Just an update for you all since I was pretty uncertain of this album during my first listen. Since filming I’ve really been getting into Untouchables even though it goes in a pretty different direction with its sound. I think I’m getting used to hearing this side to Korn’s music. My favorite tracks at the moment would have to be Blame, Hollow Life, Thoughtless, Embrace, I’m Hiding and No One’s There.

I was just literally thinking "I wonder when Molly will review Untouchables", then bam, you upload. With regards to this album, you're not alone. All Korn fans at the time held the same consternation when this album came out -- it's quite the departure from their 90s sound. They almost become a different band from here on out.

Here to Stay was so ridiculously popular when it came out. Charting in over 10 countries in their top Singles charts. For such a heavy Metal song, this was a crazy achievement for any band. And Korn continued to be so damn successful.

This is probably one of the biggest growers, the immaculate production is one thing, but I also feel like the songs , especially certain specific ones have pretty interesting structures which makes it a grower.

This album cost 2 million dollars to make and the quality shows in the perfection of the sound. When Here to Stay premiered on MTV it played from 0000 until 0500 continually. I watched it for all 5 hours! It's very different and so many people hated it at the time as it has a different vocal style in many places.

Jonathan said a bunch of times that this album is where he finally got to do what he was trying to do vocally over the first couple of albums, he got to do it fully here. which started during the recording of issues, pretty much the start of him being sober

This is my most favourite album by KoЯn. I really love the guitar tone. I think Jonathan Davis used his voice to it's full potential on this album. There are some high vocals and also nice raspy parts. During recording He really sang the vocals many times until it was perfect. They rarely play songs from this album except Here to Stay, Alone I Break and Thoughtless, because the songs are so complex and composed of many elements which can't be accurately replicated live. Also some parts are too high to sing for Jonathan and in others He struggles to catch a breath. But the atmosphere of this album is excellent. They worked on it for 3 years and I think it showed. But when they released it in 2002 (in 10 days this album will be exactly 20 years old) it didn't sell that well compared to Follow the leader or Issues (In USA, FtL sold 5 million copies, Issues 3 million copies and Untouchables 1.4 million copies). Sometimes I'm not sure whether my number 1 KoЯn album is Untouchables or Issues since both are really great, but I would say long-term it's probably Untouchables.

this is probably my favorite Korn album, the up tempo tracks had some awesome groove to them, courtesy of Fieldys bass...I liked how they ventured into newer ground, Alone I Break for example, as well as the inclusion of electronica, without anything sounding forced, and still retaining their signature Korn sound...thanks by the way Molly, I was watching this on my phone with headphones, on the train, and I laughed out loud when you unintentionally said "pop Korn" ...as usual, great review..I haven't heard much from Korn past this point, so I'm looking forward to seeing your future Korn videos

With Issues this is my fav from them. Untouchables set the footprint for their modern sound. But in 2000's two members left the band, so their next releases are much more different than their first albums, the sound is more darker, experimental and industrial. But 15 years latter the sound from Issues/Untouchables returned for three consecutive albums.

I'm one of those fans that hated this album. I don't hate it anymore but I don't like it either. I feel like old Korn fans (like me, OG from 94) just didn't jive with the super over produced sound and the predictable song structure and JDs vocals. I love their first two albums and have a nostalgic spot for ftl and issues but I completely jumped ship with Untouchables. I like stuff from most of the albums that followed but have been disappointed for the most part.

Musically I prefer the previous Albums. But this one has a special place in my heart, because I bought it on my birthday as a teen and at that time I felt like crap emotionally, even got into tons of arguments with my mother (with which I have and had an awesome relationship otherwise). I blasted this Album for weeks and it helped me through this low in my life. Thats also why I cant really listen to it anymore, it directly connects to these feelings I had. Soundwise its quite a dark, moody and melancholic album, with tons of electric elements. It also introduced Jonathans new vocal style, which is quite different. Partly with how they mixed it, but also with how he chooses to use his voice general. Overall I think this and Take a look in the Mirror are the last good/decent Korn albums.

I like and appreciate all their albums. Untouchables, Take a Look, and Issues are my three favorites from the older times. However their last 3 albums are pretty great! I didn't listen much to KoRn iii, and Path of Totality, not because I didn't like them but I simply just moved on to other artist during those times. I've managed to listen to those other albums over the last fee years and came to love and enjoy them as well. However the older albums will always be in rotation in my mind. I play Untouachables when i need a really good cry.

Thoughtless was a big radio hit. People overlook having a single that goes big when a band already has a handful of albums out, and what that can do for a their career and longevity. Sure, there are people that absolutely loved the first couple albums. But I bet there are as many or more Korn fans that got into them during this time rather than when they were first coming out.

2:52 No, it's a guitar with a lot of effects :) Guitar sounds which are heavily modulated by effects are a trademark of KoЯn and I think it's most utilized on this album (although present on majority of other albums). The intro to Make Believe or Hating, the bridge of Here to Stay, Embrace, Alone I Break or Thoughtless and the entirety of Hollow Life, One More Time or Wake up the Hate are all proofs of very unconventional and unique way of using the electric guitar.

From what I've read this album the reason why it sounds so much more polished than the other albums is because around this time of new way of recording came around And also before this album the singer Jonathan took vocal lessons so this is when his vocals became bigger and grander and they added electronics to this album which is Johnson Davis's favorite type of music

Even though Untouchables is definitely not Korn's best album, it's probably the one I'm most attached to: it only takes a few seconds of its huge, large and layered sound to bring me back to the summer of many years ago and make the memories flow, so out of all your Korn reactions this one was the one I enjoyed the most, it was so fun seeing your first listen ^^ Sadly, Untouchables didn't sell well when it came out: someone leaked the whole album before its release, and because in early 2000s piracy was not seen as a big deal, a lot of people simply downloaded it and didn't buy it. To make up for the HUGE amount of money Korn lost (I believe Untouchables' production was the most expensive out of all Korn albums at the time), the band released Take A Look In The Mirror only a year later, and imho this is its biggest issue. You'll have the chance to see (or hear lol) for yourself, but when listening to Take A Look In The Mirror I think it's very obvious that it was kinda rushed. With that said, it still has some pretty good tracks and...THE BAGPIPES ARE BACK! I'm looking forward to the next Korn reaction to see what you think about it and if you agree (or disagree) with me ^^

At the end that was just a Here To Stay remix. It’s a hidden track, so it’s meant to be a separate song from No One’s There. Anyway, I enjoyed your review of the album, just as I did for all the others. Since you pointed out stuff about Jonathan Davis’s vocals throughout the album, you might be interested to know that with this album, Jonathan started taking vocal lessons. He has joked that this album is when he became a “real singer”. I liked your review of No One’s There and how you described what the song was like towards the end because that’s pretty much the same way I look at it. It’s my favorite song on the album. I actually met Korn twice last year and I was just telling them how important their music is to me in my life, and I actually referenced No One’s There. I told them I have this story I’m making that is inspired by how I relate to this song. Jonathan wished me luck on it and they gave me some kind words, it was really cool. But yeah, I love that song, I love the whole album. Interestingly enough, Jonathan has said this album is his favorite Korn album.

My favorite album of theirs. I think they always embraced pop in their music. But it’s more noticeable in this album. If you’ve ever heard Gary Numan, this is the direction they went on this album. Fusing Metal with New Wave.

At the time, this album was definitely their most sonically expansive album, with much bigger sounding production and ambience. This album took the band like 2 years to make, and it's a very unique sounding album. I do think it often gets overlooked and underrated, but it is a very strong Korn album.

My fave Korn album. Hating has always been one of my fave tracks. It probably was my fave until Love and Meth. These days I’m into a lot of prog so that might help explain my fondness for this album. As well as it containing some of Jonathon’s best vocals.

Awesome. Was excited for this review. When this album came out I was 12. I had already seen Korn live and I was around for two album cycles, but Untouchables was really like the first one I felt like a “pro” going into. The album leaked months early and I was downloading the tracks with my friend on a 56K modem and the tracks all had working titles. Track one was “Make Believe”, titled as “Jesus is Mexican”. At first I thought it was fake, but then I knew it was Jon singing... Blame, I’m Hiding and No One’s There are so incredible. Even though it was a progression/change the album felt so normal in 2002; so it is so entertaining watching you listen to it fresh 20 years later. Just saw Korn last week in Amsterdam and I think it was the best time I’ve ever heard them play Here To Stay, it was mixed sooo much heavier and I’ve heard it live like 25+ times. So excited for the summer tour.

One of their best albums! I agree with the tracks having a floaty/space-like feel and atmosphere, it's very unique. I look forward to enjoying your reactions to the rest of their discography (I even think my least favorite album of theirs is awesome imo.) Also I think you should check out the band members solo and side projects! Jonathan Davis released a solo album called "Black Labyrinth" in 2018, it's an interesting listen. Guitarist Brian Welch (aka "Head") has a solo record titled "Save Me From Myself" and is in a band of his own called Love and Death. They released two albums, "Between Here and Lost" and "Perfectly Preserved". You should definitely give those albums a shot.

Yeah I love the atmosphere that they created on this album, they definitely achieved that floaty sound while keeping it dense and heavy at the same time (really cool how they did that). And thanks for suggesting their solo stuff too, I'll have to check it out when I finish up with Korn's albums!

Fav album, so creative and not afraid to experiment. This album keeps on giving because of all the layers you peel with each listen. It’s all down hill from here creatively, the next album is prob their heaviest and at least salvageable for me, but you can tell they start getting comfortable.
