Except other than the "tithing" which was far too much to begin with and I doubt he even gave it to the church or informed the church he received it from her, nothing she commented on had to do with said religion. Mormons do not arrange marriages. It sounds more like the FLDS, the Polygamist Kingston family, or some other polygamist cult. Her parents are just psycho. -from an ex-Mormon

Religion is basically a legal, encouraged cult. And fully capable of the kind of abuse the bad cults are. Of course, many enjoy it in a wholesome and passive way. The bad apples who take it to the extreme just spoil the bunch. My best friend is in a religious family and they are very wholesome, while my catholic in-laws can be strict, judgemental and cruel. My mother in law has MD and she is constantly in fear of going to hell when she dies her inevitably early death. She's a kind and gentle woman, but because she smokes weed and has "mean thoughts" she thinks she is bound to be punished for eternity. Its so sad.
@25Erix

@@CasualVFlowerEnjoyer Bit unfair to lump it all into one category. Even atheism is basically a religion in and of itself since it does take faith to say there's no greater power. People can disagree on that but the lack of faith takes faith in order to exist. Just as religious people have faith in a higher power, atheists have faith there isn't. They just don't call it that. Cults are about control. Reasonable religion isn't. I'll say I'm Christian but am more of a spiritual one these days. Your MIL sounds like she needs a gentle reminder that if she accepted Christ, that's all it takes to gain a place in heaven. Nothing short of blasphemy is going to change that. At the same time, I can understand that fear. A closer look into the Gospels should ease her fears hopefully. God knows all too well how imperfect we are. He didn't have to come down to our level to know that but he did anyway.

He currently posted several photos of himself asking if he was attractive and is flirting/complimenting other girls on reddit. Current one is trying to convince a girl not to get plastic surgery and in the post he compliments her hair, breasts, youth, and more. I’m a wife of 26 years, since we were older teens. The first comment was spot on. People won’t want to hear that maybe, but it’s true. Compliments are nice, needing the validation from the opposite sex while in a commited relationship is NOT. There is a difference, albeit nuanced. The difference is that you enjoy the compliment itself-not the other man who says it. That is the distinction. Example: I was out shopping and I’m very much a “ladylike pretty long dress/makeup/long curls/jewelry/perfume/high heels” sort of woman. I just really enjoy looking feminine and put together. It’s not a usual thing around here, if I’m being honest. Women usually wear jeans and shirts and dress more casually/comfortably (nothing wrong with that!). I had a man approach me in the store and he smiled broadly and said “I just want to tell you that you look very beautiful today and that’s a nice dress.” I thanked him a bit warily for the comment, but hid my worry that this was going somewhere wrong. It’s nice to be told that, as long as that’s all that is meant by it and it’s not a “hitting on me” thing. I love my husband very much. He continued “I always like to give someone lovely a compliment-because it reminds me to go home and tell my own lovely wife something nice too, “like you look beautiful today honey!” I breathed a sigh of relief and smiled warmly. I told him that he was a very good husband if he did that for her and to keep up the good work. We parted ways smiling and happy-both of us. I appreciated the compliment, but only for the compliment’s sake. I did not welcome any male attention beyond someone just being nice/kind-which he was, so that was great. And I loved what he said about his wife, that was adorable. In the above story, it sounds as though the girlfriend wanted to respond to the male attention that validated her attractiveness-not just to the compliment itself as a nice gesture from a new potential friend. She wants to free herself up a bit from the relationship and be less responsible for her partner and his needs or feelings. This is simply something that you cannot do in a marriage. Your mate will need you in so many ways. In sickness and in health. You don’t get a day off from thinking of them or what they need. The fact is that eventually children grow up. Parents pass away. Friends sometimes leave or move on in life. People die suddenly. Everyone else just sort of falls away here and there for the most part. The only one you can depend on other than yourself is a good faithful partner. Your kids will have their own life to lead-and they don’t always stick close by. If you can’t depend on each other-you are basically alone. In this case-she wants that. There’s more to it than she’s saying. He’s being trickle truthed even if it wasn’t due to cheating. She’s told him what he needs to know. Her real desires have been stated, sure, but there’s probably more to them than she’s letting on. Things that he wouldn’t like to hear, and she’s hanging on to her backup plan/sure bet guy just in case other plans don’t pan out as well for her. But more freedom is her goal, and for more reasons than she likely stated.

@alexisgrunden1556
@alexisgrunden1556 11 ай бұрын
In cults like those, having a child (but especially a _daughter!_ ) disobey the man as the patriarch of the family and ruler of the roost is a huge shame for him. That she not only disobeyed him, but completely noped out of the country, WHILE destroying a marriage contract (a 53yr old man? How much was he paying her parents, I wonder? If he actually was, then they now have to refund him every penny, plus possible penalties) would absolutely shatter his social standing in the community. His wife cheated on him, not-actually-his daughter ran away, and now he's a social pariah, viewed as a pathetic half-man who can't even control his women. As for her egg-donor, she was likely treating OP2 like crap as a form of penance to her husband; _'See? I hate the product of my disloyalty! That means I'm making it up to you!'_ Probably not consciously, but in her subconscious? Absolutely. And her not-dad never cared to stop the abuse because it was easier to punish a child for the audacious crime of having been born than to punish a grown woman who can fight back, and it made him feel good that the product of his wife's infidelity was being punished for daring to exist and remind him of his wife's sins.

OP’s gf in the first story very much sounds like she is projecting her own crap on him to make him feel like he’s at fault for her choices. She wants to be single great, nothing wrong with that but blaming her decisions on his “negative energy” making him fully move out is insane. A couple should be able to rely on the other but you also need to keep independence but having him move out is not going to solve that and keep the relationship. That relationship with break up just from the natural consequences of making such an extreme decision to fix a small problem. You work through those issues, speak to each other and learn to give each other space. You don’t separate from each other the second anything seems like it might be a bad thing when in reality this is about one of the most common and tiny issues a relationship needs to survive. I feel bad for op because he very well might have been being more negative and having issues surrounding his career. That is a lot knowing you could be deployed at any point and knowing you have to spend months away at a time. However, a good partner helps you work through that not ignore you and kick you out. If this is how she manages small issues I fear the second anything big happens he will be back on here wanting to know what “he” did wrong. I truly hope he wakes up soon to the huge issues this relationship has. Really sad he can’t see what’s going on.

From the tone of OP’s update I thought I’d be one of those Negative Nancy’s that try to find fault with literally anything but I’m relieved the majority of people also found it messed up how all the blame got dumped on the OP. The comments really nailed down just how wrong the gf’s actions were and how false OP’s positive update is, like, several of the issues the gf had were more of a ‘her’ problem and there was no need to kick OP out for most of the other problems. His replies were a lot more reasonable and mature and yeah, Reddit can kick rocks for having no other solution other than condemn and break up because from the sound of it his relationship issue was just a bump on the road.

Additionally, a lot of context was missing that would’ve explained why the gf made such drastic choices, like how she had a patient die on her. That’s something that would debilitate most people.

I didn’t trust the first OP to give the best info after the first post described himself as a “perfect boyfriend” like that. Something about describing yourself as not just great or good, but perfect, makes me feel like it’s a one sided perspective that really isn’t considering a lot of why the other person feels how they do. That whole story was a disaster tbh.

Something is seriously wrong if you never had an argument/fight. Sounds like she realized that you smothered her, too much togetherness. Being in love doesn't mean you can't be independent and also mean you must communicate feelings/issues. 2. You're over 18 year old and parents can't force you to marry anyone. Parents can't sue you for doing what they were supposed to do. Even if you still lived in the same town there is nothing they could LEGALLY do to you. Maybe your mother could come in live with you and be free.

S1- I think the gf is straddling the line of single life and relationship. She has Op that’s her commitment, responsibility,& familiarity. W/o OP she has ME time, coming to an empty apartment, the excitement of meeting new ppl. In this case, he was going through mental issues and she probably saw what her future was going to be. Maybe she wanted to distance herself so he could have space or she wants them to be separate so they can decide if being together or breaking up is the solution. They both need CC bc they seem to not communicate well and be there for each other through tough times.

30:30 That 'Abade' should be pronounced more like "aw biddy" because that's a clear reference to Porky Pig closing the cartoon and stuttering over his "line" (likely _"I bid_ you adieu") and instead saying "That's all folks." That's silly her dad was portrayed as apparently Wile E. Coyote - I would've probably gone with Yosemite Sam (considering his impotent raging) though I guess his plan for OP falling through is why she went with Wile E. Anyway, I'm rooting for OP, and hope only the best for her.

South Africa story: I feel like this story is fake. I won’t mention South Africa as the choice of country to flee to, since maybe that’s possible, but it’s the fact someone who’s lived in Utah refers to math as “maths”. No US citizen refers to the school subject in the plural. That’s not done here. ETA: still not buying it. Even with British parents, you’re still surrounded by literally everyone else who refers to math singularly. First gen kids of immigrants typically have American style accents too.

Based on the mentions of being in a ward, paying tithing, and being in Utah I'm going to assume that the last OP's family are members of the Church of Jesus of Latter Day Saints. If this is true... I am so, so, sorry OP that your family did this to you, and your ward didn’t support you. I mean, Im sorry either way because this is horrible, but specifically because I'm also a member, I'm extra sorry. If I were in her ward amd witnessing what was happenjng I would have gone to OP and asked her if she wanted help getting away. I may not have been able to do much besides letting her stay in my home while she figured out how to truly get away, but even that is better than what others did. I'd also be reporting everything I could to every appropriate channel that could help remedy the situation. No one, regardless of age, gender, race, authority, or religion has the right to put others through that, nor do they deserve to be put through that. I wish I could give a hug to OP and every other person who has ever gone through something like this. It's horrible.
