This is what makes this video absolutely amazing! I came to this looking for a way to play this cool riff and I left knowing a major scale, a minor scale, what thirds are, the order of thirds, the basics of harmonization, practice tips and of course the riff itself :) ... Mind-blowing! Thank you so much, Mark! This is top quality!

This is why you're my favorite bass instructor on KZbin. I don't feel like you were trying to force "entertainment" down my throat with fancy edits and cheesy jokes. I really feel educated at the end of the lesson. But, not in a dry classroom sort of way. Just clear and concise delivery of knowledge to the watcher. This video is so much more than just a Metallica bass riff lesson. You taught me so much more than just "How to play this riff". Thank you so much for all of your videos.

Ok, ive been trying this, first and second finger holding 10th and 12th fret. This is hard trying not to have second finger touching G string. This may take a while. But thanks again. I really want to learn this great riff...

Nice little lesson. Being an instructor myself, I have to address this issue. As far as the picking technique, don’t limit the options like there is only two to choose from. That may imply limitations onto a beginner. I use my fingers, but I don’t use my thumb for this song. I use my first, second and third fingers. Another bassist friend of mine uses just his first and second fingers. I liked the rest of the lesson, it was very informative.

Because of the tempo, I often just play it with my index finger. So yeah, plenty of ways to play this part accurately.

hey mark, you have asked your fans to suggest music in the past , like iron maiden or deep purple. I know there is copyright stuff you have to deal with, that's why you don't do a complete song. you have done solfeggietto , old dead guy . I think I found something you could do and it would be great , really great. the 1963 doctor who theme. you could play the ( bass) on a looper . we all don't have loopers , I know I don't, and then play the whoo whee oou over the looper. you could use effects pedals to get something to sound the same , and we all don't have those pedals , but it would still be great. I have a zoom ms-60b pedal that might make some sound close but I don't care, just playing the correct notes would be fun. your a brit , so come on. everybody like my comment and get mark to do the doctor who. thanks.

About to get my first bass and have already decided I want to be a finger player, but... that sounded way more agressive, cooler and more metal with a pick..
@talkingbasslessons4 жыл бұрын
Why restrict yourself. Use both. I'm obviously a fingerstyle player most of the time but I spend a lot of time working on my pick technique. Don't limit yourself in technique or style. Learn music first and foremost.

TalkingBass - Online Bass Lessons oh for sure, and thanks for the response! The thing is I am coming from guitar and I don’t want my bass playing to just be guitar but down an octave. But you’re right no real need to limit myself!
