Mike and I noticed the same thing - poatan's glutes are of another realm . ⚡ I've been to many bodybuilding and powerlifting events in the past, and very few of them can relate to what Alex carries. Impressive considering his training doesn't consist much of heavy compounds. Not the average kickboxer structure. Hopefully he stays in the 205 . He will do great damage in that division

I was impressed w Alex while Jan had his back. He looked pretty composed and most importantly he survived it. Many have fairly questioned Alex's ability in grappling and it's tough for me to think of many better tests than having fresh, dry Jan on your back for most of 1st rd. Excited for Alex next fight. Great breakdown
@donnyrockett7490
@donnyrockett7490 Жыл бұрын
I think with how hittable Jiri is, and was even stunned by Glover & Reyes, I think Alex could very well KO Jiri to become the 205 pound Champ and then Izzy come back up to 205 and they settle the trilogy there. I think that's what the UFC wants personally. I don't know what the hell Alex was talking about going back down to 185. That would be crazy. That should be his contingency plan if he loses for the belt at 205. But he should definitely go for the belt next at 205 & if he wins, I see the Izzy trilogy happening there. It makes the fight bigger bc now Alex has accomplished what Izzy previously came up short at which was becoming a 2 weight Champ and it would also be the trilogy but also the trilogy for Izzy to try to become a 2 weight Champ and Alex being the one to try to keep that from happening. I think in a fight that already has huge stakes, it just adds to them
@dylbaaags__992
@dylbaaags__992 Жыл бұрын
Well said man agree, only part I don’t is Izzy going up, I feel like Alex will go down. We all know Izzy can beat Alex now of course but if you had to pick best out of etc it is 3-1 to Alex so they are always tough fights for Izzy, tough for Alex but obvs mainly Izzy. Now Izzy fighting Alex at 205 with more energy and power and being 226 on the day yeh nah hahaha no way!, and I think Alex knows that, which is why we will go down to meet Izzy plus Alex is trying to do heaps before he retires aswell so him going down will give him the opportunity do be a double champ aswell
@donnyrockett7490
@donnyrockett7490 Жыл бұрын
@dylbaaags__992 yea that's true. But I was just thinking about the fact that Izzy has said his aspirations at 205 aren't over. But even at 185, the size difference almost doesn't even seem fair so you make a good point. I just know someone who is friends w a cutman behind the scenes and they said Alex even seemed to struggle to make 205. They said he rushed to get fluids down and seemed extremely weak. Now maybe he just underestimated the cut to 205 bc he's got to 185 every time he's been contracted to but man just seems that one of these cuts especially when he isn't young at all in fighting years, is destined to fail and also can't be ideal for performing a day later. He was freaking massive at 205. It's insane.
@dylbaaags__992
@dylbaaags__992 Жыл бұрын
@@donnyrockett7490 yeh man I get you aswell Izzy going up and I think he will but he’s not stupid there’s being brave and stuff and there’s being a retard knowing how big Alex was at 185 then fighting him at 205 which like you said he even struggles to get to that(insane) that’s just not where you’d fight the guy. Crazy man like I paused the vid of Alex and jan at the weigh ins, Alex dwarfed him! I can’t believe that guy makes 185 hahaha
@donnyrockett7490
@donnyrockett7490 Жыл бұрын
@dylbaaags__992 also Alex was talking about his next fight being at 185 which seems crazy to me when he's probably in line to fight for the vacant belt at 205 right now. I personally think that he should use 185 as a contingency plan in case he loses the title fight at 205. But I personally think he would be smarter if he does win the 205 belt next, to try to summon Izzy up to 205. To me it will be Izzys choice given his star power and Izzy has aspirations of being a two weight Champ as well and unlike us, we see things for what they are and know Izzys best chance is probably sucking Alex dry back down to 205 but Izzy believes in himself and isn't going to have the same thoughts that we do bc fighters by nature kind of have to be a bit delusional in order to maintain that crazy confidence in themselves and Alex could already become a Champ Champ (Just not simultaneously) and to stick it to Izzy, he could also be the reason that Izzy wasn't able to accomplish the same but I guess we will see how it plays out. I just don't think Alex would be smart to fight at 185 again unless he has to and especially not before fighting for the 205 pound belt

Alex is in a great position where even if he loses to Izzy, he can go straight up to 205 and fight someone for the title or vice versa. He basically has 2 title shots on his hands. What would immediately cement him as GOAT would be beating Izzy, winning the LHW belt & then fighting Jon at HW lol

I honestly think his leanness is the key to his ability to cut so much weight. You store a lot of water in your muscles; if you retain a high level of musculature, you can cut quite a lot of additional water weight. Just a thought, feel free to tell me how wrong I am in the replies 😂

I reckon alex has at least a good chance of getting the belt next. I still think jiri should be a small favorite against him cuz he is much more of a proven quantity in mma and we know he is proficient with his grappling but i think its a 55-45 kinda fight with jiri as a small favorite. Pereira will have a hard time against ankalaev cuz he has hands down the best wrestling in the division but other than that, he has the skillsets to beat or have a competitive fight with anyone in the top 10.

I think Pereira needs to be more active. His takedown and ground defence looked good against Blachowicz and he was easily in control for rounds 2 & 3. But I actually thought he lost round 3 just by being so inactive. This is just my layman speculation obviously, but it looked like he was overly cautious about the takedown - even once he'd proven he could deal with them _and_ Jan was exhausted - and didn't let loose when he should have to decisively take round 3.

Idk what anyone saw in that fight that made it seem like he’s going to smoke everyone, in fact Jan should have trusted his kickboxing for the first 2 rounds because they were very very close on the feet and Jan was absolutely landing nasty shots on Alex.

I need a deeper breakdown next time mike, if it’s possible for you to play actual footage and pick things out that would be ideal. Nonetheless good video but definitely room for improvement.

If they keep Alex away from Ankalaev he stands a very good chance but I think JIRI is the toughest test for anyone at 205 at present so that’s the fight I wanna see

Absolutely he can do it ... He should not go down ... Maybe Izzy should go up.
