I remember first hearing this album and I was so shocked. The band all being well into their 40s and sounding like this, making their heaviest record since Iowa. An absolutely amazing record. From the intensity of Critical Darling to the catchy harmonies of Spiders, I think I'd rank this one in my Top 3 with the Self Titled & Iowa.

Words cannot express how much I love this album, I've never looked forward to an album more than in the lead up to this coming out and it absolutely exceeded my expectations. I wrote a massive review of this record a couple years ago but I'll try to keep it brief. Everything we've ever seen from Slipknot is turned up to 10, it's got the heaviest riffs, the weirdest soundscapes, the slickest cohesion, Corey's best and most contrasting vocals and lyrics. Unsainted, Nero Forte, Critical Darling and Solway Firth are all top 10 Knot songs for me, but every track is perfect to me, be it a dynamite song or a gorgeous transition track (I'd include My Pain). I love that's it's cyclical with 'I'm counting all the killers'. I'm sure there are some qualities I'm forgetting because there are so many elements of this record to love. I basically have it as equal to the debut, it might as well be the best album ever. It's that good. WHAT'S THIS
@mollyesanborn2 жыл бұрын
I agree wholeheartedly. It's a perfect album imo. No skips, nothing sounds out of place either. And you're right about their being a lot of weird sounds and unexpected portions to this album but it works fantastically in emphasizing the creepy atmosphere of this record. If I ever do a Slipknot album ranking video I'd be curious to see where this one lands, cause it's certainly up there with Iowa and self titled.

I love this album, and honestly, I don't see what some people don't like about it. The flow between tracks is immaculate and it balances the intensity of Iowa and risk taking elements of Vol. 3 perfectly. Sure, it isn't the heaviest thing in the world, but it doesn't need to be. They're all pushing 50, they either get old and mellow out a little into a more artistic direction or the more depressing option, they don't get older.

@@everyonelovesmajima My grip is the mixing and production, to my ears it is generic and the song writing feels off. There is also less bass on this record. If you ever want to listen to some hardcore that sounds like nu metal it’s one of the best out there honestly. It’s also really cool to see someone take to Slipknot given how much different they are than they were in their heyday so to speak. The turntables and extra percussion snippets add so many new layers to their songs it’s truly so so unique. Seeing how open minded you are about so many different genres is awesome, a very cool trait to have!

For me, it's 6th place among their 6 albums (excluding MFKR). I've listened to all 6 over 30 times each so some have grown on me. My first exposure was AHIG, and I feel I enjoy more tracks on it than WANYK, but just by a couple. For Self-Titled, I love every track, including the demos and bonus tracks! (ESPECIALLY Scissors and Prosthetics) Same for Iowa, but I'm more often in the mood for ST than Iowa. The Gray Chapter is SO underrated! I love almost every track, especially Sarcastrophe, Skeptic, and If Rain Is What You Want. Vol. 3 took several listens to appreciate, but surprisingly I like it now, ESPECIALLY The Virus of Life. That's one of my favourite songs of Slipknot! For WANYK, I feel the first 4 tracks are somewhat weak, and I don't get the hype for Unsainted. Do people like it because they were introduced to Slipknot with it? Not sure, but I wish All Out Life could have replaced it. For AHIG, I like most of it, with Gematria, Wherein Lies Continue, All Hope Is Gone, and 'Til We Die as highlights. To summarize, psychotic Slipknot is my favourite side of them to hear. 1. Slipknot 2. Iowa 3. .5 The Gray Chapter 4. Vol. 3: The Subliminal Verses 5. All Hope is Gone 6. We Are Not Your Kind

One thing that stands out to me on this album is the interludes, the way they created the interludes and made them transition from one track to another is perfect. It captures a perfect dark mood. An interesting fact about this album is that "My Pain" is actually a song from a side project called "Look Outside Your Window" recorded in 2008 during the All Hope is Gone sessions by 4 members of the band (Corey, Shawn, Sid and Jim) in a house near the main studio. This album is still about to be released and according to them, it sounds like Radiohead.

This album is easily their best since vol. 3. I agree that I love the electronic/sci Fi/futuristic/horror feel that you described this album of having. Makes it stand out from other Slipknot albums. I can't wait for the new album when it drops! \m/ And after that, you should look up slipknot's demo album called Mate. Feed. Kill. Repeat. It was released in 1996 and not only had fewer members at the time, but Corey was not in the band yet. It's quite something to listen to. Regardless, I think you should go buy yourself a Slipknot shirt and declare yourself a maggot. \m/ One more thing. Here's a few albums I recommend for you: Marilyn Manson - Antichrist Superstar Disturbed - The Sickness Rob Zombie - Hellbilly Deluxe Bring Me the Horizon - Sempiternal Killswitch Engage - The End of Heartache My Chemical Romance - Three Cheers for Sweet Revenge

This album is indeed fantastic. You know a Vol. 3 is a very polarizing album that split Slipknot fans, and as a fan of both the Vol 3/All Hope Is Gones sound and their older Iowa and self titled sound I thought this album kind of marries both styles of more heavy and more melodic sound. I really enjoyed it. Strangely my friend whole loves Vol 3 and AHIG didn't like it much, which confused me lol Bur my favs were Unsainted, Nero Forte, Orphan, Not Long For This World, and Spiders. Nero Forte in particular really surprised me with its chorus, which was just a breath of fresh air and was awesome and somehow fit such a fast paced song.
@TheJokesterSCR2 жыл бұрын
Unsainted, Birth of the Cruel, A Liar's Funeral, Nero Forte, Not Long for This World, and Solway Firth were all amazing tracks. Orphan is okay, but I feel it's overrated since it somewhat resemblesThe Heretic Anthem, but it's nowhere near as good. Songs like Insert Coin and What's Next are completely pointless. Then songs such as Death Because of Death, Spiders, and My Pain are painfully awful. It's like half of the album is awesome and the other half is terrible, in my opinion. So, I totally understand why your friend didn't care for it much.
@theCrownofSympathy2 жыл бұрын
I'm with your friend on that one. I love Vol. 3. AHIG is okay and has a few songs that I love. This album is the worst to me, it's the first one for me to not own a physical copy of. I can barely tolerate listening to this whole way through. There's a few decent songs, but too many cheesy moments and unnecessary filler. I'm also not fond of the super polished production, I like Slipknot to sound a bit more dirty and raw than this.

The only thing I think it's worth criticizing about this record is the absence of the song with the album's title, All Out Life. I remember it being one of my favorite by the band and I wish it was on the official release track list. Other than that, I genuinely feel this one is on par with their first album and only behind Iowa, such a great record. The the full-on aggressiveness returned but the melodic and atmospheric aspects remained and it blended incredibly well with the help of the electronic side. It is also very experimental I feel, songs like Spiders and A Liar's Funeral are a great departure of their previous sounds (in my opinion) to travel through newer stuff and it is very well implemented. Also, Red Flag might as well be my favorite from this record overall, followed by A Liar's Funeral and Solway Firth

I would love to see you react to mad seasons above album Layne stayle is one of the vocalist last album he was ever apart of before his passing it's a true masterpiece from beginning to end

I love the aesthetics of this album, without a doubt for me it is the best Slipknot album together with The Subliminal Verses. My god, Not Long For This World, Nero Forte, Spiders, My Pain, Critical Darling are masterpieces and some of them are very underrated

Now's the time for me to recommend clipping.'s latest two albums, There Existed an Addiction to Blood and Visions of Bodies Being Burned. Lots in store with their sound.

Your reactions were great! Love the channel. You should check out MFKR as well! (with their previous singer)

No offense, your face looks funny, your reactions. I like it. It seems like you're having fun. That's great.

Electronic x 23 Aggression x 12 Transition x 6 Atmospheric x 5 Futuristic x 5 Smooth x 5 Movie x 4 Cinematic x 4 Heavy x 4 Cohesion x 3 Percussion x 3 Industrial x 3 Clean x 3 Speedy x 3 Corey's vocals x 3 ;) And this videos winner by a country mile: Electronic!! 🎉 Do you plan on doing a reflection video as to which is your current favourite Slipknot album or even thoughts upon re-listenings months later. It would be interesting to see what tracks climbed the ladder and which you gave the "Slip', if any. Always fun tuning in Molly, if ever you want some band/album suggestions that are UK based and maybe are less on the radar over there then give me a shout!

Haha, these comments always give me a good chuckle and also make me slightly embarrassed of my vocabulary. I certainly have my favorite words, don't I. But yeah a reflection video is a nice idea, I might do what I did for my Deftones series and finish it up with a Slipknot album ranking video when I'm done. Then I can go over/review each album and list my favorite to least favorite in one video. I'll definitely think about doing that!

@@mollyesanborn Don't be embarrassed, it is easy to stick to what is familiar and comfortable. You should lean into it and have a counter on the screen when editing for the main contenders ;) Channel evolution is never a bad thing. I forgot about your Deftones list, good idea. I have only really seen one or two other channels that do re-listens, it is always interesting to see if opinions change after a while. There was another channel that I saw where they listened to a Tool album but tried it in three different scenarios to see if each offered a better experience: Once whilst jogging, once whilst skating and then at home (I believe). I found that was kind of a unique approach.

Fuck yeah! That was a great finisher. I haven’t smiled in years! This album might be their best. Not Long For This World is perfect. Unsainted is badass. Great video, Molly!

“The greatest conclusion that I ever had Is when I woke up, said “That’s enough!” Living never felt so bad.” - Not Long for This World Also… you should do Corey’s other projects Stone Sour and CMFT.

Ive been a slipknot fan my entire life. and for me at least this album gives iowa and subliminal (my two fav albums) a run for their money. The little slipknot fan in me doesnt wanna give it the title of my favorite album by them, if not ever, but boy does this album have beauty to it. I love everything about it, and no other album has spoken to me more in my life. I FUCKING LOVE THIS ALBUM.

Side note "my pain" was written by clown, his daughter died of an overdose right before this album started.

Please just listen to Alice in Chains whole discography. It's fall season and perfect for a deep dive into grunge. So many great bands, Temple of the Dog, Mad Season, Nirvana, Pearl Jam, Soundgarden, Stone Temple Pilots, etc.

What an album honestly! Have you ever heard Sleep Token? They're such a vibe. Very chill with some heavy sections throughout. This Place Will Become Your Tomb is pretty incredible

I have heard This Place Will Become Your Tomb, great album! I do have to check out more from Sleep Token's discography though, I don't believe I've heard anything from Sundowning.
@Banterlope2 жыл бұрын
@@mollyesanborn It really is! Sundowning definitely feels a lot more expeimental. But the album itself is also fantastic. The deluxe edition of the album has some pretty rad covers, and some great stripped-back versions of their songs.
