Absolutely LOVE your vlogs, guys! Really happy to see that you've been enjoying Romania so much! Our country has so much history and sight-seeing to offer, but unfortunately all the governments after the fall of communism have done a really lousy job at promoting the country for foreign tourists. It gives me great pleasure to see tourists from abroad discovering our amazing country! Peles Castle is definitely the crown jewel, BUT please bare in mind that it has seen better days :(. It was built as a summer residence for Romania's kings (we were a kingdom since the late 1800's up until after the 2nd World War), that's when we got most of our "shine". Peles Castle was one of the most modern and full of technology places from all around Europe when it was finished (early 1900's).

Ioan de Hunedoara (Latin Ioannes Corvinus,the family name comes from the Latin "Corvus", which means "Raven" )was one of the most important personalities in the history of Romania, Hungary and the Balkans. In 1409 his family Corvin (Voicu Corvin) received from Sigismund of Luxembourg the domain and the castle of Hunedoara, as a reward for his deeds of arms in the battles with the Turks. Surname he was subjected to the process of making a genealogy according to the fashion of the time ( According to the custom of the time, Voicu Corvin took the name Hunyadi (from Hunedoara)) His son, Matthew Corvinus, became king of Hungary. When he was reproached for having no royal origins, he referred to his Romanian origins as the only ones who stopped the Ottoman Empire from conquering Europe.

You should know that this castle has a greater correlation with Dracula than Bran Castle. In this castle, Vlad The Impaler was imprisoned for 7 years in the cellar of Corvin Castle, while he did not even set foot in Bran. In Sighisoara you will find the house where he was born, now is a restaurant there, you have the opportunity to eat in Dracula's birthplace ;)
@goway70773 жыл бұрын
Razvan Sidoreac, You don't know history my dear. Vlad was in Bran Castle whenever he moved troops to punish the Saxons because he passed by and left garrisons. Vlad the Impaler came to Corvinus Castle as a guest to plan the crusade with Matthias Corvinus, but Matthias stole the money sent by the pope from Rome for the purpose of the crusade and took Vlad III hostage. For fear of the Romanians, he sent Vlad III in forced domicile to Buda. Vlad III was never imprisoned in Corvin Castle as you think.

Hey. I am glad that you visited our small castle in Hunedoara and I am glad that you enjoyed it, but I allow myself to correct some errors that you had in the clip. :D Iancu de Hunedoara was not a Hungarian nobleman but a Romanian. His father was Romanian and his mother was of Greek origin after the chronicles of the time. In fact, his son Matei Corvin was lord over the Hungarians and from here starts a long list of frustrations and disputes between Hungarians and Romanians. Not even Romanians, at that time there was only Transylvania (Romania was born on December 1, 1918 by uniting the principalities with Transylvania at Alba Iulia), which was part of the Austro-Hungarian Empire with the major difference that Transylvania had regional autonomy, and Hungary as far as I know. did not have. There are many legends related to this castle, one says that Vlad Tepes was imprisoned here for almost 2 years by Iancu de Hunedoara. Otherwise, it's like that, I don't know if the other 2 castles are more impressive, it's very possible that this is the case, the castle of Corvinesti is the 2nd largest gothic castle in Europe. It's just that we don't really know how to promote our attractions. Hunedoara County probably has the most attractions in one place but I think that in terms of tourism it is on the last places (Ulpia Traiana Sarmizegetuza, Sarmizegetuza Regia, Gold Museum, Deva Fortress, Retezat National Park, a lot of cathedrals, Cincis Lake, just to name a few).

There's also a picturesque little restaurant not far from the Peleş castle grounds called Cabana Vănătoresc which serves lots of game (bear, mountain chicken, pheasent, most likely wild boar and venison), fish and other really tasty foods.

JetLag Warriors, The castle was not built by a Hungarian guy! It was built by Ioan Iancu Corvin who was a Romanian from Wallachia, the son of the noble knight Voicu Corvin. The Corvin family had as a noble emblem a raven, like the coat of arms of Wallachia. Raven in Romanian is corb and in Latin corvus. Ioan Corvin was a great military strategist and statesman. In the documents of the time, it is named Ioan the Romanian. He was duke of Severin, voivode of Transylvania, supreme military leader, governor and regent of Hungary. His son Matthias Corvin was king of Hungary but also a traitor to Vlad III the Impaler and Christianity by stealing money sent by the pope from Rome for the crusade against the Turks. I know you like history, so please be more careful.

Corvin Castle was laid out in 1446, when construction began on the orders of Voivode of Transylvania John Hunyadi (Hungarian: Hunyadi János, Romanian: Iancu or Ioan de Hunedoara) who wanted to transform the former keep built by Charles I of Hungary. The castle was originally given to John Hunyadi's father, Voyk (Vajk), by Sigismund of Luxembourg, king of Hungary and Croatia, as severance in 1409.[4] It was also in 1446 that John Hunyadi was elected as the regent-governor by the Diet. Voyk (Voicu, in Romanian) was born in Wallachia, according to the nearly contemporaneous historians Johannes de Thurocz and Gáspár Heltai.[7] Voyk had been serving as a "court knight" in the royal court when he received the demesne of Hunyad from King Sigismund, suggesting that he was descended from a prominent Wallachian family.[7] Modern historian Kubinyi wrote that Voyk most probably joined Sigismund in 1395.[7] In this year, Sigismund invaded Wallachia and restored his vassal, Mircea the Elder, to the princely throne.[29] He was last mentioned in a royal charter in 1414.[30] Voyk died before 12 February 1419.[22][31] On this day, a charter confirming the grant of 1409 was issued for Voyk's brother, Radol, and for Voyk's three sons: John the Elder, John the Younger, and Voyk.[22]
@goway70773 жыл бұрын
Adrian Sileanu, Easier with copy paste from wikipedia. In 1395, the Treaty of Friendship and Alliance against the Ottomans was signed in Brasov between Mircea the Old, the prince of Wallachia and Sigismund of Luxembourg, king of Hungary from equal positions. In 1394 was the victorious battle of Rovine. The question of vassality is only an assumption of some historians who are based on hypotheses. Mircea the Elder was never anyone's vassal.

If you end up going to the delta or Sulina make sure to take a boat ride with a guide (try to see beforehand if they speak any english for a better experience lol) There is one trip from the docks in sulina to Letea which I enjoyed (the trip costs like 155 lei tho, it's marked as 60 but that's only the boat ride fee, there is also some sort of safariesque van ride that let's you see horses and a meal in a village at the end, car ride is 25 or 35, meal is 60, those last two are optional within the Letea trip but I recommend them Oh, and if you end up visiting Sulina I recommend the food from Casa Coral. There's also a floating hotel called Carpatica I think, basically a small-medium ship reconditioned as a hotel that has a small cafe/restaurant with a nice fish pastry(very interesting, didn't taste like I'd expect but in a good way)

Peleș Castle is amazing, the Corvin Castle has a GOT/ Hogwarts vibe. Also you might think on checking Salina Turda which is a Disneyland within a salt mine. It's not too far from your location.

You could've picked "The Nun", "Dragonnheart" or "Fright Night 2" for real movies shot in that castle...

The Corvins were a dynasty of mixed vlach-magyar(romanian-hungarian) origins. Among the first great princes of the dynasty, Iancu(Ianos), prince of the Transylvania was vlach(rou) nobleman and married a magyar(hung) noblewoman and their son, Matei(Mathiasz/Matthew) Corvin was among the greatest kings of the Hungarian Kingdom. Thats why both Hung and Rou consider at least these two guys their princes/rulers/kings ;)

Using your aerial shots as references for a 3d model btw as there are no good shots from more sides of the fortress :)) many thanks !
