I've finally upgraded from my old laptop to a new custom built PC. This is a massive step for me as I continue to develop my game project. Thank you to all of my patrons for your continued support!

The first time I built a PC, my heart sunk when I pressed the power button and it wouldn't turn on. Thankfully, I had merely forgotten to plug it in :P

I noticed you have 2 GPUs - In my experience I've found SLI to be troublesome. (Unsure if you are even experimenting with SLI) So unless you're plugging a ton of monitors into your pc (like, using up all the outputs on one of your GPUs and needing more outputs) - if you take out one of those GPUs you will probably save a little bit on electricity and have better airflow (and a backup gpu!)

Yeah so far I haven’t found any reason to keep using SLI. Unreal Engine doesn’t seem to support it… Unless my render times are improved with Blender, I may just stop using two cards.

@@Legend64Project As far as i know, Blender does tend to perform better with SLI. I know someone who models (specifically, ships like the RMS Titanic) and he uses SLI for renders

Nice, congrats! :) I also need to upgrade my computer soon, but I never know what I'm doing, what part is the right size, brand etc. Have never built one from scratch myself, but do have one that is assembled for me - or well - it is assembled and I bought it. :P Looking this stuff up is also very confusing and uninteresting after a while.. mostly because a slight upgrade, even though very moderate, is too expensive. Especially now. But anyway, I do remember upgrading to my current PC, and the feeling of creative freedom was marvelous :D (also I lived/worked very near to that bridge in Amsterdam :P)

I'm always starting retro looking dev project on my small laptop an HP with the integrated Intel graphic card and a weak i5, then when performance are realy needed, and I can't optimize more, I switch to my i7 with a GTX770.

Ah! Is that an issue? Should I raise the tower so it’s not making direct contact with the carpet anymore?

@@Legend64Project your PC is basically a giant box of electricity, and because the carpet is very easily able to conduct static electricity you run the risk of overloading your PC. its generally not safe to keep your tower on a carpet and you should look into keeping it on a grounded surface like a table if you still have it on the carpet.
