Brilliant John, you got a cracking night to try something new and the results are really good. The shots of the van are definitely album photos, and the 360 shots, well, I could have expected the Enterprise to materialise out of warp speed in a couple of them. From one MC1R gene carrier to another, well done 👏 👋🇬🇧🇪🇺🇺🇦🇮🇪🧑🦰

Great pictures, shows what perseverance can achieve 👍 the use of a tripod or similar is critical, securing the camera makes such a big difference.

Fantastic, very timely for us as we’ve just bought a telescope for optical stargazing and a SeeStar S50 for photography. However, I do like the idea of landscapes and stars and seeing what you were able to do with the iPhone is inspiring.

Well done John, some great pictures. Amazing what a phone can do these days. I've taken similar photos with my iPhone 15 Pro and have been delighted. Looks like a good parkup for that kind of thing.

Nice night photos. I’ve always had best results using my iPhone on an tripod for night photos, I tried a few with a EOS 90D in summer out in Greece but couldn’t get the results the same, user error for sure. Would be interesting to see a concise how-to with a decent camera. I’d always resisted mounting the insta360 to the roof as I assumed it would move to much with me in the van but that doesn’t seem too be the case!
@GadgetJohnАй бұрын
The sad truth is the iPhone is just so easy, though I’d imagine once you know what setting to dial into a regular camera that’d be easy too. The 360 x4 has really good stabilisation but I spent most of my time outside the van as the star lapse was running, in fact you can just about see me in the video
@overlandvanАй бұрын
@ I think that’s the key difference, I don’t need to dial an iPhone in, just select long exposure and take the photo. Results from a decent camera would be way better but I’m just shooting for insta really so no need to go mad. I’d love to find out what settings I should be playing with though as my resorts weren’t great. I can’t persuade Kelly to stand outside that long in the cold and dark 😅😆

Love the iPhone photos and the start of your new videos. How’s the insulation working in your van
@GadgetJohnАй бұрын
The insulation is great, with a 2kw heater it’s more than enough.

If you are serious about night photography, you need to invest in an equatorial mount.
