I saw them live when they were touring for this album. Here in Baltimore which is his home town. It was the most intense hardcore show I've been to, and he breathed fire. I remember the liquid falling on our faces because we were in the front row. They got fined like 10 grand because indoor pyro had been banned because of the Great White show burning down.

One of my favorite albums of all time. My first time seeing them live was on the tour for this one. It was a 19+ show and I was 18 at the time. Greg himself actually snuck me in through the side loading doors. Top notch gent and their set was insane. Definitely an experience I'll never forget. I loved Greg's vocals on Miss Machine, but I think he didn't really find his own identity until their later work. He very much leans into the Mike Patton style on MM, and I remember a lot of criticism surrounding that at the time of release.
@mollyesanborn2 жыл бұрын

What a cool memory to have of that show! I saw them just the one time, seventeen years ago this month it was. I looked it up and saw that it was at Neumos in Seattle, where they were supported by Between the Buried and Me (who I became of fan of because of their performance). There were a couple of other bands opening, as well, but that was quite the intense show with BTBAM and DEP. You nailed it, insane is the perfect description for their set!

Every one of their albums is great, but this is probably my favorite. It's the most Dillinger Dillinger album, the craziness and chaotic changes are turned up to eleven and I like how the production is a bit messier than their later ones. Thanks for being one of the few folks on to check them out, I get why they're not most people's cup of tea, but there's things their music makes you feel that no one else can if you're willing to get use to how abrasive the vocals can be.

Yo Molly, the algorithm led me to your Deftones reactions. After exploring some of the other bands that you have enjoyed I felt the urge to recc some of my all-time faves. Most feature mult aspects that you bring up frequently -- atmosphere, surprise, heaviness, vocals that skillfully alternate between heavy and melodic. Without further ado: Poison the Well's "You Come Before You," Norma Jean's "Wrongdoers," Greyhaven's "Empty Black," Rolo Tomassi's "Grievances," Fear Before the March of Flames' "Always Open Mouth," and less heavy but probably the most atmospheric of this bunch I'd suggest Failure's "Fantastic Planet." These are the starting point albums I'd give you, the ones that would be most helpful to decide further exploration. By no means do I recc these for reaction vids -- most are prob not popular enough to really drive clicks -- but they are def worth a try based on your overlap with my taste. Cheers!
