My First Day With Shipt ($60 Bonus For 5 Deliveries)

I have been approved for Shipt for quite a while, but I have never taken a delivery until this video. I have always had questions about the pay and money drivers could earn with the app, so I wanted test out Shipt to make sure it was worth it. I value my time when delivering because I know I can make good money while driving with DoorDash, Uber Eats, and Grubhub, so I knew when I received the ability to receive a $60 bonus for completing five deliveries, this was the best opportunity to experiment with Shipt.
Shipt was a relatively unknown platform for me before taking on this challenge. I quickly watched a few videos on the topic before leaving my house for the day, but I didn't learn too much. I knew I would probably need to shop for items in certain stores so I did my best to accept orders with a low number of items. Overall, I seemed to test out as much as I could so I could learn the platform efficiently by taking orders from Target, CVS, and Party City. I also did my best to describe every order in detail, so you would be helped on your process as a Shipt beginner.

Shipt's a long game. It takes about 150-200 orders to really get a sense of who tips, what zones tip and tip well. Also, you want to get a lot of preferred members as you'll want to only shop for those customers as they're the ones that will tip well and rate you 5 stars. Another thing is to avoid delivery only orders. Those orders don't allow/prompt tips and the only way you'll get a tip is if the customer physically hands you cash when you drop off the orders.

For RX orders, is good you handed it to the costumer. This is the right way to do RX orders, we cannot leave them unattended because of HIPPA issues. If we can’t hand it to the costumer we must return it to the pharmacy and you still get paid.

I. saw another video where the guy said he has increased the number of tips he gets. Apparently the customer doesn't get a "do you want to tip" message until they open the app again. So when he lets them know that the order has been delivered (whether by phone or text) he says something like "I'd really appreciate it if you went back on the app and gave me a great review". Then when they open the app they get the prompt asking if they would like to tip.

That’s a good strategy. I’ve been thinking about texting them at the end of the delivery politely asking for a tip but I haven’t actually done that yet

@@PhoenixDeliveries I think I would try his method first. People are weird and might get turned off by someone coming right out and asking for a tip. Either way, wishing you many good tips in your future! Oh- another tip I saw the shopper said when they are out of something instead of asking if they want a substitution and going through a lengthy process listing choices she just takes a picture of the closest substitute and texts it to them saying "they are out of X would you like Y instead?" That way you save time but the customer feels like they had a choice.

Congrats on adding Shipt! It's a great fill in app and of my 25 deliveries, I think only 4 have been full service shops. Delivery Only (RX and Party City) are the way to go and are especially good with those bonus/challenge opportunities. Tips? I think the Customer has a day or so to add the tip so keep an eye out for that.

@@PhoenixDeliveries Same here with Party City, but when I brought the issue to Shipt - and applied some pressure over 30 days via email/calls - they wound up paying me for one of those "someone else picked up the balloons!" orders.

I'm sure you know this by now, but rX orders cannot tip. In my area we lost the contract for CVS rX orders. Not surprising as they suck and no one takes them.

Best thing to do is take 3 orders at the same store at a time. While your shopping at the store look at open metro and check if there’s an order while your shopping. Tipping can be hit and miss, tipping is based on the total amount of the customers order. Best of luck next time.

This is funny! I know this is 7months ago. i just started ship 2 weeks ago. i did one of those 40 items on a Bashas order for my first order. I got a 25 dollar tip. I got paid a total of 40dollars . Worth it. I was on near tatum and cactus rd. Also people can tip months later. although i would avoid 6.00 target orders, those are less likely to tip

@@lorilethal5618 sounds like a regular Shipt customer. They also like to order multiple cases of water cat litter 30lbs+ large laundry detergent. You will deliver all their heavy items and they won't even tip you. Sad truth.

How do we avoid delivering furniture or appliances on Shipt? Are we able to preview the customer order before we accept the job?

Yes, regular Shipt is not worth it. But.... When it comes to the app. You cannot stack orders until you complete 10. After your first 10, you can literally complete 3 orders in one store. So the 10/hr, turns the 30/hr. If you are organized and preview the list it makes it so much easier. Also the promos help. One Saturday is normally all Party City items. So if there is a Party City Promo you can stack 2-3 and make the bonus in half the time.

You ended up get a little over $20 per order, not bad at all. Some Uber eats delivers that are short distance, they only want to pay the driver $2 !!!! LOL. I decline those.

Just watch out with shipt bonus offers in the future, sometimes it's only good on RX orders or alcohol orders, regular orders won't count, so make sure to read the description of the bonus promo. Hope it goes well for you

@@PhoenixDeliveries yeah I don't do it anymore because the pay isn't close to being worth it, also if someone doesn't tip right away don't worry because costumers can tip you literally at any time, I've received a tip a month after doing a order one time.

I believe what happens with party city orders is customers order like two different times when someone shows up for 1 they just give them both orders. I won't do party city cause that happened 3x to me

Wow Jacob this was a fun video to watch but I know some of those orders were no fun. I feel your pain on that 3rd floor apartment delivery. I had that happen with UE Cornershop with 6 cases of 12 pack waters. I have not taken a cornershop order since!!! I wouldn’t mind the pharmacy ones either though but now I’m not so sure about shipt though lol however I would probably try it for a promo like that but keeping in mind your struggles!!! 😅😅😅

Happy I could help you out a little bit. I just wanted to show my realistic experience. I honestly thought I’d get tipped more for those orders and realized it’s a lot of effort to shop for an order and deliver it only to receive $8. If the pay was better I would love it because it would get me out of the car, but food delivery just makes more sense right now

That's why Cornershop doesn't show the list of items to be shopped, lol. Shipt is bad. Payment is low for all the time you spend on it unless it's a short list of items. I've seen 40+ times batches for 10-12 dollars it's just not right, and by any chance DON'T TAKE the exam to deliver medicines, they are so poorly paid and flood the app with them.

My first day was yesterday $18- 6miles and shopping for 12 items, everything was get untill I got to customer that wanted me to come up stairs on the 5th floor, I called her because and asked her how to get to her apartment..lol I really was asking for help lmbo, she came down to help I gold because she has 2- 12 can sodas. ... just got another ordered from the same place on the 6th floor 34 items I just looked at that ordered and said to myself poor person who ever gets that order...... oh the pay was 9.89 ☹️🥺

@@PhoenixDeliveries there are “thank you cards” another Shipt KZbin creator uses and it has a quick mention of the importance of tipping but I agree I’m not one that likes to ask…I generally always get tipped eventually for shop and deliver orders but pickup only orders are hit or miss…but a good example is I just go a tip last week for a shop I did in January …and same day I shopped an order for the same customer…so my guess they get their groceries and don’t think about it until they open their app again

I've been working on Shipt since March 2020, I'm around 2000 deliveries. For the most part, customers tip within a few days. I've had customers who tip within a few hours, and I've also had a handful of customers who've tipped weeks later after I had already forgotten about them so it's kind of like a nice surprise lol. If they don't remember to do it right after delivery, they're prompted to tip the next time they open the app (usually this is the next time they go to place an order) hence why it could take a few days to a few weeks depending how frequently they place orders.

It is a gamble when you're starting out though because you don't know who's going to tip and who's not. After you've delivered to the same people a few times, you start to recognize who tips and who doesn't which helps in deciding who you're going to shop for and who you wouldn't shop for.

Hey Jacob, how do you report the earnings from all these apps in your annual taxes?

You will need to file a schedule C. On the schedule C will be a place to add each 1099 that you receive. If you have never done self employment taxes it might be better just to have them done bcz there are so many deductions you can take to give you maximum return such as mileage, 179 deduction (depreciation) home office, etc. You wouldn’t want to miss out on any deductions which can be amazing for your returns.
