Recently, I have been more impressed by Horror movies versus Action, Big Budget, RomCom, etc. As you said, Action movies and the like put me to sleep while a decent Horror movie puts me on the edge of my seat.

Do you happen to listen to the podcast "Random Number Generator Horror Podcast #9"? It's from a duo responsible for the podcast "Welcome to Night Vale" and they just offer some brilliant in-depth analyses on randomly chosen horror movies. I'm a bit horror-squeamish but find some great movies from their recommendations (the synopses help me decide if I could handle watching them). Anyway, if it's of any interest, maybe give them a listen!

With twitter the way it depicts the world, do you even need to pay to see horror anymore?

I think the Dashcam discussion is an interesting one. The Sopranos and Breaking Bad opened the door to main characters who are morally repugnant, but yet i dont think most viewers dislike them. Particularly in the case of BB, I thought they magnificently sold you Walt’s lies to the point you actually believe them and like him. But in the same vein, I’m a believer of Mike’s “in the game” logic. The murders and crimes Walt committed were 99% against fellow criminals. It’s only when you start to see how he destroyed his life and family that most viewers (I think) began to dislike him. I for one was with him to the end. But a character who many politically disagree with is a vastly different thing as most people lack the nuance to see the opposite side as anything more than pure idiots. I think we should see characters we dislike or disagree with. Particularly in horror because I think it’s interesting to take someone you disagree with and make you feel sympathy for them in the worst possible situation despite all their perceived shortcomings.

I care very little about horror movies. There are some that catch my attention but it’s not a mainstay ( I’m of an age that prefers quiet and a comfortable place to sit). What I like about your videos about horror is your excitement and descriptions about what you like about the films (if you can even call them “films” anymore). One thing you said in the past about movies I completely disagree with: you won’t give a movie less than a 5 on say IMDB because of the work that goes into making a movie. That denies accuracy in the rating system and is lying. The rating system is very important. Some people like bad movies and you misrepresent a movie as a 5 if say it’s a sub 4 or sub 3. If I’m looking for something so ridiculous that will make me laugh through all the serious scenes, you’ve robbed me and the movie maker by giving it a 5 because I won’t bother with a 5 if I’m looking for something really bad.
