So this setup is good for offshore fishing, how about the bass fishing, do you think a Minnkota trolling motor should be installed at the tail?
@Jeremyfishingoregon5 жыл бұрын
Definitely, it's good for any fishing. Matter of fact you use a smaller cooler for the fish your targeting. I am not sure on the minnkota due to the battery size of the ski. I can troll from 1.5 mph to 7 mph just from the ski.

Jeremy, great video, nice setup! As you and I have recently discussed, I have 2ea 2009 VX Deluxe Ski's that I intend to put the ski Collars on after we emailed. I am still at the same stage as you on setup. I've made 2 different configurations for my coolers. One like yours with rod holders thru-bolted directly to the cooler and the other I made a PVC rack, bolted large cutting boards from Sams Club to the PVC, then mounted the rod holders to the cutting boards. This arrangement just gave me more options with the flat surface of the cutting board verses being limited by the way the PVC was configured. Downside is it's bulky and adds about 30 lbs to the ski (not the best arrangement but highly functional). I eventually plan to make an aluminum arch for the front and a cooler and fuel cell rack for the back. I've also followed a guy out of Virginia, screen name Jetski Brian. He has built several jetski fishing setups and really has an awesome fishing rig. I've also followed a young guy out of Hawaii, screen name "ibryce". I stumbled on his videos after we went on vacation to Oahu a couple of years ago, and I was impressed with his use of GoPros (multiple on his ski), but I was more impressed with his agility while fishing on the ski. He is superb at handling the ski while fighting a fish at the same time (he mostly trolls for YF Tuna, Mahi, and Wahoo). He made 13 episodes, then stopped posting about 4 or 5 years ago...I hope he is alright. He uses a technique with a Hawaiian Pole gaff that works well. I made two of them and hope to try them out this year. The fish I caught last year were easy enough to pull into the foot well and I didn't need a gaff. But once I get to my spots I fish from my boat, I WILL NEED A GAFF,:-). I also take a 48" long fish bag with ice in it on my ski. Around here, catching a longer fish like Wahoo, King Mackerel, Amberjack, Cobia, Tuna is common...these will sometimes not fit in my 60 Qt cooler. I noticed you sometimes venture offshore alone? Be careful, you are part of the food chain when you clear the pass:-). (I saw your video of your broken hull fitting...scary...good idea to have a backup bilge pump like you have now). That is why I bought two skis - so I can take a friend with me when I go:-). I also bought two used skis, so I can play with the configuration I want and not feel bad about drilling holes in a new $15K ski:-). Once I finalize the setup I want, I will probably buy two new Yamaha's, configure them the same, then enjoy. My next challenge is to figure out how best to carry extra fuel. On a calm day, I safely have an 80-100 mile range with my ski. I put in the water 1/2 mile from my house, run 7 miles to the pass and I'm in the Gulf of Mexico. I have hundreds of GPS spots to fish, but my better spots are 15-30 miles from the pass. On a calm day, I'm fine. But when the weather turns rough and you can't get or stay on plane, my fuel economy drops way down, and this limits access to better fishing spots. Jetski Brian in Virginia has the best extra fuel setup I've seen and I plan to ultimately closely mirror his configuration. I plan to order my ski collars today and want to get them on soon. How easy are the Collars to put on and take off after you installed the mounting hardware? With 2 skis, I don't have room between them on the trailer to leave them on and have both skis on the trailer at the same time. I'll either have to slide the ski collars on and off at the dock or get another trailer so my dual skis are front back verses typical side by side configuration. I'm new to the "KZbin Scene" but I really like the resource of people sharing ideas and how-to's:-). I think it is interesting the different challenges we jetski fisherman have to face. For example: You take very little ice with you since your water is cold. In the summer, I have to leave the dock with 40-60 lbs of ice on my ski. The Gulf sea surface temps in the summer approach 90 degrees. If I fight a fish more than a couple minutes, it comes up very warm. When he goes in the cooler, he starts melting ice. Normally after fishing, I re-arrange the fish in the cooler so they are on the bottom, put ice on top and drain a couple of gallons of water from the cooler before I start my ride home:-) Lastly, Thank you for proudly displaying your American Flag in your garage! I am retired military and love to see Patriotic Americans! Happy Fishing!
@Jeremyfishingoregon5 жыл бұрын
1st off thank you for your service. I always display my flag on my house and in my garage. I am proud to be an American and love this great country. I can't wait to see some of your videos. For the collars they are permanent mount. You can't take them on and off. Would be nice if you could there is about 12 bolt through screws that go into the gunnel. On my ski they add 5 3/4" to the side. Not much but not sure how much room you have to play with between the skis. My cooler is a 120qt and yes way cooler in Oregon a couple of bags of ice will get you by for local trip. The guys that go for tuna will fill the cooler with ice and drain the water as they go. That's 30 miles out to the fishing hole. I will be going out there this summer but first halibut and them 10 miles out. So come May keep a look out for some videos. I promise I'll get better fishing footage lol thanks again for watching and commenting... FISH ON!

I can see all your fish is going to get descaled on the trip by the ingenious way you got all the mounting bolts facing inwards in cooler..😳….I’d load the cooler with the max water you think you’d load it with fish and try reboarding ski from side because all that load in cooler is going to shift on the side you’re going to climb in also with a load in cooler you’re definitely not going to get on from rear ..don’t know how you’re going to get a grip to climb on…and if you do .. it’ll prob stand the ski up nose high and prob will want to roll to one side….remember it’s not a boat … be safe and try out scenarios loaded and reboarding in controlled conditions…
