- Sibiu, Brasov & Rasnov are three beautiful cities, kind of close to each other. You can also go to Sinaia, see the Peles Castel and Cantacuzino and from there, grab a cable cart or an SUV to the Bucegi Mountains and see the Sphynx and Babele. - The Black Sea : Constanta and Mamaia to check out the Black Sea. - The Danube Delta, Mark Wiens shot some sick videos there, it is the only place that I haven't visited yet. Romania's Moldova would be great, Iasi is an amazing eastern city, with lots of old and historical monasteries nearby. - Maramures, it is a huge, beautiful and very traditional region, I would recommend that you learn more about it, because there are a lot of things to see there. - The Retezat Mountains are great for hiking, but you might need a guide for that. - The Danube's Boilers (Cazanele Dunarii) in the SW part of the country, you also have there Decebal's head. - Hunedoara county with the ancient Dacian Fortress of Sarmizegetusa Regia. - Prahova county with the Dacian Farm, it was covered by Mark Wiens as well and I have to admit that after seeing his video, I've went there for two nights and it was awesome, the accommodation was a bit expensive, but it was worth it, there is a pretty steep hill there, above the farm, that overlooks dozens and dozens of kilometers, as the eyes can see, with lots of vineyards from Tohani. - Cluj-Napoca city is very trendy and hip and it is close to Turda, a salt mine like you've never seen before.

Wrong. Catalin has no clue what so ever, about anything (he can't even explain right what Schengen is😂). Romania is NOT in the Balkans. The Balkans are a range of nountains, now in Bulgaria, below the Danube, a river which delimitate Romania from Bulgaria (and Serbia), the river Danube being the southern border of Romania. So HOW can be Romania in the Balkans?? It's ridiculous. Probable Catalin never went to school (which is obvious), nor do you have internet access😉 to check it out for yourself. And concening the mountanain range, Romania is in the CARPATHIANS! Ever heard of it? Check it on the net. If you went (by now) in the Carpathians (Transfagarasan road), Peles Castle etc.. and you thougt those are "the Balkans"😉🤣, than you have a serious (elementary) information problem. As globetrotter, you can't afford to not know these elementary things (at least for your followers), esspecially now when everybody has internet access, even in remote places like Tibet.

The most famous "thing" about Romania? Nadia Comaneci, in 1976 Olympics at Montreal (in your country), at age 14, she was the 1st girl to ever get a perfect 10.0 in gymnastics and many more later. Over the years, she won nine Olympic medals and four World Artistic Gymnastics Championship medals. She was at that time, the darling of gymnastics of the world. Cheers.

Whoa!! I just watched her performance on KZbin. Her score actually showed a 1.0 because there was only one digit available on the scoreboard... because no one had ever gotten a 10.0 before, so the technology wasn't even prepared for it... wow! Culturally, Romania is part of the Balkans, more so than Central Europe, and even more so than Eastern Europe. The food is mostly Balkan, with some Central European influences and even fewer Eastern European influences. Traditional music is pretty much Balkan. Humor is totally Balkan (that is why many Romanians can click right away with Balkan people such as Serbs and Bulgarians, and understand each other’s jokes easily, whereas they can hold a polite conversation with Central Europeans such as Austrians or Hungarians without that deep connection; and Eastern Europeans like Russians and Poles are so completely foreign, almost impossible to understand). The religion is Balkan, Eastern European, and Central European. Genetically, I understand Romanians are closer to other Balkan people as far as Macedonia and Croatia. And the closest people to Romanians are pockets of Vlachs throughout the Balkans - none in Central or Eastern Europe.
@latze743 жыл бұрын
@@cv5w I wholeheartedly agree! Culturally we are Balkans to the bone marrow: clothing, music, food, customs, bad and good habits, frame of mind. For reasons that have always escaped my understanding, many of our ppl don't like the idea, but like it or not, that's how it is.

Bram Stoker behaved as Jules Vernes and wanted to make his readers travel in their minds to Romania, which was very inaccessible at his time. He wanted to talk about the castles, historic figures, vampire myth, montain landscapes. The result was a literary masterpiece. He got though a few things wrong : for example Vlad tepes castle is actually in Targoviste not Bistrita as Stoker wrote; Dracula could have not navigated on boat on the Siret river to Bucharest because simply it doesn't flow through the city.

@Vorraboms I agree. Im romanian and I grew up knowing that i am Balkan lol. It sounds weird to thinking of Romania as central european. Makes no sense. @Vorraboms you just described a Romanian from the south… we’re not the same all over the country by no means. In Transylvania that behaviour is seen as bad and shameful for example
@dacian_13462 жыл бұрын
@Vorraboms it’s not hard to believe since in the states only southern Romanians immigrated or mostly them, Moldovans immigrated in Italy and Spain and people from Transylvania hardy left the country since the region is developed enough to stop emigration.first of all Romania is not Balkan and it’s not small differences lmao… we have completely different history in 2000 years, we have completely different architecture, culture and habits… we also have different genetics and each person from each region is easily identifiable sine we all look different. In southern Romania they have Balkan dna and are mostly with dark eyes, dark hair and olive skin, Moldovans looks straight up like Slavs and Russians and people from Transylvania are genetically Germanic. For example I live in Italy but I’m form Transylvania and I’ve NEVER met anyone form Transylvania in 22 years here, only moldovans and some vlahs but they’re completely different from each other so you can distinguish them pretty easily.

As a matter of fact,Backpack seams to know a little about travel restrictions in Romania and EU. Romania imposes quarantine according to the country you come from. If the country has many cases,it is considered in red area and Romania requests either a PCR test or a vaccine to not stay in quarantine. Bulgaria is the only country which doesn't request anything. A vaccination certificate is useful if you travel in EU,in Italy,Greece,Denmark for example it is required. You don't have to also get a PCR test. Catalin is wrong about Romania geographically being part of the Balkans. The northern border of the Balkan Peninsula is the river Danube. So if you look at the map only the south eastern part (known as Dobrogea) is part of the Balkans. Culturally, there are some influences, mostly in the south and east because the otomans played a role in the history of the country. In general, the Balkans are considered a mess because of the multiple ethnic groups fighting each other. From this perspective, Romania is pretty homogeneous. But I agree with him that in general, Romania is not considered strictly part of the balkans. Because it isn’t. Let’s say that it is 30 percent ;)

@@JetLagWarriors Geographically speaking, only the region of Dobrogea is part of the Balkanic Peninsula! Therefore we are not a balkan country. Culturally tho, you probably couldnt tell us appart from any of our brothers in the region unless we dressed traditionally or started talking 😉

Internet is cheap and fast in Romania because of lack of regulations after the fall of Communism. Basically, since entrepreneurship was forbidden by communists, there were no rules regarding wired communication networks and there were very little rules regarding public property like light poles. People started creating small local networks offering cable tv, internet and pirated software, games and movies, dragging wires between apartment blocks. It was like the wild west, an underground economy were tax evasion was the rule, with cutthroat competition, rising speeds and decreasing prices, just google "wires Bucharest" and see some pictures. As time went by, the more successful networks begun merging and/or acquiring competitors, and some pretty big companies appeared. Some were acquired by large telecom companies when they began investing in Romania (Orange, Vodafone, Deutsche Telekom), others still survive independent (the largest being Digi Communications, that started in Timisoara and Brasov, and now has expanded in Hungary, Italy and Spain en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Digi_Communications ).

Canada unfortunately sucks when it comes to internet speed and very expensive services for what they offer I was shocked when I came to Canada from Romania being used to a different level of services. Especially that Canada is such a big and developed country. It really sucks to pay 80 $/ month for 10 GB or less for a phone internet plan 😤. And I think it should be more competition when it comes to phone companies. There's no competition and is an monopoly, just two big companies, doing what they want.

I had my 1st internet connection in 1997 , via phone modem , by RDS-RCS. I had the 1st PC Computer in C-ta with a Voodoo graphic board. Was quite expensive at the time . The son of a friend was tutoring my daughter , she was 10 at the time , on how to use Windows. He was in the 10th grade , but was already capable to take control remote and do whatever needed to be done with our computer . By the way, on his 1st year at university , he was making enough money from computer graphics and creating sites that he didn't need parents support anymore. On 2nd year , he was already recruited by some USA company. Considering Odobleja's contribution at worlds cybernetics , maybe we are ... naturals on computing ? It is our inquisitive nature , to doubt everything , that is maybe helping.

Speaking about the Balkans and Russia not being considered Europe, perceptions are changing throughout history. For example, during the 19th century, Romania was considered almost as being a full oriental place, to which now it has no more connections, other than some Turkish-influenced dishes. Love your videos, by the way!

That local Romanian guy is sort right about EU/BALKAN geography but like Russia is a great mass of earth spread over mostly northern Asia known as Eurasia it borders with Europe so whatever it borders with is generally considered like European or Europe. Geographic facts:- Russia is the biggest country in the world and sits in the biggest continent in the world ‘Asia’.

Let's clarify on Dracula Castle ( Bran ) . I can see in so many postings so unreal info. Vlad Tepes , was framed by some of his nobles. His cousin , Mathew Corvin was king of Hungary. The nobles concocted a fake letter from , supposedly Vlad , to Ottoman Sultan , for a supposed alliance against Hungary. Mathew was , of course , really pissed and called Vlad to a meeting to explain . It was a trap to arrest him and , being a royal you can't place him in a normal prison , put him under house arrest in Bran Castle . For some years :-) . The castle was the property of the Brasov guilds , subjects of Mathew . Finally the truth surfaced and Vlad was released .

Geographically speaking, RO is the only country exactly in S-E Europe. Dobrogea (the most eastern part of RO, towards the Black Sea) is the only part considered to be in the Balkanic Peninsula. The Danube itself is the border.

This guys is completely wrong, Romania is not in the balkans… it’s the south-eastern part that is actually geographically in the Balkan ( Dobrogea ) not Timisoara or banal that are completely unrelated to the balkans and more similar to Central Europe alongside Transylvania. Culturally Muntenia and Oltenia is balkanic too.

Jetlag Warriors, how about telling your adoring fans here in Malaysis how much everything is costing you in Romanian new lei (RON)? It seems 1 new lei is the same as 1 Malaysian ringgit, though I don't know why that should be. If you tell us how many new lei each time instead of euros and dollars, then we'll easily compare that with Malaysian prices and Romania's affordability for us. I must say on the menu at that restaurant yesterday in Timisoara, where you had the stuffed cabbage leaves, polenta etc., it looked quite expensive... around 150 to over 200 new lei per plate... eek!! How much was the Timisoara ale?
@JetLagWarriors3 жыл бұрын
Ah, I think we showed the most expensive page of the menu, inadvertently. Our entire meal was $25 USD. And yes! We can show RON and USD for each price. Not sure why we were showing Euros actually, that's my fault. Our idea is to show the local currency, as well as USD for each price. Thanks for watching and commenting like always Gerard!!
@gerardfernon33393 жыл бұрын
@@JetLagWarriors That's about 100 ringgit, which wouldn't necessarily kill us if we had it just once a week.

@@gerardfernon3339 2 people can eat lunch outside for as low as 40 lei. There are lots of restaurants that offer the so-called "menu of the day" which is just 2 or 3 different options, but costs just 20-25 lei for a person (soup+main course+dessert). I actually had this menu almost daily when I was working in the office (so before Covid).
