@@Ur2ez4me81 it just takes practice the best way he described it to me was a v shape going backwards and to keep your weight more so on your toes but not over doing it. I practiced it for 15 minutes with him stopping by to give tips and I finally got it. Still haven’t fully mastered it but I actually move now, just gotta learn how to go faster

I think you captured the magic of Monday night. I remember the first class I had. Right before starting the lesson, you told us to wait so you could take care of something. You went and helped this GIANT dude get from the carpet to the lesson area. He was massive and totally uncomfortable on skates, but you must have known he needed a helping hand. It was so sweet!

I really envy the rich roller skate culture over there. Like where I live in Japan, there is no skate rink, I don't know anyone that skates, I can't even find a shop that sells jam plugs and most public spaces prohibit any kind of skating, etc. So I've been practicing all by myself on my tiny roof top.One day when I can travel freely again, Ima definitely come visit FVSC!!!
@Dirtydeborahharry3 жыл бұрын
This really saddens me. In the mid 1980's, my sister toured Japan as part of a quartet of skaters that put on artistic skating demonstrations for the opening of a whole chain of roller rinks across Japan. They started out in Osaka. There were huge crowds at every opening, reporters, photographers ... the whole nine yards. Crazy how times change.
@Lady0Soul3 жыл бұрын
@@DirtydeborahharryThat is so surprising and also sad for me to hear. Because of the Olympics, now there are some new skateboard parks, yet roller skate is not allowed 💔 In your latest video, you mentioned skate more to gain inner thigh strength. Does that mean skate longer distance? I'm on day 70 of my journey and feel like my body hasn't been really understanding or learning ,,,what is needed or what does keeping balance mean or,,,idk how to say but definitely I haven't gained enough roller skating muscle memory and that is what making my progress so slow....😥

Hey is so right about you forget about the “Real World”. I’ve been skating since childhood and started back at age 50, for me as you get older your insecurities chime in about injuries. I need a hip replacement, but my love of skating while wearing a brace makes me forget about the pain until the next day. My doctor would probably disagree...but as long as I can still move, I will continue to skate, so no matter what age or elements you have keep moving!!!! Love the videos , continue to always learn!!!

Debbie it’s so great to watch your video’s. I live in Syracuse NY and we use to have 2 skating rinks. That being said we only have a half of one now. If I’m being fair it’s just to small and the roof leaks. It’s cut into 2 sections half is a indoor skate park and the other half is for roller skating. Way to small for roller skating. I wish we had a full size rink again, but all the full size ones didn’t survive the pandemic. I would love to invest in one and keep the love for roller skating alive her in central NY. Anyways thank you sharing.

It took me just over 2 months to get really comfortable with skating, I'm still in the relearning process but I'm getting better little by little. When I first started getting back into skating I couldn't even keep my balance very good, so I got the idea of getting a umbrella stroller and BAM it worked like a charm, now I'm working on being able to skate without it, it's a process but with alot of practice and determination you will get there. Just don't give up, keep practicing as Dirty Debbie says! Everytime I get my skates on I hear Dirty saying go practice and I say I'm on it Dirty lol.

Each person is totally different, some folks take 1-2 months, some folks take longer and some people just have a natural center of gravity that is unexplainable on any sense of normal. It really depends on a few things: 1. Time you devote to learning. 2. Your form 3. Your attitude and 4. Ability to let go of your fears. Skating is a social sport/hobby. If you struggle and you're with others, they will help you get rolling and it is seriously a more supportive community than you think. So in essence, it depends on YOU.
