation, or disorder of a body, system, or organ structure or function." My blood is screwed up and trying to kill me, basically, but you have no chance of getting that from me unless you are my biological child.
@rhiannonenright44588 жыл бұрын
When you associate diseases with "contagious illnesses," you perpetuate the toxic stigma against people who have diseases. I really like your videos, and I know acceptance and being informed are both important to you; but this one part disappointed me.

I just wanted to share with you and everyone else, that genetics isn't a guarantee that anyone will show/develop that disease, either. Genes are just a blueprint, and can be activated or deactivated by outside factors such as stress, nutrient deficiencies, toxicities. If anyone is interested in more info, I suggest researching "epigenetics" and Dr. Joel Wallach gives so much info on "diseases" and the nutrient deficiencies involved. Many videos from Dr. Wallach are on youtube, also Dr. Peter Glidden can give great info. It makes me sad to think of people suffering when they don't have to, there are solutions.
@rhiannonenright44588 жыл бұрын
***** This "doctor" they mentioned claims that all natural deaths are caused by "mineral deficiencies" which can be "cured" by taking a daily regimen of vitamins. This has been disproved so many times over, but he is just a quack. Sure, incurable diseases can be treated, but they don't just go away by magic. I will always be at higher risk for blood clots, no matter what I do with diet or exercise or "toxicities."
@lauraromdeussen8648 жыл бұрын
Interesting that you use "person first" language--a "person with fetal alcohol syndrome." It's rare that you hear someone do this, even in the field of special education where it's beaten into our heads of "don't say "the autistic kid" but "that kid who has autism." Always recognize the person first. Awesome. Makes a huge difference.

When people say you "look" normal, it also implies that you "aren't" normal - that you're defined by your syndrome. I think that's really the annoying thing about it. People with any syndrome ARE normal. I think people often fail to see that a person is not the syndrome that they happen to have.
@NotAnotherKuromi8 жыл бұрын
+Aura Redwolf I think you are 'normal' just disabled. A lot of people use the word normal to mean acceptable, relateable, not equal, different in a bad way. I have to use a wheelchair but I am still me, a normal person, I want others to treat me as such, not to ignore my disability but to treat me with the same respect & dignity that they would use with any other healthy person. If people really used normal to mean the majority they would say that redheads are not normal, people working at Mc Donalds are not normal, having a pet horse is not normal, but I have not heard anyone say those things because it is usually used in a negative sense with negative connotations attached to the 'normal' label.

You are a beautiful person. And a beautiful woman, yes. I said the first sentence without specifying gender because even if I was to judge things through what's considered beautiful on female or male standards you still look beautiful anyway, in a way that actually (positively) baffles me. Plus you seem like a very nice person in personality too, which is even more important and beautiful about anyone. You're a great human being and that's the best way I can describe it. Keep being yourself, girl, the world is a better place with people like you in it.

When my brother started showing symptoms of the really rare syndrome he has, doctors thought that he had the same thing as you (mainly because he's deaf.) Turns out he has something else that's much rarer but I still think it's all really interesting. (PS I love the green hair, you literally rock every color wtf)
@djbananaphone8 жыл бұрын
(btw, I didn't mean "interesting" in an insensitive way, I'm just interested in genetics since it's had such an impact on my family ☺️)

Just curious because I find genetics interesting too: what does your brother have if you don't mind me asking? I wikipedia all these sorts of things just to learn more :3

god YES, that last thing you said, it's so bloody important. it's the same when people tell fat people "you're not fat, you're beautiful" well i'm gonna blow ur mind->>> they can be BOTH beautiful and fat. i am chubby and i'm great, i have acne and that's fine, this is just me. if i feel bad physically i like thinking about this short quote "i am not this hair, i am not this skin, i am the soul that lives within" coz ur just a person, it doesnt matter. ur lovely

Most of my family have Waardenburg Syndrome and i'm so glad that you're talking about it so openly. Most of my family are also deaf so when they ask me why they are and I say that they have Waardenburg Syndrome and deafness is really common with Warddenburg Syndrome they never know what it is. People can often be judgemental about Waardenburg Syndrome and it annoys me.

I've just watched both of your videos on your face and they are amazing. My daughter after many genetics tests regarding her micro deletion chromosome disorder is now being tested for Waardenburg syndrome. Your videos on it are so enlightening. My daughter has a beautiful and unusual face which shares so many of your traits that everything now seems to make sense, from her facial structure to her deafness right down to the quick hair growth which has always astounded me. When her diagnosis is confirmed I'll certainly show her your videos so she understands how fabulously cool and original she is. Many many thanks Jo

I'm @ 2:02 "My face is cute!" You are fucking awesome!!! and now, to watch the rest 😋 soo, just watched the rest and you seriously got to me, I love your positivity!❣️❣️❣️ Seriously, you made me cry! I sooo needed to hear that right now, you are such an amazing beautiful human being!❣️❣️❣️🤗 For the first time ever I'm getting a completely fem haircut💇, I am soo nervous because of the unknown results... but I have always wanted to try coloring my hair, but have been too scared to do it. Plus I have always donated my hair for cancer kids. I feel selfish "having some fun" instead of donating my hair next haircut. Idk why, but for some reason they don't accept died hair? idk y? Girl! You have given me validation that I should just be be me! I love you... not in a creepy way... but the love of a good friend.☺️☺️☺️ I'm totally going for black with a hot pink streak... may seem simple to you, but for me its revolutionary 💋 You are soo real, I seriously felt like we where just sitting and chatting! I wish I knew you in the real! p.s. I'm not stroking you, I seriously thought you were a woman in that first video... "the more you know" I feel like an idiot now, lol😋

**hugs** I used to be terrified of everyone - like I had AWFUL social anxiety. I ended up in CBT (cognitive behavioral therapy) and it helped me SO MUCH..still have anxiety, it's part of who I am, but it's no where near as bad as it used to be. I recommend looking into CBT, sometimes it's even offered through the school. And it's usually covered by insurance. I dunno I don't want to sound preachy or like someone with a savior complex so sorry if I come across like that but I just wanna help if I can, because CBT improved my life SO MUCH. See if there's a school counselor you could talk to- thats another thing that's helped me so much. Good luck

I honestly find your genetic birth defect pretty damn cool looking. Your eyes are beautiful and you definitely stand out among the crowd. I just recently found out I have genetic deformities 25 years and 5 surgeries later. Basically, mine is hard to tell unless you stare at my elbows which bend at weird angles. My joints are supposedly squared off and grind down as they move. I gained bone disease, arthritis, nerve damage, and lost rage of motion and strength thanks to mine. It makes me feel at least 10 years older than I am. >.

recynd77 Such is the cruel fate of life. I definitely feel for all who are born with one and definitely look up to people who can deal with theirs or embrace theirs. I'm glad to see her talking about hers. I hate mine since it's bad enough to make me lose jobs and always make me be in pain, but not bad enough for me to get taken seriously. Thank you very much! I could definitely use all the good vibes and luck I can get. :)
