He was 19 years old. In the original recording his voice was higher pitched. His voice matured as he aged but only added to his voice. But here is 1968 and he’s 14 years older. Yes Elvis could always play guitar 🎸

Elvis's Mother bought him his first guitar for his birthday in 1946 when he was only 11 yrs old. He played that same guitar through high school and in the early part of his career. He also played piano and drums.

Look for hound dog on the Milton Burrell show or Elvis on the Tommy Dorsey show and you’ll see Elvis at 18 or around that age singing. It’s on KZbin all right take care my friend.

Hound dog I have heard but it may be worth watching anyway, I haven't ever seen it performed before.

That clip is from the '68 Comeback Special, aired on NBC. Elvis was coming off 8 or 9 years of doing movies and was hoping to revive his musical career and get back to live shows. (He had a lot riding on that special.) On stage with him were 2 of his original band members, Scotty Moore and DJ Fontana. Elvis played guitar and piano, but I think you're remarking on Scotty Moore's picking. Many guitarists were influenced by Scotty Moore, who said he was doing nothing much special, nothing more than “filling in holes”, but he was too modest; he left his own legacy in shaping and changing music culture. He was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2000. It's a shame the way things turned out for the original band members with Elvis. They - especially Scotty Moore - contributed so much to his sound.

The original recording of That’s All Right Mama, recorded in July 1954 at Sun Studios in Memphis, was the first song by Elvis played on the radio. The switchboard lit up almost straight away and the DJ, Dewey Phillips, just kept playing it. Dewey asked someone to get Elvis to come into the studio that very same evening. One of the first questions Dewey asked Elvis was to confirm he went to Humes High School, an all white school in the segregated South, because most listeners who phoned in thought Elvis was a black singer. The song was a local hit. Elvis got his first national, and international hit, with Heartbreak Hotel, recorded at the first recording session for his new record label, RCA, in January 1956.

Here is Elvis on another sun Studio track from 1955. He is a bit more polished on this track and showing his abikity to make a song his own at such an early age (only 20 at the time). kzbin.info/www/bejne/pJvaY6J4bdSFitU

Elvis is probably not given enough respect for his guitar playing. Elvis’ lead guitarist was Scotty Moore, seen here playing the electric guitar. Scotty influenced many other guitar players such as the Rolling Stones’ Keith Richards. According to Scotty and other guitarist, Elvis was one of the best rhythm guitarists of his time. Later in this sit down session, Elvis swaps “axes” with Scotty and you can hear Elvis’ lead guitar work (check out Elvis’ Baby, What You Want Me To Do). During the recording session for Jailhouse Rock Elvis slap bass player, Bill Black was struggling to master the electric bass. During the recording of (You’re So Square) Baby I Don’t Care, Bill stormed out. Elvis picked up Bill’s electric bass, sat by himself in the corner for a few minutes and then continued the recording session playing the bass himself. Elvis had never played bass professionally before that. A natural, I guess.

Responding to both comments. There are few people that are just naturals with any instrument they pick up. Thank you for the information, it humanizes the process to get some personal background of the artist I'm reacting to.
