We've been on a Star Wars kick the past few weeks, so we're having Matt watch the Mandalorian for the first time. Star Wars has several superficial similitude with this film A Princess? Leia. A General? Kenobi, but that character is more Solo. Also, C-3PO and R2-D2 have mannerism taken from these "two greedy peasants". In the end, Samurai are Japanese medieval knights. And yes, both follow a code.

In most of Europe you had to be of aristocratic birth to become a knight, but in Britain anyone who could afford the training, equipment, and accepted the code of chivalry could become a knight. I'm not too familiar with Japanese history, but I believe the Samurai was more like a caste system that you had to be born in to, and they had no problem killing peasants. I'm open to being corrected.

It’s possible that she could of came from the mandalorian group deathwatch and why she made her helmet like that. Love these videos! You talked about the village-training plot that you enjoyed, I just thought I’d let you know (in case you didn’t) was pioneered in Seven Samurai, which is why that plot device is sometimes called “Seven Samuraing it”. It’s a fantastic film and arguable does this plot the best, and is worth a watch as it’s the reason films like The Magnificent Seven as well as dozens of others exist.

I just think he's not into high fantasy stuff like at all, some people are kinda like that. They hear a bunch of made up words and exposition dumps and immediately check out instead of enjoying the ride and the escape from reality, like they want something grounded in actuality to latch onto and can't get past the “unreality" of it all.

To be fair, I wasn't convinced by the first episode either... there just wasn't enough going on to justify starting there... there was a strong lack of interesting character development and the plot felt more like a bunch of video game RPG quests, with the only real hooks been the darker / grounded tone and the introduction of the mysterious "Baby Yoda". It took me until episode 3 to get invested, as well.
