Experimental metal?! The goats?! Not even of "normal" metal. No bro, don't say that to anyone who has a decent knowledge of music, and specifically metal, if you don't want to be embarrassed by other people. only issues with the album are the abundance of marching snares in several songs (dying song, chapel town rag, hivemind, warranty) they're good-great songs, just hurt by marching snares and Jay could have done a altered verse-beat for hivemind, the verse beat he uses is the same as all out life (the blasts are amazing though), . Also, Hivemind uses a riff from Irresponsible hate anthem by Marilyn Manson and the main part of H377 is a part from Warhead by Otep, part from these little things, it's a good album and GREAT video as always Molly. This album has started to grow on me the more I've listened to it. Adderall caught me completely off guard. Kind of gave me Pink Floyd vibes. But it's actually one of my favorite tracks off of the album and it really sets the tone well. Molly, if you fan of NIИ you must be interesting what Trent Reznor said about band Talking Heads and their 'Remain in Light' album from 1980 as his favourite album of all time: "One of my absolutely favorite records is Remain In Light by the Talking Heads. It is an album I didn’t understand when I listened to it for the first time in the beginning of the 80s. Back then, I was living in a rural small-town that was widely cut off from interesting culture. And then suddenly this album landed. A strange, synthetic, polyrhytmical piece of art with African influences which confused me in every way. With good albums it is the case that at the beginning you don’t know what you are actually dealing with. But you are fascinated by it, and with about six listens it slowly reveals itself to you. With the 10th listen you are completely thrilled, but even when you listen for the 30th time you still discover something new. Remain In Light taught me that. The record enlightened and changed me. It showed me what music can do, how song structures can look like, or how drum parts can interact with other parts. Since I started making music myself, this wonderful album has been something I can always consult. The great thing is that the record can still be approached from so many different directions without losing its puzzles."

As someone who has spent the past 40+ years listening to the type of music you've been uncovering for the past year, it's fun to watch someone become aware of "good music" & let others see their experience of listening to them for a first time. Your take on them is pretty spot-on...even though a lot of the music often takes listening to a few times and some familiarity with it, before fully getting the depth and full experience. Somehow you manage to nail it right off the bat. Makes me wonder if you've cheated and taken a listen prior to your videos? haha! The fact you have Metric included is pretty amazing. Regardless...Everyone always seems to have suggestions on what to do next. So I'll give you a recommendation of something give a try to listen to, video review or not. Dreamcatcher. Here's a short list of what I think you might end up liking, although if you end up knowing who each member is, you'll then find yourself liking everything they've done and will do: No More, Don't Light My Fire, Good Night, Breaking Out, DejaVu, My Way, Break The Wall, Sahara...Just to name a few. Most of those are B-sides & so their Title-Tracks are a whole other category. They are coming out with a new release in the next day or so. Or not. 🤨

Have a random suggestion for you to listen to. The albums are written to listen to it all the way through because the songs feed into each other. Russian Circles...either "Memorial" or "Station" since they are everywhere on those records. "Geneva' is heavier if you want that.

I was impressed by this album. They added so many new elements but still sounds like Slipknot, well... With the exception of the 1st track which doesn't sound like them at all (but still good)
@mollyesanborn2 жыл бұрын
Haha yeah Adderall was quite different. I honestly wouldn't hate a whole album from them that sounds like that.

This might be one of the weaker Slipknot albums overall, but that says more about the quality of past albums than it does anything bad about this one. I love it on its own merits, but it's hard to follow up WANYK. That one just came out a perfect time on multiple levels personally, but this one does some stuff I like better, some I don't, I'm just glad we still get new Slipknot. Great video as always btw 🤘🤘

Yeah, overall their entire discography is pretty killer. Hard to pick a least favorite album, especially when they go in a different direction stylistically on each one. We Are Not Your Kind is pretty hard to follow up though, I'd say Slipknot delivered a very admirable effort on The End, So Far.

If you want dive deeper in metal - pay attention on Flotsam And Jetsam band, on any of their albums, but that say about their debut Slipknot's guitarist and songwriter Mick Thomson: “The speed of the songs and stuff like She Took An Axe, which is a song about [1892 suspected axe murderer] Lizzie Borden are really fast and it sets an aggressive mindset which is good for a work-out. You can’t go wrong with either of the first two Flotsam & Jetsam albums.” (that he said in article 'Slipknot's Mick Thomson: 10 albums that changed my life' in Metal Hammer)

Thanks for the suggestion! I'd definitely like to get into some other metal bands now that I've finished with Slipknot.

First time I've listened to this album, I do not have a strong opinion on it. I feel like I have to listen to it several times for it to grow on me! It's hard accepting new music when it's a bit overwhelming, but that's the experience of being a maggot is going back to the old albums and listening to those niche/underrated songs then you realize 'Hey this sounds good!'.

Another great video Molly! I'd love to see you do a first time listening video for the Manic Street Preachers' 'The Holy Bible' album - it's steeped in mythos, given their guitarist and primary lyricist for the album completely disappeared shortly after the album was released - never been seen since. It's got a very aggressive post-punk sound with lyrical themes ranging from anorexia to prostitution and the holocaust. Would love to see your impressions! Cheers and keep up the great work!

Talking about electronic sounds, would you be willing to react to some electronic music? Namely, I would suggest the biggest electronic album of all time, The Fat Of The Land by The Prodigy, which was released 25 years ago and hit Number 1 on the album charts in over 20 European countries as well as in the US. You might have actually heard a fraction of it, as one of the tracks was part of The Matrix soundtrack and it was played during one of the fairly significant scenes in the movie. Btw, The Prodigy are friends with Corey Taylor who was recently a special guest for one of their shows during their UK tour. I wish they would collaborate with him, considering that they have already collaborated with musicians such as Tom Morello of Rage Against The Machine and Dave Grohl of Foo Fighters.

The only song I wasn’t a really fan of on this album was Heirloom. Because despite all the help from the other members, it still felt like 30/30-150 from Stone Sour, Corey’s other band that Jim Root, one of the guitarists for Slipknot, was a part of. I’m not saying it’s a bad song, but it made me REALLY think of the stone sour song and not a slipknot song
@mollyesanborn2 жыл бұрын
Interesting to hear that! I've not heard anything from Stone Sour but Heirloom was the only track on this album that was kinda lackluster for me as well. I'll have to do some videos for Stone Sour now and see what I think of their music.

Audioslave self titled record is one of the greatest alternative rock albums from the 21st century. It's basically Rage Against the Machine members + Chris Cornell as the vocalist, I hope you react to it one day! :')

The song Aderall reminds me of Radiohead for some reason. It sounds vaguely like something that would be on their album ‘Ok Computer..’

I've listened to all but the last 4 songs so far.. honestly sounds like a Slipknot album with some Stone Sour moments.. like a lot of them actually.. that's what kinda surprises me about the love for Yen.. the verses of Yen are practically a carbon copy of Influence of a Drowsy God from the House of Gold and Bones Pt 1.. which was a little weird for me honestly.. but it is a good song.. but that's probably why there may be some hate from longtime fans because they tend to not like Stone Sour sound lol.. I personally like both.. in fact I favor Stone Sour myself.. but anyways good album so far!
