I randomly got this as a recommended video, and I didn't feel the 10 minutes pass. It's really inspiring to see someone dedicated to studying / working and using normal / cheap tools to do the job. I've seen too many programmers on KZbin talk about how productive they are on $2000+ tools and how great their expensive laptop is and other similar things. The simplicity in the tools that you use is inspiring.
@blocksource41922 жыл бұрын
I don't know. I'm a teenager who has done programming for a few years, and the workloads that I do from time to time justify my 2 setups. I have a main pc build with a Ryzen 9 5950x and a RTX 3070 ti and then a MBP with the new m1 chip (not m1 max or pro just regular one). I use my laptop for school and portable coding and like making websites and stuff which doesn't require too much CPU/GPU usage or anything. I also make games on it from time to time, but sometimes I need multiple vms running, or servers or I need to render a big model or scene or make a graphically intensive game. I worked for both my mbp and my computer by owning a small business when I was 14 selling computer software. I do get distracted a lot but im looking into maybe doing the productivity and entertainment user stuff as holy shit, based on how productive I was before I got these devices to even work for them, it has all went down.

That monitor though. I kinda of wish I had a non wide monitor kicking around. I like the katakana and hiragana too! Trust me though a Mac is worth every penny I don’t regret it at all. The fact it’s Unix based makes it more similar to Linux than Windows. And the trackpad is just heaven in my opinion because I hate external mice on laptops. I’ve spent less on Mac than I ever did on other hardware. I was always buying new laptops but my Mac has lasted me almost 4 years. It seems more expensive upfront but I save over the long term because I don’t need to keep upgrading the Mac like I did other hardware. Or buying new desktop components adds up very fast. Its easy to not realize how much a new video card, ram, storage adds up to money wise. Not being able to upgrade my Mac has been freeing in a minimalism sense because I’m not constantly wasting time looking at new hardware or spending the money buying said upgrades.
@somusz1597 ай бұрын
Macs are trash just like every laptop nowadays. -no thick magnesium or aluminium chassis -non-repairable (planned obsolescence) -bad keyboard with no travel that feels like prodding metal -runs bloated bsd/xnu -spyware in cpu just like any newer laptop 4 years is not much to be proud of when a lot of 10 year old enterprise laptops still work well (at least for my workflow) on bsd. Touchpads are mostly superfluous, pointing devices should not be a necessity on unix. /rant off

It can also barely handle 4k60 which is kinda nice sometimes. I also just graduated with CPE -> (doin mechatronics shit mostly), CS, PHYS, and MATH, and the most complicated calculations that I do should run on something with a processor from 8 years ago with like 8 to 16 gigs of ram. I really dig it, I love the thinkpads. I have a new thinkpad, 11th Gen Intel(R) Core(TM) i7-11800H @ 2.30GHz 1 TB storage. It's a 16 inch workstation, 3-4 ish pounds. Not heavy but not light. Gonna use it for school (A&M this fall engineering whoop!), and I have a singular monitor I can use with it if I wanted (lenovo q24). I like it, having one laptop for all of school, one monitor that I can use occasionally, and one basic keboard/ mouse. I think anything more like dual monitors, although nice and I have a dual monitor setup at work (where I intern for a Power company as a co-op electrical engineering student) are overkill for just students although some would argue they get better productivity. At work I need two monitors to have emails and multiple spreadsheets/ databases open while I use PSSE software to model power systems, but one at home is excellent. It's so tempting to look at more monitors and stuff, but I'm lucky enough to have one really work-focused nice laptop for it all.

Technically an old laptop with a RAM and SSD upgrade (you DO NOT want to run modern windows with 4gb and an HDD!) is all you really need.. On the apple side 2013 macs even already have 8gb and fast SSDs so you don't even need to upgrade them! Unless you have a specific workload that need a fancy machine, you need nothing more..
@houssamalucad7532 жыл бұрын
Old iphones are pretty solid if you replace the battery (battery life is still miserable so you'll need a powerbank) On the android side you want either something flagship less than 4 years old (still enjoying my S8, only now starting to annoy me with pathetic battery life and occasional lag), or less than 2 years for budget phones. Wired earphones are perfectly fine, I never use my wireless ones unless I'm doing sports actually because I hate having to keep them charged and the sound quality of my wired earphones is pretty good (things like QKZ VK4 is killer for only 10 bucks, and the apple 9$ dongle if you have a new iPhone is pretty good somehow).. You can really save up a ton if you know what you are willing to sacrifice
