In the most emotional conversation of my lifetime
We have flipped the script this week
I’ve asked one of my truly dearest friends, Jamie Kern Lima, to GUEST HOST the show and interview ME about my highly anticipated new book, THE POWER OF ONE MORE, coming out June 1. (You can pre-order now).
As you might guess, Jamie knows me really well, so not only am I fielding some questions that only Jamie knows to ask, I’m also going to REVEAL things I’ve never told anyone before, publicly or privately.
Nothing was off the table!
Jamie and I are going to give you a big sneak peek on some of the things you’ll read in my new book, THE POWER OF ONE MORE, coming out of June 1.
I WROTE THIS BOOK TO HONOR MY DAD. He was a KIND AND LOVING MAN who battled alcohol addiction early in my life. Throughout the years, my dad became the person who had the most profound influence on my life. After he beat his addiction, for 35 years, HE TAUGHT ME LESSONS, many of which are in the book… lessons that I still use to this day.
I wasn’t expecting her to ask me about what I struggled with the most growing up. I had to think about it and like a lot of people I know, I had to fight through so many kinds of CONSTANT FEAR.
Fear I wouldn’t fit in. Fear that I wasn’t good enough. Fear that I’d be found out as an imposter. Fear my dad would get hurt while he was drinking, or God forbid, he would accidentally hurt someone else.
I’m also going to tell you how I’ve leveraged a life full of ONE MORES to become successful.
I’m especially grateful to Jamie for asking me about HOW MY DAD SPENT HIS LAST DAYS and what I learned after he passed that a huge impact on me.
I hope there are no rules about shedding a few tears on your own show because I definitely broke them...
Let’s just say when I get to the end of my life, I’m praying that I turn out to be half the man my father was.
This week’s guest host unpacked a lot in the 90 minutes we spent together. THANK YOU, JAMIE… my friend who got me to say things I never thought I would.

I haven't drank alcohol in 8 years, because I use the principle of not drinking for "One More Day", and the years continue to add up. So, the part at 42:15 really hit home for me. I like how Ed adapted the same principle his Dad used, of not quitting for "One More day", so he could keep himself going. Very inspiring! Thank you 🙏🙏

@@EdMylettShow my pleasure brother. And thank you for your reply. Im rethinking many aspects of my life now. 1. Where do I really want to focus my next 50 years, 2. Letting go of all my insecurities inspite of all I have achieved so far, 3. Naming and nailing those negative self-destructive thoughts and habits, 4. Renew my God relationship, 5. The way forward with Success Growth Academy, 6. What 1-more can I do in all areas of my life, 7. Getting back into active dreaming of what I truly want for my life as that part is so dormant, 8. Stop being selfish to not putting myself out there like I used to be because of my fear of my goodness being used and tramped upon and people taking advantage of my success.

Both my parents where alcoholists, but my father remained sober for the last 20 years of his life and was chairman of the local AA and helped many women and men as well to stay sober. Thanks to you I look at my father in a different, more loving way and realize he did his humble part to change lives as well! Thank you so much to show your vulnerability! It is incredibly helpful in my growth to find someone on this level because so many are just so different on the surface than they truly are inside. Ed or anyone from this team who reads this, I have to say that one of the reasons (among many) that I relate, and love Ed is at the very end when Jamie is promoting his book, you can see his shoulders rise and him get uncomfortable with someone shining the light on him. You can truly see that Ed is the type of man who is more comfortable shining a light on others and praising others than having him be the center of attention. I believe the reason he is so good at his talks is not because he is boasting but because he is talking because he feels he can help someone else's light shine brighter. Thank you for you being you Ed.

As a parent I absolutely agree with this. I let my daughters see my failures and successes. I have broken down in front of them several times. I remember (I think on one of your podcasts) Robin Sharma saying "Potential unexpressed turns to pain." As a parent I have consistently told my kids, school has no bearing on your success in life. Everything I learned to be successful did NOT come from school. They have seen me working on the business I had with their Dad. And now as a divorced single parent they have seen me struggle to start my own business in sales. I told them when I pass away my only hope is that they follow their dreams. I want them to find out and use the gifts God gave them to help the most amount of people they can. There is such a need in these times for support and encouragement. People need your inspiration. Thank you for being vulnerable and emotional.

When you talk about the importance of dreaming during the day, it made me think about the missed opportunities when we quickly grab for our phones to entertain us. If we just let ourselves dream in the down times, what a difference that would make! I’m going to let myself dream more! As a school teacher, when you talked about the big impact your 3rd grade teacher, Mrs. Smith made on your life, it reminded me of the big impact and ripple effect us teachers have on our students! 💕 I’m looking forward to reading this book!

I’m in the middle of watching/taking in this interview. I’m already blown away at HOW MUCH I can relate to YOU. “FEAR” is the biggest thing I deal with DAILY!! 🙏😭 I never would’ve ever guessed Ed that FEAR is something that impacts YOU so much as well. Also you sharing being “labeled” as a kid & how that effects us, it sticks with us. I too know that contributed to a lot of my insecurities, but also actually helped me gain strength eventually. I’m not done watching this yet & already SO MUCH is hitting me PERSONALLY. Hearing you talk about how the loss of a parent changes you has tears rolling down my eyes & HITS MY HEART so deeply. I lost my baby brother 3 wks after turning only 8yrs old. That I remember VIVIDLY STILL now as an adult. Then losing both my mom & sister unexpectedly 4yrs ago exactly 1 month apart to the exact DATE. & “7” more family members since. I have a real FEAR of LOSING PEOPLE I LOVE. It started at only 8 yrs old & now has gotten worse obviously with all these recent deaths. I cannot let it paralyze me. As you said in a previous interview, “Time to take the floatys off, YOU CAN BE THE ONE!!” God has ALWAYS been the reason I haven’t given up. I see your biggest growth honestly Ed is your personal WALK WITH GOD. I relate to you even more these past couple years as you’re closer to God & I can literally FEEL IT IN MY SPIRIT. I’m an EMPATH & this is my greatest gift. It can be a curse too, but the benefits of this gift definitely outweigh the bad. I could write a book about all of this & my life. I have the most AMAZING friend who’s an author who pushes/inspires/supports me. I hope in my lifetime I get to have a real full conversation with you Ed. I hope it’s part of God’s plan. I met Michael Jackson many years ago & treasure that & would love to meet you. You have IMPACTED my life & my HEART. God bless you & THANK YOU SO MUCH. 🙏❤️🙏♾ #MAXOUT P.S. I was voted “shyest/quietest” girl in junior high. We have A LOT in common!! I’m crying right now. I literally CAN FEEL EVERY WORD you said, reading the part about your Dad in your book. 🙏🙏🙏😭 Now I see why I connect so much with you spiritually. Wow. Be a “FORCE OF LOVE” This is me LOVE is the GREATEST gift.

Wow! Thank you Ed for your willingness to be so vulnerable like this. Such a powerful interview and really helped me. My father passed from suicide when I was 9 and mother at 27 from cancer like your dad. I too am still navigating fear like you outlined. The comforting words from our creator that came to me after my mothers passing was “thy will be done”. It is inspiring to hear you have received similar guidance along your journey. I also love your “be the one” analogy. I feel that way in my family as well. Thank you again! 🙏

The number one thing I appreciate about Ed is him being relatable and transparent. That fear thing is real…feeling like “I’ll never be good enough”. Has been something I’ve struggled with a long time. Im 34…His willingness to be vulnerable has already helped me cause i know I’m not the only one who feels like “I’m not good enough” watching this again!!!

Wow, I am so looking forward to listening to this interview on my daily walk! I have read many amazing books written by people you have had on your show. I am especially looking forward to reading your new book "The Power of One More"(which I just ordered now!)! I grew up in a dysfunctional family and am still working on removing some of the skeletons in my closet and my PTSD. Your show helps me with that a lot. I would also like to write a book and hope I can be persistent enough and believe in myself in order to accomplish this goal. Ed, you are by far one of my favorite gurus of self development and self confidence! I enjoy your interviews immensely, learn tons from them, and especially this time when Jamie Kern Lima (I also ordered her book) Is interviewing you! Thank you Ed for all you do to improve people's quality of life and to create a better world to live in! Thank you Jamie you are such an inspiration to women worldwide! #MAXOUT from Israel
