I am an adult student who works full time and doing a part time bachelor of psychological sciences in australia. One of the things i thought would work for me was a strict timetable, what actually works is having a flexible timetable where i use sticknotes to move around the set number if hours i want to complete each week. I look forward to watching your progress and how things change as you go. Congrats and good luck 💗

I loved the modernism vs post-modernism video, it was very enlightening even for someone who has zero background in literature. So excited for the future of this channel!

I found this video after asking you on another video about your journey/experience as a distance learner and I appreciate this so much! I’m actually getting my MSc in Edinburgh too - specifically wanted an MSc in History not just because I’ve always wanted to but also because of the possibility of continuing further into a PhD. I don’t know many others who have a similar experience as I do being a distance learner so I truly, truly appreciate this video!! All the best to you on your PhD journey!

I just subscribed. I discovered this channel through your other channel. I'm really looking forward to following your new journey. I'm currently studying in order to establish a career as a library technician. Although it's totally different to what you're studying, I know what it's like to study something you're really passionate about - so, I'm thrilled for you! You mentioned studying Ancient Greek. Not that this matters, but I'd thought I'll mention that I'm Greek-Australian, although I haven't studied Ancient Greek. You also pointed out that you're thinking of uploading various types of videos. I'm interested in every single one of them. Bring it on!🌼

I'd love to know your take on Boris Johnson's use of classics.. last week in the UN he went from Kermit the Frog to ancient Greek in a heartbeat, which seems a good way to be approachable but also please the Oxbridge crowd...

I am happy to have found your channel. It seems that we are on a very similar path. I will be staring a PhD in Classics and Ancient History in September after a four year break from academia. My focus will be on Latin literature as well. I am quite excited but also wonder what it will be like to get back into being a student. I hope I still have what it takes to succeed. Your advice will definitely be useful!

Congrats! I'd love to hear about the funding side. I'd love to do a PHD in Business/Economics but would have to do it part time distance like yourself so I can continue working full time (gotta pay the bills!). So it would be so interesting to hear that side of it!

Same! I'm currently applying for a PhD in Accounting History and there are absolutely no paid PhD for that, so I'll have to do it part time as well.

@@peerreviewed that's awesome! Good luck! That sounds really interesting! (I qualified as an accountant as my first further education then fell into economics). I hope the application process goes well! I'm a few years off a PhD yet due to home life changes but can't wait to apply soon!

I'm so glad you're doing this!! Well done for making your dream a reality :-) I did a Classics degree in the 80s (absolutely loved it) - and I tutor in Latin and Greek. Classics is just the best!! Good luck with your Greek. So much nicer to be able to read the texts in the original, as you know. Enjoy your PhD - I'm looking forward to catching up with your other videos.

Hi Cinzia, I see the Phd has started in earnest...super stoked for you. Did you get through all 3 books in the Wolf Haul? Still only half way through the third book but not reading to a deadline like you. On the academic front I just wanted to let you know that despite her M.E. my daughter (after a 6 yearly struggle) has been informed of her resulting grade for her English Language & Creative Writing degree (at Birmingham coincidentally). She was awarded a first...so proud. Knocks my similarly gained 2:1 into a cocked hat.

Your thesis topic sounds super interesting! I know it is a long way down the line but will you store it somewhere, where there is open access so we can read it? (in my experience a lot of institutions do have a repository where researchers put a copy of their work, but there's often an embargo on making it widely accessible because reasons).
@SelfHelpShelf
@SelfHelpShelf 2 жыл бұрын
No, it’s not allowed to be open access. It will be part of the University publishing library so it will be open to other students. If all goes well though, I’d like to use my topic and make it into a book. It wouldn’t be my exact thesis, but it would be related to it.

is your program free + stipend? Most phds programs here in the US (especially the ones that are in science since they get a lot of government funding) are free and students even get a small living stipend. is it like that in the UK? and is it common for people to do PhD while working full time ? here, the US, almost nobody does that unless they have kids because it is just too time consuming
@SelfHelpShelf
@SelfHelpShelf 2 жыл бұрын
No, that's not the system here in the UK unfortunately. You either get funded PhDs or you pay for them yourselves (or take out a loan, but that's only England and Wales I believe). If you're doing a PhD part-time here, and you're not funded, you have to work full-time
