Girl, you really need to watch the original 1993 film adaptation of Jurassic Park. Don’t sleep on it. I still remember the day my mom took me my sister and some of her friends to go see Jurassic Park at the theater opening weekend. It was a hell of a way to kick off summer after getting out of grade 9.

Love this channel. Loving the Year of Recs series. The one of these 3 that I am going to actually read...is the Arkkam one (and I don't play the game). 1920s and 1930s film is my favorite, so I'm diving in. Besides, there's nothing wrong with reading books that are just fun to read and aren't something you will remember in detail 10 years from now. I can't wait to see the next set of recs!

As a fan of Arkham Horror, Mask of Silver sounds very similar to the game! I can see why fans of the game would love to read books set in the same universe - sounds like there are lots of easter eggs based! I can also understand why it wouldn't work for non-fans.

I definitely see your point about going into IP books with a different set of expectations. I *love* some IPs that have books, and some of them are really strong books on their own, but there are also some that are strong *if you're a fan*. For example - I'm a big Star Trek fan. Been watching it since I was a kid in the 90s, and some of the books are excellent on their own just as stories - but some of them are great because of the connection to a pre established universe and if you have no connection or context, you're not going to enjoy it as much. (And then there are those that are just terrible, blatant cash grabs that even the biggest fans are like... Why?! And that's across IP book spaces. I can only speak to my area, but I know I've heard plenty of people fans of other IPs with books who've had similar issues.)

First of all, the family adorable. But, to answer your question, you can avoid the second JP by MC! It's like book 1 with different characters. If you want to read the same book AGAIN, you cannnnn. But, i don't suggest. That's my opinion and I know it's different for everyone, but I feel it was better left as a stand alone!

34:40 I can’t tell you whether to read The Lost World as it is so long since I read it, but I recently bought beautiful versions of the duology from The Folio Society.
