I think you would love cornmeal porridge that we have in Jamaica. It is very similar to this, except that we typically drink it warm and use finer ground cornmeal for it. It is one of my favorite breakfast items.

You’d probably love horchata. It’s a Spanish thing as well. Ground white rice, cinnamon, etc. Mexicans usually make it with condensed and evaporated milk but some places in Central America make it without milk which I really like.

Hey I’m from Jamaica and we have a similar dish. It’s called Hominy Porridge. It’s slow cooked corn, coconut milk/milk, vanilla, cinnamon and nutmeg. Usually sweetened with condensed milk and brown sugar. It’s creamy, tender and chewy. Best served hot😁🇯🇲 that drink looks super delicious.

Sweetened Condensed milk is quite a secret treat for those that don't know about how different it is. It tastes like icing, syrup, cream, and coconut cream in such an odd way. Coconut cream is the closest thing to sweetened condensed milk

I wonder if that's where the origins of it came from, Africa using something else (given corn didn't exist until the Colombian exchange) and then when Africans were forced over to the Americas they adapted to corn, and then perhaps the exchange happened again to bring corn over to Africa? That’s what’s known as “atole” in Mexico. We make a variety of different flavors with it like strawberry, chocolate, vanilla, and the regular flavor which is similar to this one made in the video. It’s always good during winter so we make it very hot to warm us up

@@joetroy2904no, atole is a Nahuatl word. They didn’t have rice. It was corn. As for temperature there’s no set thing. I will drink it hot when freshly made, usually in the morning, and cold later by just putting left overs into ice. If you made it rice based it would be arroz con leche. I drink it the same way, hot in the mornings, and later on as a cold pudding.

In Jamaica, we have a variation of this. We use the whole corn, serve it warm and call it Hominy Corn Porridge. Some add a bit of flour or some kind of starch to thicken it. If we use cornmeal instead of corn, it becomes cornmeal porridge.

Here in Brazil we have it too: Is a seasonal dish very popular all around the country, mostly during june and july, and we call it "Canjicada". The most common recipe is made out of whole corn grain, not the macerated ones, but there is the ground grains recipe as well.

Try a similar Indian one, called "Payasam". it can be made with rice, wheat grains, Vermicelli. There are a lot of varieties from jaggery to adding nuts to spices. You can tailor it as per ur needs.

I'm already skinny enough but when I caught COVID last year I completely lost the ability to eat for nearly 2 weeks. My fiance is both a nurse and part Mexican. She would make me a big batch of this stuff every day and it was no joke the only thing I could get and keep down. This drink literally saved my life (or at least major hospital bills). It also gets CRAZY hot here in the summer so I will often just have a cup of this for lunch while working.

As a Indian, we have similar dish, It's made from the broken wheat, /rice/split moong dal,etc also we add Nuts like almond,cashew,pistachios,roasted in ghee. You can add dates,if you want Also cardamom and clove gives it a better taste,bit only add 2 cardamom and 2 cloves for 1- 2 servings. You can use jaggery instead of sugar. You can also add coconut to this. the name dish name is KHEER. This is delicious and healthy. Note - aromatics,spices and nuts roast it in ghee then add to the boiled milk mixture. If you dont have spices atleast add cardamom,if you want colour add natural saffron.

@@gabdominates yeah it's amazing and sweet that's good for health, Cashew,almonds,pistas,raisins,etc Nuts are nutrition dense foods. Ghee is good source of fat. Instead of sugar you can use jaggery. The dish name is kheer(rice/wheat/etc).

If you liked this you should try Chinese Sago! It's tiny little tapioca pearls and there are many various flavours of drinks to pour over it. Edit: When I meant Chinese sago I meant ones with typical Chinese flavours that I'm personally familiar with, yes, I know it's used internationally, but I'm just recommending something I have experience with. Fun fact: There’s a similar savoury version of this in Rajasthan, India. Farmers would have a bowl full of it and work the whole day on the field, in scorching sun. They say because of that drink they were immune to heat strokes. The drink is called “Makki Raabdi” ☺️
