Funny enough you should mention taking a holiday, from the whole being attached thing. That has been the primary reason I've hesitated switching to a pump, and scanner. For me I fear, it would be a constant reminder of my condition. I don't want to feel like a cyborg. lol. Also, I have a bit of a mistrust of techie things. With a pen, I know it's a mechanical device, which I control and can also visibly monitory the plunger moving in the vile, as I'm injecting the insulin. With a pump, I think I'd always be questioning whether it's functioning properly, and pushing the correct dose of insulin through the tube, and then into me. I'm sure a lack of knowledge is in part driving my reluctance and skepticism. I do however, understand and appreciate, there is an adjustment period, as with all new things in life. :-) When you do take a holiday, do you find your insulin/carb ratio remains similar to previous holidays, or when coming off a pump, do you find it's kind of like starting anew? I remember from a previous video, you mentioned you found you were a bit more insulin sensitive on the pump, but I can't remember if that was due in part to becoming vegan, and a change in physical activity? I'll have to find and re-watch that video! :-) Sorry Andrea, that was a very looong comment!!!

I hear you on wanting to have the control through a pen - totally hear you and completely get it! You gotta do what’s right for you! I have to say, when I take a holiday nowadays, since being on the pump for so long, I find it incredibly hard to get into a routine of dosing and leveling out. I find my self far more up and down and with a LOT more lows. I guess the longer I was off the pump the more I’d be able to work to balance that better, but yea, it’s definitely a rollercoaster and that makes taking a pump holiday a lot less attractive these days, I must say...😬

That's a great idea actually! Thank you for sharing this! If and when I take my next insulin pump holiday I will absolutely be factoring this in - thank you! :-)

can I ask why you took a pump holiday?

Hello Gaz! I took a pump holiday (and do occasionally) because I get very weary of being constantly ‘attached’ to something. So I take a break from my pump to give me a little space from that attachment and then reattach when I’m ready. It may not work for everything, but it really works for me in terms of keeping a level head and not getting to ‘burnt out’ :-)

@@ShesDiabetic yeah I get where your coming from I've been on the pump for 3 year and not taken a pump holiday, I choose not to as I'm a chef and my control is terrible on mdi with daily work loads being different.
