*Real Story*: This band is truly authentic, real and just kindest band you will ever ever meet. I was dog sitting for a couple who went to their meet and greet. I'm a HUGE Shinedown fan but wished them a good time and watched their dog. The woman I was dog sitting for facetimed me, I thought looking for an update, but it turned out to be Zach (Shinedown's guitarist if you didn't know). My jaw hit the floor and he was like, 'Hey, how are you!" He straight up had a wonderful convo with me and goes, "Why aren't you here man?" In the midst of me holding back happy tears I replied, "Because I'm a broke college student! Haha." He turned to the woman who I was dog sitting for and I heard him go, "She's dog sitting for you tonight?" She nodded back at him. He turned back to me and goes, "You know what? The next time we're in your area, I got your ticket! And you can come see us!" *Commence tears* I couldn't thank him enough and he was like no tears! No tears! Haha. Sure enough a day or 2 later he DMs me on twitter saying ticket was all set and I told him again how thankful I was and he told me it was no big deal and thanked me so much for being a big fan and supporter. The day comes and I head to the concert and I walked up to the lady by security and awkwardly was like "Soooooo Zach said he has my ticket..." Felt so awkward saying this lmao. The lady said "Name?" Told her my name and she goes, "Oh yes! It's written right here, one moment!" It felt like on TV where you see people get into the club on the VIP list. She walks away and comes back with passes and tickets in her hand! "One meet and greet pass and one early access GA ticket!" Once again, MY JAW HIT THE FLOOR. I legit said to her, "My whats?!" It was real. Head into the meet and greet and I expected the usual, you run up, say hi, take a picture and leave. Shiendown's M&Gs are so much better. You form a semi circle and each of the band members walks around and meets you individually. They'll sign merch and just chat with you! Every single band member was the sweetest. Brent (lead singer) even asked what my favorite song was because he said he'd add it to the setlist just so I could hear it (And yes he did play it!). When I finally met Zach ofc my tears started flowing and he was like "No tears!!! No tears!!" He gave me the biggest of hugs. Before the M&G they tell you no pictures while they meet everyone, only pictures after when you do a full band photo, but Zach turns around and legit said, "Nah F it can someone help take a photo of us." So there's a pic of me semi crying face with Zach hugging me that night and it's my favorite photo!! I told him how thankful I was and couldn't believe he'd done this for me. He told me I was hardworking and to keep up that hard work in school for my future. He also told me he was very thankful for the fans and how my support meant the world to them. He's so straight up and honest and one of the nicest people I've ever met. After meeting everyone, we took our photos with the band (1 casual and 1 silly ^.^) and then I got early access GA so I was right at the barricade before the stage. Absolutely was the BEST concert of my entire life and after the show Zach gave me his guitar pick :'). This band really is something else

As someone who is an avid rock listener, I must say he's below average. Let's see the best rock singer, is most definitely Freddie Mercury... Then it's probably Ville Valo or Lauri Ylönen, if it's for the harder sound then it's most definitely Tomi Petteri Putaansuu... If it's then Death Metal then it's a bit harder to say but Matthias Lillmåns... Other greats include Serj Tankian and Daron Malakian. There are many really good voices in rock but Brent is kind of meh in comparison to a lot of Rock genre singers of the male variety.

Speaking about Monsters, Shinedown frontman Brent Smith said: “Everyone who knows a bit of my background with regard to substance abuse and alcoholism knows that I've battled with it. It's something I deal with on a daily basis. I’ve always been very honest about it, which is that I didn't do drugs today - and I didn't drink today - but I don't know what I'll do tomorrow, because I literally have to take it day by day. "I never went to rehab, I didn't do a 12-step programme, and I don't talk about sobriety unless I'm asked about it. Even then, I don't spend much time on it because I literally live my life day by day. That's how I have to do it, but the dynamic in the song is not just about substance abuse. It's about a lot of different situations that people get put in because they have things in their mind that - for whatever reason - they used to sabotage themselves. "They don't know why they do it, but they do it, and these are the monsters that I'm talking about: those voices that say, 'I know this is going to be really fucked up after it's over with, but let's do it anyway.' That's the sentiment in the song, when I sing that my monsters are real and they're trained to kill."

This song, & most of this album, has to deal with anxiety, depression, addiction, & the struggles of mental illness. The song GET UP (that's actually how they titled it, I'm not trying to yell lol) is about one of the band members dealing with his depression & Brent Smith, the singer, made the song for him. This one, MONSTERS, talks about how those with mental illness walk around with a mask, a fake smile, & "fool everybody", and we don't realize that by not dealing with our illness, we "hurt everyone". To others, the voices & the fears & the symptoms are just that, symptoms. But to us, the ones with the illness, these monsters are real, & they can kill while they laugh at how we feel.

What I'm not thrilled about is this song comes out after several artists died by supposed OD. There were a few songs focussed on that subject but the timing is horrible.

You talked about the energy of the song in just a video, which, I agree, is present, BUT if you really want to experience the energy of this band, you MUST see them live. A Shinedown show is an experience. I have never felt so much positive energy in one place as I have when I have seen Shinedown in concert. 🖤💛

The album Attention Attention is a concept album. It tells a story. It's mostly songs about their singer Brent and their bassist Eric struggles. Brent's struggles with addiction and through recovery and Eric's journey with his severe depression. The entire album is a story and there will soon be a video for every song on the album and they all connect, they'll probably release everything as a movie once it's done. That may be why the story of this video seems so all over the place because there is more to come. Honestly I'd love to see you react to any of their songs but find some live videos, Brent is an amazing singer live. I listen to Shinedown every single day and can tell you despite what people out there say, he absolutely does not lip sync, it's 100% talent. It's obvious to the daily listener and to people that have seen them love multiple times. So glad you enjoyed it ❤️ 🤘

You can not go wrong with any of Shinedown's music, Brent Smith has come a long way and should be respected for his battles he has overcome. If you get a chance, I am sure you will not be disappointed. Some of my favorites are Cut the Cord, Simpleman, 45, Sound of Madness and many more!
@mindyphillips2605 жыл бұрын
Shinedown is amazing and you mostly got the interpretation right. The song is about self sabotage. Before I read the interview about the song I interpreted as about suicide. This whole album is about struggling with mental illness and hitting rock bottom before rising up again. It's one of their best. "the dynamic in the song is not just about substance abuse. It's about a lot of different situations that people get put in because they have things in their mind that - for whatever reason - they used to sabotage themselves. They don't know why they do it, but they do it, and these are the monsters that I'm talking about: those voices that say, 'I know this is going to be really fucked up after it's over with, but let's do it anyway.' That's the sentiment in the song, when I sing that my monsters are real and they're trained to kill."

Pay attention to the woman in the video. While her husband was in the war and got killed, she was screwing the guy at the funeral that touched her shoulder. And the girl was hiding under her bed from her father( he was her monster), then, while still at the funeral, the woman takes her ring off and tossed it in the grave with the man she cheated on. And then it showed her with the same guy from the funeral. That's what he meant when he said "You Fooled Everybody" at the beginning. Everybody thought she loved her husband, but she didn't. That's what I took from this.

SO glad you finally checked out Shinedown and liked them! I think the song had the bass players thoughts and recent experiences behind it. He went through a rough period of depression and most of the albums lyrics are inspired by the darkness Eric bass, the bassist, experienced. The whole album is sad to know the lyrics are what he and others go through but it’s so good at the same time. Almost bittersweet. So I guess you could look at it in different perspectives, one being having a fake side on social media and the other having demons your constantly fighting.
