hi, basically what happened with the madarame boss fight is that the painting is only four different enemies, but there were 5 on the field. what most likely happened was that the game couldn’t process summoning Madarame individually because of the randomizer, so they just had him be the Take-Minakata. that’s why nothing appeared when Madarame was supposed to appear; you had already killed “him”

I think what may have happened is that there's actually supposed to be 3 waves of that fight. Two waves of two Oni, then a wave of two Oni and a Suu-Ki, where you automatically run away as soon as they spawn. Shido, with his general bugginess, may have prevented wave two from spawning, resulting in a softlock. On the bright side, this may have been less heartbreaking than finally downing Mot and Shido, then having another pair of shadows show up.

To be fair that fight does have a second wave of enimies spawn that you must defeat immediately after with a third after that that you run from so it's likely a second mot and shido were supposed to spawn and 2 Shidos cannot exist on one battlefield or the game commits die if I was to guess

I know it might be though to do Challenge Runs of this game. I TRIES to do NG+ cause I liked the game but i couldn't sit through the hours of dialogue, cutscenes and even walking over the same, mostly empty palaces so seeing you re-doing it over and over again to get good RNG just feels different to me. Your humor and editing are very very nice too, i was surprised how fast these 40min passed while watching the video. Plz keep up with the good work cause, as hard as it might be to make this run, it's just as fun to watch!

my man was done dirty in that fight. I'm wondering if the thing that froze the game is the fact that (I know in royal, unsure in the original) after beating the first set of enemies, the game sends out a second pair without ending the battle. If you haven't tried killing shido first, then maybe that will do something? Otherwise I don't know of anything you could do to get out of that softlock. My guess on why the game froze: Because it was in a boss fight, there was likely supposed to be a cutscene trigger, and it’s probably hard coded in so when you beat phase 2 shido in a boss fight (any boss fight, doesn’t matter if it’s a mini boss or not) it triggers a cutscene, causing the end scene for that mini boss and Shido phase 3 scene to trigger at the same time, thus crashing the game I’d assume the same would happen for other multi phase bosses that have a cutscene between phases, like Kaneshiro (specifically the Piggytron), Madarame (Painter’s face), or Akechi (Prince), but I’m not sure, I’m just spitballing here

The term I was looking for for boss fights and mini bosses is “static fights” or “set fights,” ones that are only in one spot and required to progress story, phase 2 Shido may have been hard coded to trigger the phase 3 scene after he was defeated, but only in static fights

On top of having random enemies, he also was also doing a self imposed challenge where he would get 1 random persona for Joker, which he would swap at the start every palace. So what he meant was that if he got a treasure demon for Joker, since Treasure Demons can't be used in battle, he wouldn't be able to use a persona for Joker.
