I have been watching other channels where people are renovating old buildings. Somehow they get their hands on all kinds of equipment to make the jobs easier, like clamps to hold wood down, electric saws, hole diggers, etc. It amazes me that you can do all you do with handsaws and flat shovels, although you do have some power tools. I'm now 75, but in my youth, I also had to do "man's jobs" using equipment I had on hand. I thought of it as doing it "a woman's way", a lot more thought and strategy was involved when you couldn't muscle something in place, like a 300 lb wood stove, without scratching the new floor (I rolled it on dowels). I love the way you think. Your channel shows the world how you can accomplish anything by adapting and working with your strengths.

Your woodshed is a smart interlocking and therefore sturdy design. Well done! If you don't like the black numbers showing in the middle support post, why not paint the whole structure the same colour as the cabin? Then it becomes an integrated part of the little house and contrasts nicely with the firewood. Keep up the good work and show what us women can accomplish 😊

I know the trees where supercute but I'm glad for your guest houses sake that you removed them. They would have made some serious damage on that wall section if you'd let them continue growing. Trees are best left a fair amount of meters away from foundations and Roofs :)
@elisabethbenders-hyde52864 ай бұрын
My instant thought exactly. OH NO, those saplings are too close to the house!!!! Even the little birch at the corner will do damage to your roof in the coming years. Some judicious pruning is in order.
@gregpendrey67114 ай бұрын
An otherwise charming cottage has a fir tree under its corner foundation which is 3 ft. In diameter. Now the house won't sell yet even with a 100K price reduction. 😮
@MrTinothemib4 ай бұрын
The biggest problem for houses and trees, and sometimes certain types of shrubs too, are a few centimeters to 1-2 meters away from the house. Over a long period of time, their entire root network causes the entire foundation of houses to crack and allow houses to sink downwards, over years or all at once! This is because they simply draw in water and groundwater and can grow 10+ meters away from the trunk. If they come across a spot with plenty of sufficient, steady groundwater, for example... the roots then orient themselves there! And if a tree or even several trees are too close to a house, facade or foundation, moisture and water are drawn in and stored by the roots around the foundation and can ultimately cause major damage to the house without you seeing it straight away or suspecting it if you don't know! This is because a single grass seed or dandelion seed under a concrete road can destroy concrete several centimeters thick, i.e. cause cracks from a single plant or seed in the ground, and 15-20cm of concrete above it can break!

Good job Rosie! Perhaps you could put a covering over the ends to keep rain/snow from blowing in. You could even attach a long tarp under the roof edge that would cover the front. When loading or retrieving firewood, just flip the tarp up over the roof for easy access. It's going to be nice seeing your firewood neatly stacked up and that random pile neatly arranged, even though many trips across the yard! Do you have some canning jars you could preserve those plums? A pie this winter would be so tasty, and apples also. This past 2 weeks just flew by, so happy to see you today! Thanks for sharing your days with us, see you soon, hugs!
@thor-leiflundberg98094 ай бұрын
I would say, by experience, that the most important is to cover the wood from above. Still keep the air flowing. No tarp needed. When everything is frozen it doesn’t matter that it comes some snow on the wood. Wood needs airflow. I think it’s done completely correct. I’ve used firewood in Sweden for at least 50 years. Good work!
