I bought 2 Ford Lightnings in September. One for myself (mostly for work) and a Pro for my Employee to help with daily operations on our small Wireless ISP. They are great trucks. The employee truck is driven around 150 miles a day and it's already saving us quite a bit in fuel. I'm not sure what our very rural customers would think of the Cybertruck pulling up to their homes. I kinda like that the F150s are almost a 'Stealth' EV. I'm sure by the time we could get one, they will be all over the place though. They look pretty cool though for sure!

@@nthused I would suspect at least for now that they would think we are charging too much for the service if we pulled up in one. With the lightnings, we've only had 1 or 2 that outright despised EVs and had their standard laundry list ready for my employee (Batteries, fire, child labor, coal etc etc). Otherwise most haven't even noticed as it looks like a regular F150 at first. My employee absolutely loves the truck especially since he doesn't have to stop for fuel anymore.

I saw the truck today in Chicago. It is cooler in person than in pics and videos. I agree with Alyssa that it seems more a museum piece than a truck, but I’m very excited about it. I too noticed the conspicuous window seals in the front side windows. On such a design centered automobile, seeing something so mundane in your face takes something away. I still dig it though. Another funky detail I noticed is where the horizontal dash meets the part that angles up. In this truck, there seemed to be warping and a generally a messy transition. This may only be noticeable from two specific angles. Something I think is cool but makes it more like an art piece than a truck is the stainless panels on the far rear sides. Viewed from the rear and through the gap, you can see the red marker light reflected on the backside of those panels. It’s almost like the panel is more of a mounted shield versus a tightly abutted body panel. I’m super excited for this truck and the event this week. I’m particularly interested in which motor variants are available immediately.

Sure the official price and features arent announced yet, but people already have a pretty good idea. The chief designer and elon have both stated: people will want this for the vast utility and we already know a ball park price. This is gonna blow every pickup truck out of the water.

To answer your question about steering wheels diving by wire: Under US law there has to be a physical connection between the steering wheel and road wheels. Thus car manufacturers in the past had to redesign cars for the US market. Eg Porsche is a prime example - they had to redesign the car for the USA market so it was a few years late and an extra 10k to 30k more (or something like that) But the way the law is written and car designs have been allowed on the roads in the USA that physical connection could be as good as a piece of string or normally a very under-engineered piece of steel rod or thin pieces of flat steel fitted together as in the Porsche

I definitely do not like the style but I’m sure a lot of people do. It doesn’t seem like it will be useful for current truck owners to switch to. Like Alissa mentioned with the ladder rack not really working out. Trucks have had the same design for years because it works. But for people who don’t need a truck for truck use, I’m sure they’ll think otherwise

The things i am curious on are how well the stainless steel holds uo to midwest winters and road salt, and how those back windows will do with snow.... The frame back there is so wide it seems like a prime spot for snow to collect and build up on, could have quite the snow drift sitting there. For that matter, i wonder how easily the headlights down low will get blocked by snow.... Hopefully they added some heating elements or something to keep those clear. And of course, I need to see if they got their "bullet proof" glass working... The entire reason i want one of these is so I can watch hail and rocks bounce off of it and laugh, instead of worrying about having to get my windshield swapped out every time a truck chucks a rock at me on the road.

It will hold up much better than your typical car that's made from cold rolled steel, which needs so much anti-corrosion coatings and will rust as soon as it sees any kind of salt at all. Stainless steel does not rust. It will withstand winters and salt way better.

Although cybertruck design is unlike anything else on the road, people will get used to them. Just like the 2nd gen prius(2004-2009), everyone will complain about how ugly they are, and just like Toyota, Tesla will sell millions of them, and people will still call them ugly, but it won't be a big deal cause they'll be everywhere. Excited to see efficiency compared to F150 Lightning, Chevy Silverado work truck, R1T, etc.

Many people will never get over its looks and will refuse to consider getting a Cybertruck. That’s perfectly okay. That will still leave plenty of prospective customers for the Cybertruck. Tesla doesn’t need to convert everyone to generate millions of sales and drawing tons of traditional truck owners away from the Big Three.

The Cyber truck has received more online hate than I’ve ever seen in a vehicle. People go out of their way to comment on how much they do not like it. The join cycles truck groups to hate on it. As a Prius driver I still get a tiny bit of hate for my car but hardly ever any more. People get used to things and they become normalized. This will happen with the cybertruck too but there are definitely some who will hate it forever because they don’t like Elon, or electric cars, or unique designs.

I went to the Bellevue, Washington store yesterday to see the Cybertruck. The mall and the store were both packed. The Cybertruck fit and finish looks fantastic - much better than the prototype that was at the Gigafactory for the shareholder meeting in May of this year. Looking forward to seeing the inside. Overall, I think this is going to be a home run for Tesla. Regarding the plastic panels under the bed, I think that’s part of the under-bed storage area. Yes it reduces departure angle while off-roading, but I personally think the extra storage space is a better value than raw off-roading capability. Just my 2¢. My wife hates it, says she won't be caught dead in that thing The only place I have to keep it is on the street (rather not, and cannot in winter when snow clearing is in effect) or in a wider part of the driveway right in front of the house, or at the top of the drive way in front of the garage door. I think that's where it will go so I can install charging without having to spend a fortune pulling wire. But it's going somewhere, she can walk if she likes, I'm going to enjoy my CYBRTRC plates.

From the very first view, and every view afterward, my first thought is how much cooler this would be if it were substantially smaller.

I have one reserved. I am excited for it, but it needs to be high range for me. Needs to make 420KM on one charge while in -20C Canadian weather. The trip is also through a mountain range. So, I was excited to see 500-mile range when they first showed it. However, I am starting to get worried that will not be the range on the 3-motor variant.

Commenting before getting to the cybertruck: it is gonna be an epic winter "self driving" experience in these cars without ultrasonic sensors and radars. ;)

Well, i like it. I wash a vehicle every week to keep stains from affecting the paint. This is my dream truck to never have to worry about keeping it so clean. Also, no worries about dings. Yes, if i can afford it, I'll be redeeming my reservation.

Yeah, supposedly there's one on display at Santana Row shopping center in San Jose, CA. Just come up on 880 and get off at Steven's Creek Blvd., and go west a couple of blocks.

Pain in the ass to check tire pressures? Looks like you need to remove the "hubcap". Also the tire has been molded with the hubcap in mind? How will it look with aftermarket tires?

Number 1 future mod for the Cyber truck: People will trim the back area to make the bed sides flat/level. (Ease of access and lumber racks.)

A rail rack for the slanting haunch rails of the CT won’t be a problem, my current Ridgeline has height adjustable racks and my prior ridgeline had racks made to fit the slanting rails of the pre 2017 ridgeline. The problem with the slanting rails is when you have stuff in the bed like when camping or whatever it gets real hard to reach into the bed near the front. I’m 6’4” and it was a problem for me. What would have been nice would have been an integrated step like what Rivian did. You can also get steps that fit over the wheel. The worst problem with the slanting rail is that it creates a huge blind spot, this can be a real problem when merging.

At 09:12, the car locking itself while you're standing beside it is one of my bigger Tesla pet peeves. Really wish it could wait until I'm at least 10 feet away before locking.

Is it possible to lock yourself out?
@BitJam

@@mikedsjrIt autolocks because of the phone key which usually autounlocks as well. But I try to always keep a spare key card and a spare ring key with me just in case. The danger is if the phone dies or gets destroyed after it autolocks. There is built in hysteresis which caused the inconvenience Kyle experienced.

If I know I'm about to get right back in (as you do when supercharging), I often only let the door close to the first "click" for exactly this reason. Keeps most of the HVAC in, but no possibility of auto-locking on me.

Yep. It is not possible to unplug the car, hang up the charger, and get in before it locks again. I’ve tried so many times.

I have made a request to Tesla to have a user-configurable autolock delay, which would allow drivers to vary the delay to an amount of time that suits their circumstances and use pattern. I don’t suppose they will regard this as a high priority but it should be a relatively easy fix for them to add this functionality.

It's interesting hearing a Tesla having a potential charging cable issue with the V3 Superchargers since so many non-Teslas had a similar issue due to the charging port location being on the opposite side. Anything that could expedite the V4 transition is a win in my book.
