Here's the final restoration and Lexus giveaway video! • I Fully Restored An Ab...
In my last video, I was given a free Lexus! The previous owner couldn't sell the car because it wouldn't start and I was able to get it to go with just a paper clip. The car had everyone dash light and about a dozen electrical gremlins so we got to work diagnosing them all. I find a few smoking guns and fix the car on the cheap so sit back and enjoy the show.

I owned a Lexus IS200 from new for 15 years, never went wrong apart from a radiator replacement, and I eventually gave it away to a friend in need, replacing it with a low mileage 2005 IS250 in the same colour as in this video. I've had this for exactly 6 years now, and it's also been extremely reliable, comfortable and still looks great cosmetically. The only issue I had was with the rear brake calipers, which needed to be replaced, I gather something of an issue with this model. What's extraordinary about the car is that it drives like a new car, with pretty much all of the bells and whistles (although no Bluetooth was fitted originally, I've just added a Bluetooth adaptor to the Aux in socket in the centre armrest). By way of contrast, I owned an 2006 MB B200, which was a very functional family car, but all the doors developed rust in the seams resulting in MB buying it back off me in order to scrap it at just 8 years old. I replaced the with a nearly new W204 C220, which has now done 110K miles, and has been largely reliable - but was surprised at recent MOT to find that the brake pipes needed to be replaced due to rust after just 8 years. The garage noted this is not uncommon, neither is it uncommon to find the rear subframe rusts through and needs replacement at considerable cost - mine is apparently OK at the moment. So, Camp Walosi, if you want my take on the relative quality of Japanese versus German cars, I think the above speaks for itself...

Very well done indeed. Love watching you work on everyday cars, bringing them back to life. Seeing that nonsense with the fusible links, all I can think is YIKES! I have had a bunch of Ford's from the 70s and 80s. Knowing their propensity for blowing fusible links and the fires that can result, I eliminated all of them at the relay, and installed an appropriate fuse panel that not only took care of the FLs but left open fuses for upgrades like stereos and fog lamps. Now I have a 90 Volvo 240 wagon, so dealing with Bosch is a different nightmare.

@@jamesreeve1729 They both are direct port injected sadly, but the 350 has a traditional injector that helps keep the valves clean. The intake is the biggest problem design wise on the 250 for having to pull it.

This thing has so much in common with my 2007 Solara Sport. Same steering wheel, stalks, shifter, and design elements. I bought it from a Kia lot near Dinseyland with 45,000 miles, no oil in the engine, and a bad wheel bearing. It was just so gorgeous I decided to give it a chance and have put 100,000 miles on it commuting between San Diego and LA pushing the stout 150 horsepower four cylinder to its limit on a constant basis. It was offered with a V6 but the four cylinder is perfectly matched to the chassis, and I love naturally aspirated engines and reving that thing out is a blast. And the chassis and steering are sweet. It's silver with shiny wheels and it looks like a fighter jet and still turns heads to this day. In 2017, I traded it for a fully loaded 2015 V6 Accord Coupe Honda Certified from a Honda dealership. There was an interior smell that I assumed to be leather cleaner, but the next day I saw a cigarette burn in the headliner and realized it was a smoker's car and the smell was imported tobacco. The sale came with a three day cooling off period and the dealership agreed to let me out of the deal and give me back my Toyota, but it all took a week to unfold in which time the Honda's 19" wheels gave me a beating and I was getting sick driving it from the harshness of the ride. My heart began pining for the Toyota and I worried I would never see it again, and when I finally got it back, I thought I might never let it go again, and I still feel that way. I've driven so many modern cars and felt overwhelmed by the technology and underwhelmed by the way they drive. I love the Solara's simple analog elegance, quality, and driving pleasure. I've had two Accords and two Civics and this is my first Toyota, but I think of myself as a Toyota guy now and have a whole list of them I intend to acquire. I'm working on accomplishing my dream and when I can finally affford nicer cars, I see myself keeping this one, possibly restoring it and swapping in a manual, and giving it a special place on display in my garage as the trophy car in which I won the rat race.

Hey Alex! My name is Alex as well and I’ve been watching your videos for a long time now and I want to congratulate you on your huge ambition to show us how much your really know on cars! I am 19 years old from Texas how I came across your videos was that anytime I would have trouble with my own family’s car I would help them out with the little bit of mechanical experience I’ve gained. I personally loved working on my 2006 Chevrolet Silverado until July 17,2020 my Truck got stolen☹️I made a police report I looked for it all over town! Got as much help as I could and I had NO LUCK☹️since this day my luck hasn’t been great. Cars are getting more expensive and making a choice over going college or working full time to get a car again hasn’t been easy considering that I have a single mother with 5 kids ☹️ i love watching you le videos!

Pretty typical for Toyota/Lexus not to have leaks or bad ball joints almost ever. They are definitely boring, but I had a corolla with 183,000 on it with zero leaks or issues mechanically, original battery and original (lifetime) trans fluid. Changed the plugs at 100K and that’s it. Got rid of it to get something more fun and it’s probably running fine somewhere. Current family member has a Toyota with no leaks after 130K and no issues. They are incredibly reliable, but just blah. If Mercedes and BMW would copy whatever Toyota is doing for gaskets it would be so much better.

@Dirtyboxer1
@Dirtyboxer1 2 жыл бұрын
@@mez6256 Compared to what Mercedes, Porsche, Audi and BMW are doing, Lexus IS boring. They make great cars up and down the lineup that are reliable and relatively inexpensive to maintain, especially for a luxury car, but Toyota achieves this reliability by being very conservative with their designs. If you want an exciting used car, buy an '07 BMW M5.

@@lesleymunro4964 Glad he's back doing stuff again but I really prefer the old format, which was a quick turn round. He's spinning the vehicle repair out over several shows. It's the format he's chosen but I prefer these guys who do the whole thing in a few shows back to back and then move on to a new vehicle. Edd's tip about cleaning wires that had oxidised is very useful. That's definitely a good tip if you do any work on vintage vehicles etc. It also might be useful perhaps with corroded copper water pipes to clean them without mechanical abrasion.
