Dan: Well, you sure did a great job on editing the video, etc. For example, you got sharked 1x, literally caught a shark a 2nd time, and yet when you FINALLY brought an Ono to the Kayak you took the time and risk to drop underwater a GoPro camera so we could all see that Ono underwater! Awesome! I would have probably been a tad-bit greedy right there and Kage'd that Ono and just 'get him in the boat'. Then, you chose not to Kage that Ono. You went for the tail grab. Interesting, I probably wouldn't have done that either, but I thought it was cool that you chose that way of landing such a magnificent fish. BTW: what was the weight? 35 lbs? I wonder why you use spinning reels rather than conventional (barrel shaped) reels? I ask because if you used a conventional reel, you could hold your rod with your left hand, crank the reel with the right and the then when time to kage your right hand is ready to grab the kage and thrust that spear. Also, if you used a wire leader in addition to the stinger hook wire, would that keep the Ono from cutting you off or does it scare them away? Lastly, I am thinking that a Hobie PA 14 is the way to go. Are you in agreement on that or Big Water 132/133?

You earned that one. There was a lot of “almost” baiting him. You thought you had plenty of baits in the beginning. I bet halfway through you were thinking you should have caught more huh! For the people that do not know ono (wahoo) they have no idea how sharp the edges of those teeth are and how the jaws bypass each other like scissors. So dangerous when they are flopping around with their mouths open or flying out of the water from under a jig or bait. Only fish I know of that can jump clear of the water 30’ straight up.

I made it out of a shovel handle cut down to 3 feet with a 3/8” stainless threaded rod epoxied into the shaft. I then did some deceptive wrapping around the handle using Paracord
