I loved that Thor didn't automatically get back into shape for the last battle. That was originally the plan. When he struck lightning, had both weapons, and armored up, he was supposed to be back to fit/sexy Thor. Chris Hemsworth fought to have him stay "fat Thor" because; just because you're having a good day, doesn't mean your depression is fixed. It doesn't work like that in real life, and it shouldn't for the movie either. It was a beautiful touch. I also loved how Thor was the first one to scream out his war cry when Cap sais "Avengers Assemble". Thor's ready. He's worthy, and he's ready to get the job done and kick some ass. And I absolutely loved that for his character.

It’s the first battle Thor ever fought where he knew for the first time that destiny wasn’t inherently on his side- and that he very well could die. He finds out there is no destiny and nearly destroys him with depression- and then he does something far harder than he ever has before. Stared into the abyss knowing there wasn’t a grand plan, picked up his weapons, overcame his depression, and decided to fight for the right reasons harder than ever before despite the gravity and consequences of his actions now being full force for him. Even in Ragnarök: “we aren’t meant to stop ragnarok, we’re supposed to cause it.” It was a crazy and ballsy plan that would cost his people and himself- and he reassured himself with “it must be destiny.” It’s a barely subtle character narrative for Thor, but I love it.

Personally, I think it would have been much better if Thor was the one who did the snap to bring everyone back instead of Hulk. Thor has lived with guilt for the past five years. Even before Thanos, Thor feels guilty for loosing his Father and Mother. Then Thanos kills another half of his civilization at the beginning of infinity war and kills his best friend too. Right before Thanos snaps his fingers, Thor almost kills him but Thanos is still able to use his infinity gauntlet which would have left Thanos feeling even more guilty. Thor has lost everything and it would be an amazing story arch if he was the one who brought everyone back. This could also lead into him getting his golden arm which he has in the comics. Also, this would leave Hulk open for a rematch with Thanos. Last time Thanos and Hulk fought, Thanos beat Hulk but now that Bruce has combined Hulks strength with his mind he may have been able to overpower Thanos this time. If Thor was the one who used the gauntlet it would have been an amazing story arch for him and would have left the door open for a rematch of Thanos vs Hulk.

I don't know if even marvel can top this, the best thing about the MCU was it felt at the same time made up as it went along and planned out meticulously from the first movie. It felt like they were always planting seeds but also like "Fuck it, let's make a movie about a talking raccoon and a tree that only says 3 words!" I think that if anyone tries to replicate Marvel's success, they will end up(and have ended up) focusing too much on the endgame and failing before they get there.

I think Cap's arc is the opposite to Iron man's. Tony was all about change. He changed in every movie he was in, and tried to change the world around him with it. Steve's arc was all about remaining the same. He remained the same in every movie while the world around him kept changing. It was about the temptation to compromise his values in different ways, and Cap's journey towards learning to resist and gaining the strength to resist. Not a typical arc. But in the end, Steve made the play Tony had always wanted him to... and Tony made the play Steve always wanted him to...

I disagree they both changed, but in opposites. Tony Stark starts of as a narcissist, he learns to do well and at the time of Avengers he learns to sacrifice, but he feels responsible. The PTSD, creating Ultron and eventually signing for the sokovia accord. At this point he is less selfish, but still very arrogant. He clashes with Cap in this film cause cap is on the half of his journey too. Cap starts of as selfless, the opposite of Tony. He starts the journey of sacrificing himself. He later learns to doubt, doubt shield, doubt the government, be more indepent and become more selfish with his choices in Civil War. The clash happens and then there is phase 3. Iron Man learns to care even more, become more responsible (teaching spidey). Cap is still there to protect the earth, but his own way, more of an individual. Then endgame happens. Where Tony sacrifices himself. He started of as an egotistical character and ended up altruistic. Cap started of as a selfless hero, but ends his story with a selfish choice going back to peggy and growing old. Tony and Steve start at opposite sides, but also end where the other started.

I love the recognition of the stages of grief, but I also saw it clearly in one scene. The moment after they get the stones, but before they snap - they're on the dock, and each one reps the 5 stages of grief having lost their sixth member: 1. Thor - denial "you're acting like she's gone, we have the stones to bring her back!" 2. Prof Hulk - anger *throws the bench* 3. Hawkeye - bargaining "you go talk to him!" (Red Skull) 4. Cap - depression *tears* 5. Ironman - acceptance "do we know if she had family?" LOVE that scene! I know peeps are all "Where's Nat's funeral?" and I get that, but I also love this tribute to her membership in the team, that she and her death impacts the team in a different way for each person.

It also showed just how much growth and how much Thor's matured from being that arrogant and war loving version of himself in the beginning cause to me Cap deliberately threw everyone off in Age of Ultron by pretending to not be able to lift Mjolnir cause he didn't wanna hurt Thor's pride and Thor was worried for a moment cause he still wasn't totally changed from Odin casting him off yet at that time Thor truly changed around the time of Ragnarok to me it goes way deeper

More specifically he needed his arc with Bucky to realize he has weaknesses and blind spots in his judgment and that he still has a reason to care and genuinely live in the world today. @@chasewhitehead4525 I get where you're coming from but you need to remember why Dr.Erskine even chose him for the experiment Cap showed no promise in any of the physical tests they put him through while someone like Gilmore Hodge passed all the tests when Colonel Phillips threw the dummy grenade while they were training all the soldiers who were physically superior to Cap ran away but it was Cap who was ready to give his own life to save everyone else right there Cap's honorable heart and his compassion is what makes him as great as he is it's the same reason why Cap dropped his shield after Tony tried to one up him one last time in Civil War his shield and enhanced physique isn't what he's defined by it's like what Tony told Spidey that "If you're nothing without the suit than you shouldn't have it" the only flaws Cap has is his soft spot for Bucky and the a bit of trust issues he had between Winter Soldier and Civil War although that was still justified but all in all Cap never needed to change his entire personality while Tony and Thor were completely different characters early on Tony even when he realized his weapons manufacturing business was doing more harm than good he still maintained his ego stroking by frequently showboating and his ridiculous arrogance when he leaked his home address to the Mandarin which could've ended badly for both him and Pepper and Thor was pretty much just like Hela early on he wasn't fighting for Asgard or the 9 realms he just wanted to satisfy himself and he maintained that arrogance when he was belittling Cap and Tony by calling them Tiny and Petty in the first Avengers film and there's a reason why Thor reacted differently to both times Cap had his hands on Mjolnir in Age of Ultron he looked worried and was a little embarrassed in Endgame he looked like a proud brother and even said "I knew it" and Cap caring about Thor's feelings and not completely lifting Mjolnir again really shows his honorable heart and compassion cause he never completely changed and he just kept on proving why he's worthy

I LOVE that moment, because for me it perfectly captures why Steve Rogers is special. He's not the strongest, or fastest, or most powerful hero.... not even close, but that doesn't matter. Even when he was a scrawny little kid before the serum, Steve Rogers NEVER stayed down. He'll always keep fighting. I loved the part with Nebula playing with Tony and her reaction when he told her she'd won. We learn over the movies that Thanos was never supportive of her, never praised her the way he did Gamora, he would even punish her with upgrades when she failed and where she did succeed their was always criticism on how she could have done better. When she won the game, Tony tells her and congratulates her straight away. Doesn't belittle her, doesn't criticize her, just tells her she beat him fair and square and shakes her hand and offers to play again. This is shocking to Nebula, she's never been treated like this before and you get all this just from her flinch when hearing she'd won

I am 16 years old, and the MCU started when i was 4, so the MCU was pretty much part of me my whole life, it is my childhood. So when I walked into Endgame, it didn't just feel like the end to a whole saga, but an end to my childhood. Seeing Tony die, made me feel like a part of me died because he was with me my whole life, and when Endgame finished, I felt like that is when my whole childhood was over. For me, there will never be anything as amazing as the MCU and I will forever be grateful that I was there to experience it... I love it 3000

He's been none stop working towards stopping Thanos even after his failure. That said; everyone keeps saying that he discovered time travel, when it was really the Pyms that discovered it. Back then this was frowned upon and I was told I needed to 'grow up'. The thing I still lack with DC and it's characters is the connection, I just don't feel attached and I could care less if they die or recast. Maybe it's because they don't have as many movies, or maybe it's because Marvel just did a better job fleshing out these characters/stories. But the connection and attachment with MANY MCU characters (mainly Tony) just isn't comparable to anything DC has even come close to. By Endgame and even long before you're just so invested in these people and their stories. There's isn't a single franchise to come close to doing that for me. And there's a lot you can nitpick about the MCU, a lot of plot holes and formulaic stories. But man the movie going experience they create with these movies is something I don't think I'll ever come by again, watching Endgame with a crowd was probably some of the most enjoyable 3 hours I've experienced, hundreds of fans all cheering and enjoying it just as much as you are. This is what saddens me about the DCEU, I don't think they're even close giving that kind of experience to people. But maybe one day!

correction: it's not "you are still a hero". it's "you can still be a hero". heroism is an action. thor deciding to leave his nest, and help out despite being fat and depressed is still heroic. he had to DO something. being fit, being well-built isn't what someone naturally is. it's a consequence of living an active lifestyle, of exercise and effort. being worthy, and being heroic is the same thing. it's not "because you're good enough just the way you are" it's because you act worthy despite the way you are.

Regarding the point on how sci-fi everything it is and being that emotionally invested. Looking back, when Marvel had you ok watching an entire movie with a CGI talking raccoon and a talking tree that says 3 words and you cared, it was over then. By the time you reach Endgame you've subconsciously accepted everything that's happening and everyone without even questioning it. That's probably the biggest feat of this entire saga to me personally. The progression from Iron Man to Endgame makes no sense, yet, it does at the same time.

Josh Hunt I wouldn’t really classify anything in the MCU as sci-fi. They make no attempt to explain their tech aside from sticking the word “quantum” or “jump” onto things. Tony saying that he wants to find the eigenvalues of an inverted Möbius strip with a spectral decomposition isn’t really scientifically coherent at all, nor is creating a timespace GPS. They feel more like Star Wars to me - fantasy but sometimes in space or with magic.

My grandpa got us started watching these when Iron Man came out on DVD and we went to see every movie in theater with him after. He passed away recently but one thing he was able to do was see Endgame before his declined and my grandma said the exact words Pepper said to Tony before he went. They do have the translation implant but it needs more prominent explanation in any film showing complex differing species. Seeing as we cannot even communicate with other simple species here yet.

This was sooooooooooooo gooood! It has been so fun to see you all discussing all these movies. And now we ended up at the Biggest Highest Grossing movie in theatres of ALL FRICKING TIME! So fun to see Matt's journey too, I'm not a superhero / Sci fi fan myself but there is so much humanity and emotional connection in this MCU it really made me fall in love with this universe. I understand why so many people love this and why this is the highest grossing movie of all time

Chris Hemsworth did amazing job in this movie. Just that look in his eyes, everytime I see him and his look I just wanna cry so much. I can see how he thinks he failed. He failed Avengers, his friends, he failed world when he didnt go for the head. He failed his family and himself. He is a God, he should be strongest and you know. In Infinity War, only he was possibly able to kill Thanos, the others didnt stand a chance. Thats why he failed. Im also really happy that creators gave Nat and Clint such a great moment together. They could simply do that with Steve or Bruce, because her relationship with them was growing in whole series, but they gave this moment to Nat and Clint and im so happy they did it that way, because they were like best friend before all of this and I absolutely love their friendship.
