RIP to the legendary Cliff Burton 🙏😥 That man was a genius, he still lives on in the heart of every Metallica fan!! I also want to give Jason and Robert the recognition they deserve, My Friend Of Misery remains in my Top 3 Metallica songs because of Jason's bassline and Rob is a beast on the bass (and a loveable personality as well). I wish the importance of the bass as an instrument wasn't soo downplayed in metal, a catchy bassline or even a bass solo can take a great song and make it a masterpiece!

I agree that the bass is often overlooked, but it adds so much to a band's sound. And the bass across Master of Puppets is absolutely incredible! Cliff Burton was so talented, I looked him up after I filmed this reaction and realized he passed away, and at such a young age too.

6:40 Yes. We all get that same feeling and expression. The creepiness of The Thing That Should No Be really fits the subject matter which is all an homage to the works of H.P. Lovecraft. They had that grunge sound before Grunge existed and some of the grunge guys were surely influenced by Metallica. Part of it comes from the fact that the song is played tuned down to D, instead of the standard E. Disposable Heroes is militaristic because it is about soldiers being sent to the meat grinder of the front lines. The sounds at the beginning of Damage Inc. is a guitar. It is done by rolling the volume knob on the guitar up and down, fading it in and out. As fast as they play, James Hetfield played with all downpicks, no alternate picking, which makes it even more impressive.

Oh on the favorite song note, you have to watch The Thing That Should Not Be from Seatle 89. The whole show was probably the greatest in Metallica's history. But on this song in particular they were possessed.

11:12 If you really want an experience, find an original pressing of the LP for Master of Puppets. The lead in is about 4 or 5 seconds. Put yourself in the mindset of someone listening to this for the first time ever in 1986, and they just flipped the Pizza and are waiting for whats next, and Disposable Heros comes through the already cranked headphones, or speakers. Just, wow!

This album has a whole lot of different themes, that as you said revolve around trying to break free from a “master” or higher figure. MoP is about drugs and how they can control you. Sanitarium is about mental health and, again, the control is has over you. Disposable Heroes is about needless wars festered in propaganda by our governments. There are definitely more in other songs but those are ones I remember off the top of my head. You really hit the nail on the head with your synopsis’s in these videos, you clearly know music :)

Yeah, I really love how they made this album so cohesive thematically with the lyrics. Even though the tracks all touch on different topics they all tie in with the mindset of setting yourself free from someone/something.

Ohhhh, what a banger. Pun intended maybe? Dunno. RIP to Cliff Burton. So sad to lose any musician, let alone one who was only 24 and had so much potential as he did. It's a tragedy. My favs off this album are Thing That Should Not Be, Disposable Heroes, Damage Inc is cool, and of course, Orion. Such chill, chill Orion. Cliff's masterpiece.

I know, the bass on this album is something else. I had to look up their bassist after I filmed the reaction because it stood out so much, only to read that Cliff Burton passed away before the release of their next album. He was such an incredible musician, I will have to see how their sound will progress as a band without him on their subsequent albums.

Honestly I'm kinda surprised you hadn't heard the song Master Of Puppets before lol, but I'm so glad you enjoyed this album, this has gotta be my favorite from them. Orion is an absolute masterpiece, Cliff was a phenomenal bass player. Up next is ...And Justice For All, I'm sure you'll love that one! 🤘

The greatest metal album of all time (in my not so humble opinion) also features the greatest metal bassist of all time- Cliff Burton. I really enjoy your reactions, they breathe new life into some old classics

An album without a weak song. Legendary Orion, which made Cliff immortal. Oh man, all those shifts and changes of speed leading to the most heavy moments Metallica ever brought on the table. What a joy to hear those songs, even though I know every note for decades now. Welcome home is one of their best songs they have don and not getting all the buzz like puppets or battery.

Arguably Metallicas best album everyone has their personal favorites but usually it’s between ride the lightning , master and justice

From other side of musical spectrum I suggest - Cut Copy -"In Ghost Colours" and Animal Collective - "Merriweather Post Pavilion"

Before you react to ...And Justice For All, don't forget to react to The $5.98 E.P. - Garage Days Re-Revisited. That was my introduction to Metallica. I borrowed it on cassette tape from a friend during my sophomore year in High School. After the passing of original bassist Cliff Burton, it was an EP to break in the new bassist Jason Newstead.
